  • I loved Jerry. He was so down to earth he TRULY didnt play music and sing for money he did it for the LOVE of music. Add to that what a great poet he was and his wonderful tie line. As I know many men who bought those ties. He never let celebrity get to his head he lived as humbly as most of us do. God Rest his soul.

  • So hard to watch Jerry here, you know he's beggin for a fix right then.

    RIP Jerry

  • dude its scary my dad looks like jerry garcia and has done all the drugs jerry has i hope that doesnt happen to my dad

  • He looks 82 not 52 :( R.I.P Jerry

  • I love Jerry to death and everything he was about. But did he have to f*ckin do drugs at such an aold age? Couldn't he have matured and moved on from that shit? Look at Mick Jagger, Roger Waters, Billy Joel, Elton John... all went through the whole drug phase. I love you man...

  • What happened to Jerrys middle finger? Has he always been like that?

  • @BnibroC69 lost it in an accident when he was a kid

  • @BnibroC69 --choppin' wood

  • @BnibroC69 At the age of four, Garcia experienced the amputation of two-thirds of his right middle finger. While vacationing in the Santa Cruz Mountains, Garcia was given the chore of steadying wood while his elder brother chopped, when he inadvertently put his finger in the way of the falling axe. Garcia's father drove him, after his mother wrapped his hand in a towel, over thirty miles away to the nearest hospital

  • @rosen1231 Thanks. Can't believe I never noticed it before...

  • He's like a big teddy bear. Rest in paradise my favorite hippy man <3 Grateful dead; still the best band everrrrrrrrrr

  • wow, its amazing how Jerry's art has such a unique atmosphere to it. He may not be the greatest of artists, in fact having studied art, he isn't, but his work can definately go toe to toe with many professional illustrators. His art just has the peaceful, quiet simplicity and purity to it. His use of colors that are not too loud creates a pastoral feel to. It reflects, imo, his outlook on life, which you hear in his music. And as for guitarrists go, to me he was one of the best.

  • @TerrariumFusilage1 "in fact having studied art, he isn't," Who do you think you are? Wow, i've studied art too. Maybe i should go around passing judgement on people's work too. You know? His guitar playing was pretty different from most people's and he had a pretty weird technique. Are you claiming he's not a good guitar player either?

  • "Try to be nice to everybody else!"

  • 53 is too damn young, especially for such a wonderful person. R.I.P. jerry. the world died a little with him

  • I wish he was still alive. The world would be a different place. :/

  • Yea man....we all wish you would have live to 95 or 103....

  • i like how they zoom in on the napkins to show that he grabs 3 and takes the middle one. : )

  • Does anybody have this or a link to the Paul Krassner 1985 Interview of Jerry Garcia

Where he talks about the theory of the 100th Monkey ?

Please tell me. Thank you !

  • he doesn't strike me like a guy who survived a diabetic coma so bad that he had to relearn to play guitar.

  • Despite his condition at the time he was still so lively and optimistic about life, such a beautiful and inspirational man.

  • Christ, Jerry looks terrible. RIP Jerry.

  • Click 4:53 every 3 seconds and keep this in your mind at all times and some day there WILL be peace.

  • A shining light. One of the very few.

This is tough time for Jer though. Even the body language is off.

  • anybody else think hes zooted in this video?

  • closing statement = best

  • everybody just be nice to everybody else... Garcia was so cool. I'm 41 years old, and the years from 1988 to 1995 touring were the best years of my life...

  • What brand of glasses is Jerry wearing? Many thanks in advance...Peace :)

  • Love You Jerry RIP!

  • He looks a little irritated, maybe by the bright lights, maybe by the inane questions, maybe by the demands on his schedule.

And yeah, I think he's either coked up or jonesing -- but that's the tragic part, nothing more. He's certainly not the only artist in history who had a dark side that eventually overwhelnmed his gifts and his life. I really wish people would stop harping on that as if it was some kind of deep personal flaw that only he ever had.

  • Cooooool dude!!!

  • he died when i was a year old. but he is my hero, so peaceful, man i love the dead

  • I wish Jerry would have taken better care of himself, and would still be around today. I think he was still struggling w/ heroin addiction, smoking, and with diabetes, bad habits didn't help. I miss him and his music.

  • Wow, it's a bummer... I know the Dead was more of a chore than anything else at this point, seemed he actually enjoyed his art still. I hate to harbor a grudge but it's too bad Koons had to monetize the art, too...

