I'd say...the clash and the ramones were two of the bands that got me into punk when i was about 13, or 14. Im 20 now, and still love those bands. I dont want this to be a rant or off topic, but the Ramones, and The Clash were truly punk. They wernt afraid to go outside of the "punk box" and do what they wanted to do. Isn't that the idea behind punk, do what you want and how you think it should be done? Oh well. Sucks i was too old to see either band :/ Much Respect. Thank you guys.
saw this gig on tv when i was 16 (in the Year 2000) i still remember the feeling and the cold shower on my back, this man took me into punkrock long!!Thanks to Joe Strummer for playing great music, he influenced not only just one generation, he influenced more than you expect
Watching Joe going down the stage like this to shake hands... I have a strange and sad feeling... Like if Joe said "Goodbye" I will not be there in a while. December 22nd, 2002 was one of the sickest day in my life when I heard his death. Things will not be the same anymore. We miss you Joe !
@snoochtoelnooch I guess by that standard, I'm luckier. I passed him and the rest of the band many, many shots of Tequillia when the Mescaleros did a show about 5 years ago in Chicago. :)~
@jeffer700 Sorry that my memory doesn't jibe with your need for accuracy. Forgive an old punk. But I did do that very thing, Been through much in my lfe since, well, since about 1998 and some years bleed one into the next. However, I did go looking through the memorabilia and it was October 15th 2001 with my friend Rob Perry. SO at this point, I say to you, as any good old school punk would. Kiss my ass. 1.2.
@TheReverendmoonshine really? his daddy was a simple civil service worker. nothing too exciting. you want to talk shit on joe's background? read up on him. he was living in squats when his band was in the charts. fuck you.
@joeycadre@joeycadre not my fault the Clash were overrated, middle class tosspots is it? I dont have to read up on it numpty,I saw them in 78,they were ok I suppose but nowt special............................................
Dudes, chill on the crowd. Who cares? Would any of you made a difference?
Personally I like to see the band play and sing, and not the people around me. I've loved Joe Strummer forever and have a giant bucket which holds almost eight years of tears. What a real person!
Dear God, please give us back Joe Strummer and Bob Marley. You can take the Jonas Brothers and Justin Bieber instead. (oh yeah and that kid who got beat out by Rage Against the Machine last Christmas)
The BNP is for bringing in non-Whites to rape your White women and destroy your cities, just like every other party! If Brits don't stop supporting nonsense like the BNP your country will be a Muslim and non-White shithole with Whites dead or enslaved. Forget the BNP, support the Insurgent and save the White race!
why is everyone writing bad comments about the germans? they look like they are enjoying it to me anyway. most europeans are more laid back than irish or british people at events like this. its just the way they are.
I like it how you all seem to love Joe and his music but you seem to go against his way of life and hate germans because of the way they were with this song.
How does it feel to contradict yourselves?
Just sit back, enjoy the music and leave your hate outside!
so touching... His relationship with fans and public was just incredible, he always put all himself in every song in spite of a public not so involved... The first time I watched this I cryied... I can't belive He's dead... And I've never seen him...
He kind of went his own way after the Clash. He never seemed to be a pushy sort of guy. That he was extinguished at a relatively youngish age, esp when he was still drilling it, is a mixture of hope and the inevitable.
The punk scene, as I see it nowadays, kind holds the clash to such sanctity (which is entirely understandable, I do too) that people go "well we'll never be as good as the clash" and they settle with mediocrity.
It's happening a lot, but there really needs to be a swing in mindset. We can all understand that we'll never be the clash, because only the clash will ever be good at being the clash.
I'm sure Joe would want more people to be better at being - and playing - themselves.
