You need to watch the HBO mini-series titled "House of Saddam", based on the factual progression of his life. Americans are so misinformed about the true patriotism & family structure involved in his life. Sure, the culture is a bit different, but no more less romantic than the american idea of "The Godfather". Saddam was wise and honorable in his own way, and if you actually see how the drama played out in his own family (even his mother had influence over him), you'd see that the lore is bunk.
