So I have always wondered about this. As a native speaker of English and a vocal performance major (i tend to favor musical theatre but have done my fair share of opera, we work for hours on the pronunciation of songs and arias so that we are true to the language we are singing. I admit that Pavoratti's voice is pure gold, but I found in almost offensive that he wouldn't do our language the justice that we give his when singing. Comments?

This rendition lacks the expression you would expect to find from this song. The words are sung too short in parts and way to abrupt, not sure if this is because of his accent. Much better versions of this song. Still the guy has an amazing voice.

No it's not quite true, Italians close to him say he was a fat arrogant bastard...... ate too many sausages, 500 gramme pasta starters, small chidren, just about any thing he could get in his mouth. But he could still get up without a winch and sing his lungs out.... Brilliant!

Luciano I miss you so much. I was driving along when his voice came on the car radio, I had to stop the car, I sat there crying as he sang Holy Night. I saw him in the UK twice in 1992 at Sheffield Arena, never to be forgotton. Rest in Peace.

As an opera singer gets older his/her voice begins to decay and it was an outstanding performance anyways... can you hit a high C... ya thats what I thought.

Pavarotti's voice is sometimes a bit more steely, but it's more of a stylistic difference.