  • We miss you so much Jerry R.I.P.

  • @tokenlive what made him a scumbag and why should someone who likes this suck an asshole?

  • Can you answer? Yes I can

But what would be the answer to the answer man?

  • "yeah, everybody try to be nice to everybody else, okay?"

  • I'm tired of the RIP Jerry crap. Jerry Garcia and almost everything he created IS peace his soul is in every person who cares about one another, he will become the BIGGEST inspiration in human history without a doubt all its gonna take is time.

  • One of the greatest capitalists that ever lived. Good on him.

  • @Wilco79 Not even close. He didn't even try to make money on half the stuff he could have. You sound like a fool saying that. Most of his ventures were brought to him by other people trying to make money. Don't let the facts get in the way of your "clever" comments!

  • for a guy who had done so many different drugs and for so long by this interview - in '94 - his thoughts are really together... he was a really good talker. a really good interview. the thing that most of you guys are mentioning (and it's true) ...he looks like $hit. he had a ton of personality tho. rip jerry

  • @soopanick It's amusing how he was protrayed in the media and pop culture as some sort of hippie burnout, when his intellect was far beyond most people's cognitive ability. He had an amazing ability to analyze and deconstruct.

  • @soopanick unfortunately its the coke keepin him up im sure...

  • @sstslide270 oh that drip, yeah hes all coked up,,,its hard to do that stuff in your 50sand live

  • lol why is everybody so obsessed and concerned about what drugs he was or wasn't doing? and why do you think you even know?

  • right on jerry.. right on

  • right on jerry... right on

  • right on jerry.. right on

  • people that use dope nod off, not ramble on like jerry in this video. but 1995 u could see he was definitly useing, n hurtn because of the h. was rough 2 watch,

  • Jerry knew how to use drugs to shape his mind where he wanted it.

However, in his later years where he wanted to be sped up, his heart couldn't handle it.

    Bless his soul. RIP.

  • @tehbackmaskr Interesting insight, brother.

  • @robo10146 sorry dude but cbarrett right, jerry is definetly doped up, you can tell by the way he slurs his words he was doin alot of dope in his final years

  • big change in garcia between 1994 n 1995 shows, couldn"t believe it. he n dead sounded great n looked like they were having fun, summer tour 95 he was way sick, this interview he was just a little honkd up, 2 c change that i saw live n knew jerry was in trouble, google grateful dead jack a roe r.f.k. washington,d.c. july 1995.

  • "Yea everybody try to be nice to everybody else, OK?" :) RIP, Happy birthday!

  • he needs to use, he's with drawing

  • did he dieded?

  • On the off chance that there is an afterlife, I am going to seek out Papa Bear and smoke a fat heavenly doobie with him when I get there

  • "Yeah, everybody try to be nice to everbody else, okay?"

  • like every time i watch Jerry talk i just get happy.

  • sniffles = heroin addiction

  • @cbarrett34

    No, that would be cocaine.

  • @robo10146 NOPE, you are wrong. the sniffles are due to jerry being "dopesick" from heroin

  • @cbarrett34 You don't see how fast and jittery he is? COCAINE. I know the effects of cocaine, and that is cocaine.

  • @robo10146

    LOL project much?

  • @cbarrett34 nope, you are wrong, he wasn't doing cocaine in his final years, he was just doing dope

  • dang. listen to that beek. luv ya jer. miss you everyday.

  • This is really sad. Jerry is obviously strung out and sick. RIP Jerry thanks for playing in Buffalo on the 4th of July those years. You are a legend.

  • Love you jerry man wish i could have heard you live instead of through speakers R.I.P. man

  • my brother had one of his ties

  • Sounds like he far superceeded yea know what i mean?

By not having the desire to succeed is to me close to enlightenment!

  • ART= MUSIC....MUSIC = ART.....jerry fathomed this

  • Jerry, you're still the man and the soul!!!! Peace.

    Paolo

  • Wow. I've been a deadhead for years, but I have only listened to the music. I've never heard any interviews in audio. His voice does not sound like what I expected it to at all. But that's not at bad thing at all. RIP Jerry.

  • he looks awful that's so sad I love this guy he changed music when he was alive and heroin and meth killed him

  • @HeyGidz omg he never touched meth stfu

  • We Love You Jerry!!!

  • Jerry rules.

  • dope sick'd

  • my god he looks like shit!!

  • Fuk you doctrap007, dont you ever talk BS about Jerry, you are no fan, no true fan would say that. Your a real !#$hole! Huge fan my ass.

