Had no idea why, but this cat turned me on to the low, down, dirty blues...today, I know it was because it was so simple and pure...love his music today as much as I did when I first heard him in the 1960's.
First heard this man's great music in the 50's 60's WLAC Nashville Hoss Man Allen was the DJ ..Great time's back then The radio would fade in and out But we would listen intently Also Lightning Slim Rooster Blue's
@Dbanuelos2008 It's a 12 bar blues & the chord sequence is what's known as a 1, 4 & 5. That means you count 4 letters from whatever key you start in for the 4 chord and 5 for the 5. So this one sounds like it starts in E, so its E for the 1 chord, then A for the 4 chord, then B for the 5 chord. There are 4 beats to each bar (or measure), so you can count: 1 and a 2 and a 3 and a 4 for each bar.
The 12 bars are as follows: bar 1 is e, then 2a 3e 4e 5a 6a 7e 8e 9b 10a 11e 12b, hope this helps
IS THERE ANYBODY OUT THERE THAT CAN REMEMBER ERNIES RECORD SHOP NASHVILLE TENNESSE. FROM 6-12 EVERY NIGHT. THAT'S WHERE I FIRST HEARD THE BLUES, AND I GOT HOOKE. I LOVED JIMMY REEDS MUSIC EVER SINCE THEN, AND ALL THE OTHER BLUES I HEARD ON ERNIES RECORD SHOP.
@maryleslie100 ==late to answer, but YES I listened in the early 60's when I lived in detroit.ERNIE was the singer Earnest Tubbs [big country name in those days.
@maryleslie100 In 1959 and 1960, I would listen to Ernies Record Roost from Nashville on saturday night. Reception was poor, but a lot of fun. Great blues and gospel. It would take me far from the hills on NC.
I've been a very big fan of Jimmy Reed since about 1954. One of the greatest blues singers, harp players, and writers, of all time. I only got to see him one time, in the early '70s, and he was just as great as when he was recording these songs in the '50s.
When I close my eyes and hear this I can JUST HEAR ole John R on WLAC introducing this song. Ole John R way down south in DIXIE on WLAC the voice of the Life&Casualty Insurance Company in NASHVILLE,TENN the 1510 spot on your radio dial. OH YEAH !!!
Listened to Jimmy back in Arkansas, Fayeteville, where I learnt to love the Blues. Bought the album at a sale store, when C.D where coming new into the market. I love the Delta so much that I could die for it.
Jimmy did most of his recordin for the Vee Jay label, and JL Hooker did a good number for them also. How about a few of those if anyone has em, please, Maudie, King Snake, .
Man this is real blues, and as "Bleedn' Gums" said, "Singin' the blues ain't about makin' you feel better, it's about makin' everybody else feel as bad as you do."
I'm so thankful for the internet and people like oldschoolen1 for uploading these treasures. Mark my words, the kids in grade school right now will be leaders of the next musical revolution.
One of the reasons I used to love WLAC in NASHVILLE years ago,,JOHN R or GENE NOBLES would 'PUT DOWN THESE KINDA BLUES" especially JIMMY REED. SEXY GRINDING MUSIC
Jimmy was so cool, he had no notion he was cool at all...He was just Jimmy. Wrote the best blues songs and played like everything was in slow motion. Forgot his own lyrics, was happily drunk on stage half the time but still one of the best. But NOBODY writes them like him.
This is just a somthing all the way from the strrets of AZUSA,CALIFORNIA. Just to let you know that over here in the big s.g.v we low-ride. And one thing for sure this is low-riding music.KINGKRUMPLETFACE other wise known as mikeydog.

He had seizures from epilepsy, according to the biography. That's rough. But he kept going all the way.

Of all the videos of great blues musicians, it's a shame that few show the great Jimmy Reed. Thanks for posting this song.
