What a beautiful performance! Michael Schade and Elina Garanca are two of my favorite singers and this is the first I've seen them together. Thank you!
@chtworld Perfecto.
Not one of today mostly known of Beethoven's works,
but one of his most b e a u t i f u l ones !
and very well performed here :-)
By the way, I also like versions on compact disc for example live from Salzburger Festspiele with Nicolaus Harnoncourt in the 1990ies, other one with John E Gardiner and one with Ph. Herreweghe (just to name the conductors)
While his feet were very firmly embedded in this earth, Ludwig's mind was really on another planet. Certainly there was just about no one on this planet who understood him. And yet the voice is always so human, the most sensitive (arguably) that we've ever heard.
IMO this loses much if not heard in the context of at least the preceding few bars of the Sanctus - the World's Most Suspended Chord and its bitter-sweet resolution in the basses. The Universe has ended, all is still, life has concluded - or so we think, until the violin descends to earth from the great void like a shred of nucleic acid from which LvB weaves us a new, living universe. I feel B is concluding the Newtonian world of classicism and anticipating Einstein by 3/4 of a century!

@kkapur111 It really is! I love Klemperer's recordings but this really is the finest I've ever heard. =)

Much though I love some of Klemperer's choices (I prefer the use of the soloists in the Pleni sunt coeli) you're correct. This is incredible.
