Does this woman donkey even understand that if she doesn't flop a king or queen her hand is total trash? Once again Hellmuth gets his money in way good with a dominating hand, but she just gets extremely lucky on the flop. If she this woman donkey doesn't get lucky he would have 12 World Championships right now instead of 11.
Indeed, her call was a good one. First of all, I NEVER throw away any draw to a Royal before the flop, unless the betting is completely out of hand. Second, Her KQ, suited is a fine hand to play in the face of a moderate raise. Maybe he would be justified in spouting off if she had raised, but all she did was call....Then the flop gives her top pair! Whats she supposed to do then? For the people hating on Beth Shak can suck hellmuth's nuts. in my opinion, she probably read with AJ, because phil pumped it with 80k. also shak was big blind and its nothing to be regreted to call and see the flop (btw shes chip lead). the flop was 6 Q 10 which has straight draws and with AJ read on Phil made Shak all in. for the last reason phil made a bad call
This is why it's not always a good thing to know everything about Poker.. sometimes you can overanalyze your opponent. Just because she doesn't do things the way Doyle Brunson says to doesn't mean she's always gonna lose. That's poker :)

The worst play about this hand is Phil raisin 25% of his stak pre plyn only 10bbs. 6 handed like it was this is a basic shuv or marginal muck . Her shuv on the flop was dumb also though as was her call pre, i mean the only hands Phil is repping here with his stak size is AA or KK, it was all a bit odd.
I read a book called SECRET ADVANTAGES OF A POKER PRO and it has alot of great information on what you have to do to become a great player! it was definitly worth five bucks on amazon and barnes n noble. you can download it in seconds.
Its the worst call for your tournement life ever, especially as its a rainbow flop and she over bets like 2.5x the pot. At best phils a 50/50 if she open ended with KJ

She clearly misplayed her hand as she is getting the same value by checking here as by shoving (all hands Phil would call her shove with he will also shove himself if it's checked to him), but by shoving she denies him any opportunity to bluff. The fact that she won the hand does not justify her play, she was simply fortunate that Phil held a worse yet decent enough hand to call.

Phil's not totally wrong here. Shak had only 400k left in his stack, so she called a quarter of her stack preflop. The flop was QT6, so Phil's only beat against a Qx hand, since JJ-AA would've reraised him preflop. He's thinking Shak can't call 1/4th of her stack preflop without an ace, so the only hand she could have is AQ, and she'd reraise with that preflop. Basically the only hand that beats him is KQs (which is unlikely) so naturally Phil's thinking "ok, my tens are good here".
@laiseri You're misreading the overlay. Shak's all-in bet is 301k because that's Phil's remaining stack, not Shak's. Look at her chip stack compared to Phil's, she has tons of chips. She played the hand absolutely fine.
I love Hellmuth, but here is how he should have read her hand. He raised from under the gun, representing a big hand...AK or a big pocket pair. When she called preflop he should have put her on the same kind of hand. Then on the flop when she shoved, if he had really thought about her hand, he should have put her on either AQ, pocket As, pocket Ks, or pocket Qs. He couldn't beat anything with a ten. Misstep for Phil.

The worst play about this hand is Phil raisin 25% of his stak pre plyn only 10bbs. 6 handed like it was this is a basic shuv or marginal muck . Her shuv on the flop was dumb also though as was her call pre, i mean the only hands Phil is repping here with his stak size is AA or KK, it was all a bit odd.

@jasminetomcat Actially, it isn't, since with this line, Beth is not representing any hand that AT is not ahead of. She clearly misplayed her hand as she is getting the same value by checking here as by shoving (all hands Phil would call her shove with he will also shove himself if it's checked to him), but by shoving she denies him any opportunity to bluff. The fact that she won the hand does not justify her play, she was simply fortunate that Phil held a worse yet decent enough hand to call.

@TomMolivan yeah, i see your point - very concise analysis - i just didn't like the call all in with mid pair... then i realized he's super short, so i guess he has to commit if he gets any decent piece of the flop. That said, shouldn't he shove pre-flop, being that short? probably same result, as shak will prob call for 10 bb anyway, but what do you think about that aspect of the hand? i'm always interested to learn from more seasoned players - cheers

I think about everything you said is 100% right.
A10s was shove or fold (with 10BB), not a standard raise.
Donkshoving the flop with a strong holding here was ridiculous.
His call was justified for the reasons that you already mentioned.
What do YOU think of the KQs call by Beth though, against a shortstacked Hellmuth that raises
that size instead of shoving. I would probably be suspicious the moment he announces raise with that stack and give him credit for AA/KK

@TomMolivan Really... i mean really... misplayed... pre flop no mistake. on the flop. if he had a hand he calls when she shove. he does not he fold. she checks he bets all in she call. top pair second kicker is not a trapping hand... lets say:she checks (to trap) phil check behind. get there in the turn. then you would probably say she played horribly for checking the turn. checking is borderline stupid. with the amount off bb he had left...

Phil's not totally wrong here. Shak had only 400k left in his stack, so she called a quarter of her stack preflop. The flop was QT6, so Phil's only beat against a Qx hand, since JJ-AA would've reraised him preflop. He's thinking Shak can't call 1/4th of her stack preflop without an ace, so the only hand she could have is AQ, and she'd reraise with that preflop. Basically the only hand that beats him is KQs (which is unlikely) so naturally Phil's thinking "ok, my tens are good here".

@laiseri You're misreading the overlay. Shak's all-in bet is 301k because that's Phil's remaining stack, not Shak's. Look at her chip stack compared to Phil's, she has tons of chips. She played the hand absolutely fine.

I love Hellmuth, but here is how he should have read her hand. He raised from under the gun, representing a big hand...AK or a big pocket pair. When she called preflop he should have put her on the same kind of hand. Then on the flop when she shoved, if he had really thought about her hand, he should have put her on either AQ, pocket As, pocket Ks, or pocket Qs. He couldn't beat anything with a ten. Misstep for Phil.

I dont get Hellmuth at all, he is a very poor poker player in my opinion, part of what makes the great players as good as they are is they can deal with the ups and downs of poker, Hellmuth cant, when he loses a pot he blames the other player for calling a raise or raising, when he loses and didnt have the best hand he blames the dealer for dealing such a hand, if he gets bluffed or outplayed he goes nuts and says that everyone is going to fall into his trap (which has never worked).. DONK!

he raised 3X UTG(40K X 3->120K)..all folded and the BB who is the chip leader on that table calls with KQs (I personally think raising 3X there is the 1st mistake since theres many people left behind to act..)
Pot now is 290K including antees..
Mr helmuth still has 305K left behind... abt 7.5BB He can still fold when he knows hes beat.. forget abt set, he needs atleast top pair to call that all in..

@redhidus Personally I dont think he should have been in the hand or if he was I think pushing would have been better..But folding would have been the right move on the flop when he had middle pair but I think he thought she was trying to bluff him.....Still got to love how he complains about her calling with KQs vs his A10s.But there he goes with his book play usually a raise from the UTG means a high pair..So he wanted everyone to fold and give him the blinds unless they had AA-JJ...

With suited cards your chances for a flush are higher.
They are also connected so this will also give you a nice chance for a straight.
KQ are two of the higher cards in the deck so you also have a good chance to hit top pair.
