The secretary is right about education discipline. There is a definite shortfall in this area of the U.S. education system. President Obama challenging the students to overcome their own economic and social demographic situations and put forth more focus on learning is okay in itself, but looking at the bigger picture, we see these same students facing classroom/school controls and management issues that choke and stifle the entire learning process.

These are the students who need a pep talk from the president to work hard and to view education as a way out. The Secretary of Education was correct about how our student's success in the classroom is going to help the economy and help us compete in the global world. People love to bash public education, but failed to realize the necessity of it and the outstanding results it produces.

The secretary is right about education discipline. There is a definite shortfall in this area of the U.S. education system. President Obama challenging the students to overcome their own economic and social demographic situations and put forth more focus on learning is okay in itself, but looking at the bigger picture, we see these same students facing classroom/school controls and management issues that choke and stifle the entire learning process.

The Secretary of Education was correct about how our student's success in the classroom is going to help the economy and help us compete in the global world. I'm not going to lie, the way that the American public has been acting lately makes it hard for me to not succom to the "Americans are idiots" line of thought. Now I know Americans are not idiots, but sadly those who are keep getting the attention. Saying that universal health care is a Nazi regime and that the President speeking to students about being accountable and staying in school was actually him trying to push his political beliefs is a bunch of malarchy. Its frustrating to see this.

I'm afraid that they are right, about the Socialist ideology being promoted. Although, Socialism isn't that bad, as long as it doesn't interupt the already interupted Democratic proceedings of the U.S. Republic. Does seem that he was only there to encourge children to perform above and beyond expectations, to succeed. According to what I heard about the speech. I do hope that this wasn't his attempt to indoctrinate children though, Hitler did the same.

What's so wrong with asking kids to stay in school? Opposing this is just being conservative for the hell of it. Ironic, is it not, that parents take their kids out of school while the president is telling them to stay in school and get an education, because they claim they can just do it themselves.

Reagan and Bush met with opposition when they made speeches to junior high students. Whenever a politician makes a speech, the speech will always be viewed as advancing some political agenda.
After the speech, the fed govt submitted lesson plans for schools: Teachers are to turn Obama's speech into a "teachable moment," by reading to kids K-6th grades books about Obama and for grades 7-12, classroom walls are to have Obama quotes in large print! That's just the beginning.

You need to ask Obama that question. He's the one who called for a "civilian national security force" that's comparable to our military. The Serve America Act combines civilian & military service. The NCCC (18-24)& its companion the GIVE Act (grade school on up) focus on your kids.
The Exec. Orders (by Bush) would give Obama dictatorial powers.
Check out the govt websites & read these for yourself.

I believe that the President was doing a great deed by just trying to tell us kids to do good in school. Im a seventeen yr old senior in high school and I was really motivated by it and I believe that if President Bush would hae done it there would have been no disagreements, would there? But we all know why theres no need to even say why people are so ignorant

Obama's speech was very positive and emphesize personal responsibility, hard work and staying in school. Things Republicans claim to be for. it is funny to hear people discuss an issue that is not new. Obama is no different than any other president. He is doing what he thinks is right for the country. He seems to be a little less self concerned than Bush. Which I think is good but in the end he is a man. A fallible entity like all of us. He will do good, and he will make mistakes. Give him the respect you want as an individual regardless of race and your political preferences. These things are distractions from the truth.

It's called following the supreme law of the land and enforcing it like we the people are supposed to. The Government used 9/11 as an excuse to start this insane expansion of power. Bush and Obama are equally responsible for our current state. The feds can intercept a plane in minutes from anywhere. All 125 flights that veered off course in 2000 were safely recovered. We're supposed to believe the feds couldn't get to those planes in the span of an entire hour? Bush let them hit.
