Nov. 1969.-- Johnnie Lee Wills, Leon McAuliffe and Hank Thompson retired, leaving KVOO, WKY, KTUL without "station bands" -- Cains Academy and Cimarron Ballrooms in Tulsa and Trianon Ballroom in Oklahoma City without regular Western Swing “house” bands.
The three encouraged one of Leon's steel guitar school instructors, Rocky Caple to form a band and pickup the radio and TV spots and rotate among the major ballrooms ror dances with personal appearances with guest stars.
If you are referring to the lead singer, it is the great Tommy Duncan. Sinatra considerd Tommy an equal vocally and one of the greatest of that period.
@Banks1042 WOW really? Sinatra said that? well, it's true. Tommy was a great singer who's not given his due in my opinion when great C&W vocalists are remembered. my old man used to see them in Texas and California when Bob opened Wills' Point. He said he ALWAYS had fun at a Bob Wills show. : )
@beatlish Joe Holley's name was James C. Holley. Bob always called him Jody though... no idea how he got Joe in the first place.. no one ever said, they just shrug shoulders.
He died July 25th, 1987. He was 70 years, 116 days old. He was the greatest man I have ever known. : )
yeah this is Brother Noel Boggs. Boggs, Wyble and Hill all left wills to Join Spade cooley about 1945-46, although I think Boggs went after Wyble and Hill.
Great song!

His name was Joe Holley. Apart from Bob himself he was the longest serving Playboy. He died in 1987, aged 70.
