  • If you need your basement waterproofed in NY, contact me.

  • Freedom drain!

  • Shouldn't there be a bed of gravel in the trench BEFORE the drain pipe is dropped in and then cover the drain pipe with more gravel?

  • we had someone recommend this terminate into a tank, where he would install a pump that would pump the water out of the property.. would you recommend that?

  • I would like to see how it's all attached and the finished project. Are they going to put gravel over the wrapped pipe or just sod? I assume the one end will attach to the house guttering somewhere?

  • Your channel is truely inspiring! I have to give you a 5 stars! Love it so much. Let's stay in touch. Check out mine sometimes too!

  • Can anyone tell me what to do with the other end of the pipe. Should it be covered by the sock

and under the rocks or should it be exposed to allow the water to escape?

  • @mikey1011mikey If you put any type of fabric on the end of the tube where the water is escaping, you will just impede the flow of that water. Do not cover the output of the pipe with anything. (Except maybe a very course grate to prevent animals from entering).

  • nicely done. I need about 150 feet of french drain at my house. Gotta get to it!

  • Only girly boys call them French Drains. They are called Trench Drains.

  • Doing a drainage in yard.

  • Great video!!

  • shouldn't the holes go up so the water can drain in the pipe?

  • where does the drain end? does it just end by going into the ground away from the home?

  • @sinkryap Yup. But, as you can see on the pipe, it also drains out of the pipe through the holes that are on the bottom portion.

  • @sinkryap It should daylight somewhere and yes you are correct. It does no good to install a "trench drain" not french drain without it being able to drain. Of course this is the DIY network so . . .

  • how deep should the trench be? for the chicagoland area. Worried about frostline depth

  • how is the landscape fabric supposed to keep roots out?

  • @ctb619 Because of how 'tight' the fabric is the roots would take the easier route of expansion and just go around it.

  • I SECOND THAT @ DHSWPEA

  • Great Video, We have had problems with standing water for a while now and did not have an idea how to fix my pond in the back yard, I can not wait till I can get this installed.

  • @autox944 Auto, another idea would be a dry well.

In my opinion, they're much easier to install than a french drain.

  • Did he tape the joints? Glue them.

Other than that, pretty good job.

    The diggin is the bitch!

  • Didnt you listen?

  • He said that he taped them

  • how deep should the trench be? for the chicagoland area. Worried about frostline depth. how about the angle for water flow. what should the degree of angle be?

  • @bkel1 Shouldn't be too big of a problem during the cold months.

If you're doing this to shunt water away from your house to keep the basement dry that shouldn't be much of a concern during the months in which there will be problems with freezing.

But, to be safe I don't think you'd need to go any deeper than 4 feet.

  • It should start from at least 12 inch below. The slope angle of 1 degree is enough. If you do it more than that, water flows to quick and leaves the possible dirt behind.

  • Thank you for posting this.. I was looking for this demonstrated. P.S. If you want to send Ahmed Hassan to South Carolina, please let me know, I've got some projects I'd love some help with. :)
