After checking ektara on the wikipedia I'm convinced it is this one string instrument.
That is an interesting idea to combine playing an instrument while being able to hold both hands up.
Practically all other kinds of instruments (except simplest percussions) would require the use of both hands or even keeping the hands down, which would defy the Mudra of Lalit.
That way You can sing Kiirtana, dance Lalit and still play an instrument as well.

I would at first think its an ektara or some kind of instrument, but when looking more closely I can't really make it out.
