There's no way that could be a misake. The thing flies in following a specific path and swoops RIGHT OVER THE ENGINE the exact moment it explodes. That's an uncanny mistake if you ask me.

You can't seriously watch this and say it was a CGI error. I heard Cuse and Lindlelof say it wasn't the smoke monster, and also read Javi's denial, but THEY'RE LYING. They didn't think people would notice, and this probably hurts the big reveal at the end about some secret of the show (smokey being responsible for all events...you know the theories). I mean, the guy gets sucked in, there's a spark, and then it goes away until the smoke rams into it and makes it explode. Use your eyes!

They said it's an error. However, I think they are just lying! The producers confirmed that the man getting sucked into the turbine is Gary Troup, the writer of Bad Twin. This is a book made up for the Lost story in wich a formula (containing the lost-numbers) predicts the date of end of all mankind.

Now some of the theories about the black smoke has to do with time travel, and that the BS is there to protect the timeline. In order to do that, mayb this Gary Troup had to die.

Even if the producers said it's a mistake, they've got to be lying. That's a REALLY intricate CGI mistake if it even is one in the first place. It's foreshadowing of Smokie, and the producers just won't admit it. They've been known to lie about stuff before. They've said that time travel would not become part of the show, but we all know where it's headed now. I think the explosion in this video is caused by the Monster, and not a "CGI mistake".

The episode aired 4/24 2008, it's like Benjamin Linus summons the black smoke, to kill Charles Whidmore's agents when they attack the barracks.. This is right after he says "They've changed the rules." And later in the episode, he tells Locke he can ask Jacob all about it. So obviously, Jacob has something to do with the black smoke.

Nothing would randomly fall like that in a perfect arc directly towards the engine and blow back upwards like that. If anything it would get sucked in, or blown away from us in the direction the engine fans are being expelled. It was put there for a reason and we just dont know it yet.

It was the pilot, they built upon this. It could've easily been the original idea for Smokey.

The engine blew up from the guy being sucked into it, i think the black thing is something else being sucked into the engine as well, then when the engine blows up the explosion causes the black thing to go away from the engine.

my guess is that it was something that triggered the explosion that was not supposed to make it on screen....not that im a demolitions expert because i really have no idea how that would work but im guessing thats what it is. they probably say its a piece of debris so that people know it isnt the black smoke
