There's no way that could be a misake. The thing flies in following a specific path and swoops RIGHT OVER THE ENGINE the exact moment it explodes. That's an uncanny mistake if you ask me.
You can't seriously watch this and say it was a CGI error. I heard Cuse and Lindlelof say it wasn't the smoke monster, and also read Javi's denial, but THEY'RE LYING. They didn't think people would notice, and this probably hurts the big reveal at the end about some secret of the show (smokey being responsible for all events...you know the theories). I mean, the guy gets sucked in, there's a spark, and then it goes away until the smoke rams into it and makes it explode. Use your eyes!
i tell you, is not an error, that was created to be in that way, that shadow is an especial effect... i can see it from miles away... we will know at the end of the serie, i am shure
could have been the island collecting the guys spirit. ive always thought the black smoke has something to do with dead people. like when echo sees it you can see pictures of people inside it.
They said it's an error. However, I think they are just lying! The producers confirmed that the man getting sucked into the turbine is Gary Troup, the writer of Bad Twin. This is a book made up for the Lost story in wich a formula (containing the lost-numbers) predicts the date of end of all mankind.
This is confirmed!
Now some of the theories about the black smoke has to do with time travel, and that the BS is there to protect the timeline. In order to do that, mayb this Gary Troup had to die.
Even if the producers said it's a mistake, they've got to be lying. That's a REALLY intricate CGI mistake if it even is one in the first place. It's foreshadowing of Smokie, and the producers just won't admit it. They've been known to lie about stuff before. They've said that time travel would not become part of the show, but we all know where it's headed now. I think the explosion in this video is caused by the Monster, and not a "CGI mistake".
it isnt the black smoke you idiot .. if you are a lost fan you should know what it was .. the producer said that the time the pilot get in that stuff it would wxplode but it didnt so it was a error ..
The episode aired 4/24 2008, it's like Benjamin Linus summons the black smoke, to kill Charles Whidmore's agents when they attack the barracks.. This is right after he says "They've changed the rules." And later in the episode, he tells Locke he can ask Jacob all about it. So obviously, Jacob has something to do with the black smoke.
a secuity system probably to attack the dharma initaitive back in the day and thats probs y theres the big fence thing around the barracks the others dont know what it is 4 some reason
My explanation for this would be the black smoke would represent death as it is present around those that are about to die or have died. Only when the time is right death takes its victims. Just my idea.
i think its some kind of bio mechanical machine slash experiment that was made on the island and all of the test subjects are the people on the island who were brought together by some kinda of mastermind but the thing will get destroyed in the end and well never know what it is.
they only said its a production error in order to keep this debate going on. because clearly 99% of the people who has seen this in slow-motion would believe its the black smoke. then everyone would be concurring that its the black smoke. But NO, producer pops out of nowhere and tells ppl thats its an error. which forms an opposition side. and the debate keeps going on...so that people would be discussing about it even more before season4 begins...they do this to AVOID LOSING THEIR AUDIENCE. DUH
Actually, since the side saying it's the Black Smoke doesn't have any evidence AND has the producers against them; your side has already lost. Too bad.
My explanation for this would be the black smoke would represent death as it is present around those that are about to die or have died. Only when the time is right death takes its victims. Just my idea.
how could it possibly be a piece of debris considering it comes from out into the sea and from high up in the air, the only excuse would be for it to be the black smoke.
here see if u watch the whole scene wen jack come out the forest theres hundreds of these wee flying things flying past jack all time, maybe its ther souls n there dead or sumthing maybe they joined up to be smokey, but there are alot of flying black object in amongs some debrit too though look in the back grounds there ease to see
dude if u didnt look close enough, its not the black smoke that blows up the turbine, i mean it does but its not the magor clue.
the major clue is (if u look close enough) the man that flies into the turbine gets pushed in by a very, very small piece of black smoke, look closly when that part is and u'll go OOOOOOHHHHH!!??!
That's not smokey, it's a piece of airborne debris falling into the jet wash and blowing away again. When is the last time smokey appeared as a tiny, perfectly rectangular, flat plate? ...yeah.
Nothing would randomly fall like that in a perfect arc directly towards the engine and blow back upwards like that. If anything it would get sucked in, or blown away from us in the direction the engine fans are being expelled. It was put there for a reason and we just dont know it yet.
It was the pilot, they built upon this. It could've easily been the original idea for Smokey.
if you see the flying black superman is see through, and if you stopd on 0:44 for example the explision debris look identical,it's just the movement that i'm a bit confused about so i think also a gllitch trying to be covered up,also smokey doesnt fly like superman it roams around the forest not out in the sky..and not that fast either, also why would it be there?the guy sucked in was the cause of the explosion so why add smokey as if to make us think it was him??
The engine blew up from the guy being sucked into it, i think the black thing is something else being sucked into the engine as well, then when the engine blows up the explosion causes the black thing to go away from the engine.
If you ask me, the fact that the "debris" is above / behind the engine before it even explodes, leads me to believ they just don't want us knowing it's 'Ol Smokey, yet.
my guess is that it was something that triggered the explosion that was not supposed to make it on screen....not that im a demolitions expert because i really have no idea how that would work but im guessing thats what it is. they probably say its a piece of debris so that people know it isnt the black smoke
If you watched last night's episode when Sayyid asks Locke about the "monster" Locke mentions that it might have brought them there or something. That phantom could be the black smoke
this was not the black smoke, if you're truly lost fans you would know this is the black smokes cousin, it will be revealed in the end of lost

@ODonnellII Except, its an optical illusion. It happens to be a particle of debris floating very close to the lens of the camera.