  • @gratefulbill3323 i really like the dead too. But how would you like to describe someone who did a lot of drugs, was addicted to heroin and would eat big macs for breakfeast towards his death? Truth hurts but its not like changes that fact that he was a musical genius.

  • They guy was a junkie and had been for years. Had diabetes and probably other health issues. He was lucky to have lived as long as he did.

    Im still a huge fan!

  • Watching this it's hard to believe he's dead. He looks ill...but he's got such a love of life; I've experienced a similar feeling where loved ones that have such zest suddenly die....life is never the same without them.

  • Being an addict isn't fun. It's work. Jerry's life in the early years may have been fun and magical. In the end the dope became a full time job. Trust me.

  • Heroin sniffles - sad.

I just finished reading "Dark Star-an oral biography of Jerry Garcia" and it was quite powerful. It evoked lots of laughter, and lots of tears.

  • grateful dead na

    give me the ozric tentacle

any day seen them at the rainbow in london droning repetetive nice merch though

  • dope sick is right, he is itchin for a fix here.. 94 he was in bad shape. i love you jerry bear miss you

  • he's in his 50s here and he looks like shit,

  • But still a hero!

  • Yeah but when you think about it he lived to 200 because he had 4X as much fun as anyone else. I would love to die at 50 and have that great of a life

  • thank you posting this!

"i'm not responsible for these things"

  • what a wonderful soul :)

i know his energy is still present today

  • I love how he says, when talking about the ties and clothing at about 1:49, he says, "I don't design them... I don't send them into is-ness."

  • why dont you all just shut your mouths. does it really matter what drugs jerry was taking, it was his life and none of your business, either way he was a briliant musician and an amazing person all the way around, get over yourselves all of you

  • he's not "stoned" in this interview. If anything he's moderately "dope-sick"...

He's got the sniffles, and his pupils are dilated ("wow its so bright in here !!).....

He's like " damn let me get outta here, so i can go get right"......

  • You're a pathetic fuckin' idiot....

  • @Coventrey why?

  • RIP jerry we love u

  • Jerry was diabetic... I think him detoxing from alcohol is pretty much bullshit

  • I guess the most reliable sources say -

He checked in to get off alcohol, but died by morning. The nurses saw him struggle, but couldn't do anything until a dr. saw him. So sad that he died alone.

Nicest guy, everybody loved him and still do :)

  • how do u know that?

  • A nurse from Serenity Knolls gave interviews. She said alcohol but he had admitted that heroin was his biggest challange. His daughter Annabell gave some interviews as well, but she got her info second hand. I'm pretty sure she talked about it in a movie called "You Can't Take it With You".

  • What was Jerry's favorite drink of choice?

  • we all get old on the outside but were still kids inside, RIP Jerry

  • lets try to be nice to everybody..T_T

  • Anything else you want to say?: "Yeah everybody be nice to everybody else okay?"

    NIce

  • he seems like a very huggable guy

  • I love the way he laughed.

  • That was grate!! Just every one try to be nice to each other. :)

  • would never presume jerry to say this, there are a few things that come to mind...

atlanta has a tragic history, the evacuation of the cherokee, slave trade, the siege and burning in the civil war...

san francisco has the earthquakes... thats all i can find tragic about sf i'm sure there is more.

  • Why does he refer to Atlanta & San Francisco as 'tragedy cities'?...

  • i quit of being an artist and im so proud of these man that he continue his passion in life..T_T

i hope he live up to 103...

  • hes already gone :(

  • man are you sure?

how old did he when he died?

  • yah he died in august 1995 in cali. while he was in rehab for heroine i thinkkk!!!

and he was born in 1942 so u do the math im lazy

  • do you know whats the cause?

    man thats sad,..

and what the purpose of his rehabilitation?.

  • he died b,c he was too awesome!!!!

and the rehab was for heroine

  • You idiots are really getting on my nerves. Ignorant comments like this makye you look like a fool, who has no idea what they are talking about. Grow up.

  • What a brilliant comeback, idiot.

  • thanks, i worked all day on it

  • You worked all day on sucking dick? Well congratulations, now grow up douch bag.

  • maybe once you spell douche right

  • It was a typo douche bag, now you can grow up.

  • we neeed a miracle!

    i love him! but...yea.

  • every day!!!!

  • Wish he lived to 95.. or 103 :(

Yea, Jerry does the artwork and Deb makes millions after he dies...

