  • Great video Billy! I have the same guitar! When restringing all the strings, which string should i begin with? Hi E string or low E string? Thanx!

  • Great tip with the capo, I have a Yamaha SA503 TVL and this will definitely helped me restrung it in a easier way.

  • good tips - thanks a lot!

  • Thanks for the post Billy,just broke my first string at a gig last night,a "D" string.

    Your proceedure is very helpful,thanks for taking the time to help us with our new

    Setzer Hot Rods. I love mine!!

  • @tcannondude Glad I could help! Hit me up any time. I have a great ebook explaining the entire guitar set up process in September. Packed with info, no fluff. Always happy to answer any questions!! -Billy

  • mmh.. i fucked up a little.... took off all the strings at once hehehe

  • Veeeeery Helpful! Caipo worked like a charm!

  • Thanks that was really helpful. Do the locking tuners on your beautiful twangster really help? And do you ever have any trouble with the strings pinging off the bridge? I went to 13 gauge strings and it still pings off my Bigsby double anniversary.

  • @tony9L9L I think the locking tuner do help a certain percentage. I can't really say how much though. I never have trouble with strings pining off the bridge however. Maybe I have a lighter touch then some players. I'd say try to deepen the slots on the saddles a little bit and see if that helps. Do you have a tune-o-matic on your guitar or the roller bridge? -Billy

  • @300guitars I know I should adjust my technique but I'd rather not. I have the space controller bridge because its better tuning wise with the Bigsby. Thanks for your response, I really appreciate your time and advice.

  • Debs- You can do the swap one string at a time and it will be fine. Or you can take some masking tape and tape the bridge down to the body so you can do all the tuners at once. After the tuners are changed string it up and take off the tape. If you decide to go this route then take the piece of tape and stick it to your clothing first a few times to make it not as sticky. Hope this helps! Rock!!

  • hi billy;

    i just bought a gretsch g3161 it s/b coming tuesday. i also ordered sperazel locking tuners and strings. i was planning on removing all the strings first, then remove tuners then restring w/new strings. now , after watching ur vid i'm not so sure; i'll be doing it correctly.

    should i remove low e string first and tuner, replace e tuner then put new e string on, then a string etc...?

    thanx for any help u can give me.

    sincerely;

    debs

    keep strummin'

  • Man, I should have looked this up, now I have dents were the ball end slipped out

  • Feel free to contact me in the future for more info. I'll try to help you out! -Billy

  • So do you not have to wrap the string around the post several times with locking tuners?

  • Absolutely not! Multiple wraps will actually cause the strings to not stay in tune. No wraps!!

  • Thanks. This is one of the most useful videos that I've found. You should have seen me trying to change strings on my Gretsch guitar before I saw this video. Sheesh.

  • Great! I'm glad I could help. Feel free to contact me with any questions or visit the website for a ton more info! Cool.

  • Thanks for the capo trick! That's a very useful idea.

  • string gauge on your hot rod ?