  • @bobshenix

that's what happens upon the death of one's spouse. what don't you understand?

  • I love Jerry....I will love him always

  • bluesreviews:

Jerry Garcia was more talented than you will ever be.

  • i miss him

  • I was at the April 1st Atlanta show..Stone Mountain was the camp site and it was hella, hella wild and mad cool. That was my first and only Dead show. Amazing! Oh and the next day was HEMP FEST in the park at high noon. You could smoke, sell and buy pot and 5-0 didn't do shizzle!

  • YEAH!!!

  • good interview

  • god this is so sad, i never noticed all the junkie tics before... the itching and fidgeting, stream of consciousness chatter, almost like videos of ray charles back when he was using heavily.

some of the most amazing and gifted people can have tragically fatal character flaws...

anyways didn't mean to eulogize just never noticed it so obviously before seeing this post

  • fuk u dipshit he was the man

  • I see ....and you are what famous musician who makes how much a year performing?

  • You are sooooo wrong. He had more talent in his missing finger, than you will ever have in your whole life. Loser.

  • I think snow was quite popular and abundant during this period. I had my share, but I was and still am an unkown.

  • Character flaw ?

    Judge Not...

  • I've always been a big fan of tragic heroes, and Garcia is certainly one of them. His addictions were as much a dimension of his personality as was his greatness as a musician. I essentially grew up in front of this man, front row center in my high school/early college years. As far as saying he had a drug problem and that being tragic, I hardly call it a negative "judgement" just a statement of fact. A fact that sadly took him from us sooner than any of us would have liked. Again, IT'S SAD.

  • aww aint it great being a sterotyping closwed minded tool to get ass fuckedby the giverment and spoon fead your life.

  • "id like to have a career in art when Im about 95" thats so sad

  • Long Live Jerry Garcia, He did so much for the music world, and for the world.

  • he was fucking great, too bad the sound quality on this vid sucks.

  • I think the sniffling is just a good old head cold. Based on the shows I have listened to from the spring 1994 tour on the east coast, Jerry sounded pretty stuffed up most of the time. By the summer, he didn't sound as stuffed up. I'm not saying he isn't a little buzzed on something here. I'll have to check the FBI file and the Interpol dossier.

  • Thanks for the post!..Jerry is missed so hard on so many levels by so many people. He talked to me at my second show...Winterland 75 , I had just turned 14..That was the start of a wonderful life for me : -)

  • sk9utube

It never ceases to amaze me how some people can search things they know they don't like on you tube just to bust the balls of the people who do like those things. Talk about not having a life.

  • It's not like there's many hippies these days who ever congregated around any other talent, let alone have much of their own. No one cares for a dumbass hippies --- the world needs more smart ass hippies.

  • sk9utube youre exactly the wrong vibe thatd be the first to go in any kind of peaceful gathering. you sound like the anti-fellowship. youre bashing people you dont even know. just shut up and mind your own

  • he had problems, sure, so the fuck does everybody else in the world. he lived a long time for what he was doing, giving all he had so millions could enjoy what he helped make possible. you don't know what it was like to be him, or anywhere near it. so quit bein a bitch, and ENJOY THE MUSIC if you are even capable of doin so. n really...cant you look at the brighter picture because all you're doin is bein negative n talkin shit n no one likes that

  • To disrespect any human dead or alive just shows you have no respect for yourself .I hope that one day you'll see that other people have just as much value as you and deserve to live and die in peace and harmony

  • Karma's a bitch asshole

  • man jerry reached more people with his message of peace and did more good for the world than you ever probably will. sorry to put you down but you've offended me. and so what if he took acid theres nothing wrong with expirimenting and seeing what your brain is capable of. your probably just a crazy concervative loon that does and thinks whatever the US and your preacher tells you.

  • true heroin is a sketchy drug for sure. but i wouldn't judge people based on their habbits. just because a fan took heroin doesn't mean that they dont want peace. and i've never seen anyone eat their own "shit" lol. as for the skulls and bones: the name "grateful dead" might give you a clue as to why that is a typical theme. the name also comes from some old american folk mythology, i cant remember exactly what it meant but i do know it was something good.

  • The Grateful Dead is someone who is found dead but not buried. Once the deceased is found and buried by whomever, they become the grateful dead.

  • just wanted to tell u that i am the only nascar lovin, tobacco chewin, conservitive loon u will ever meet that absolutly loves jerry !!! mostly his blugrass stuff of course... long live his music man!!!

  • right on
