  • Cheers! To one of the world's most cherished master guitarists... Ya gotta love Rik !

  • What a Guitar Master!!! One can tell he plays from within, cuz you just don't learn this in music class, eh?

  • Rik was Triumph

  • I remember when my dad played this for me. I was 16. It changed my interest in music for years to come. Man, I love me some blues.

  • Anyone have the lyrics of this song?

Can you send it to me please?

    Thank you!!

  • amazing vocals,amazing guitar

  • I love that Yamaha pacifica! Anybody have one for sale? OR a Yamaha pacifica 1221?

  • That guitar Rik is playing are you sure its a Yamaha 1412 model.. maybe its a custom model for him, as mine has different fret markers.. I didnt realize that they sold for that high a price. Yikes..

I dont agree with the one poster here, i think mine is a great player, but it has a steve morse bridge pickup

  • I don't have any idea what I would've said to Rik if he would've answered the phone. I would've probably got tongue-tied and said something stupid. I did stop at a filling station to get a few liters of gas and I asked the attendant if he knew who Rik Emmett was and he said yes. He told me that Rik would stop in to fill up every once in a while and said that he knew him by the cool Jaguar he drove.

  • Yes, the great drummer for Rush. My girlfriend and I were up there just for a visit. Neither one of us had ever been to Toronto before. I remember while we were up there, the Blue Angels were performing and one crashed into Lake Ontario and that same weekend The Stones performed two concerts at Exhibition stadium. We also attended THE X, which was going on while we were there. We couldn't afford tickets to the Stones concert, though.

  • here ya go i love all R&B ALL MUSIC REALLY

  • I was fortunate to see Rik several times in So. California on the ABSOLUTELY and IPSO FACTO tours. He played small clubs and each show was amazing. And what a killer band he had back then: Randy Cooke on drums, Steve Skingley/Chris Brockway on bass, Marty Anderson on keys, Colleen Allen on sax, Sil Simone on second guitar. I'm sure some hardcore Triumph fans will blast me for saying this, but they were better than Triumph.

Rik, your music definitely had the "GB Factor." *grin*

  • Hi Ken, I agree with you. I'm a big Triumph fan, mostly a Rik Emmitt fan. Gil and Mike are great musicians, but I believe Rik far outshadowed the rest of the trio when they were Triumph. I believe he's always been very underrated as a guitar player, I'd rank him in the top 25. SUE ME !

  • top 10 for me, no litigation here :)

  • Hey Diego, Someone else commented on how Rik can play such difficult licks and sing at the same time. It is incredible how he does it. I'd like to know when or if he is coming to Ohio. I would love to see another one of his performances.

  • Yes, his music now is more bluesy and you're right, his band here is definitely better that his Triumph lineup. Back in '89 I was visiting Toronto and I just happened to be staying at a hotel in Mississauga which I believe is his hometown. Just out of curiosity I thumbed through the phonebook to find the # for Metalworks studio and called them. I asked to speak with Rik and they told me he had just left.

I never did call back because I didn't want to bother him. I did enjoy Toronto, though.

  • Yeah, Mississauga is in fact where the Metalworks studio is, but I think Rik's hometown is actually Toronto. But they're only ~ 20 miles from each other, so no big difference. Both are just across the lake (Lake Ontario) from St. Catharines, which is Neil Peart's hometown. Just a little trivia there for anyone who cares.

IIRC, Rik sold his stake in Metalworks and no longer records there.

Heh heh ... so what would you have said to him if he'd have picked up the phone when you called?

  • He is the reason I picked up a guitar and started playing! He is simply the Best guitarist ever!

  • wow i dont know but it seems that im like the youngest rik emmett fan well that i know of becouse everyone i know likes the crap bands like the jonas brothers and stufdf they dont like true music like triumph rik emmett the beatles or anything like that oh well

  • Hey guy, you may be the youngest Rik Emmet fan but, you are a fan of an amazing musician! I bet that 5 years from now you remember a performance like this one compared to a pop band made by Disney. Like the music that you enjoy and don't worry about what your friends are listening to.

  • I went to two guitar clinics that he hosted. I had the opportunity to sit and talk with him after. He is a very nice and humble person.

  • Not only is Rik an amazing guitar player and musician, he is one of the nicest and most sincere people to grace this earth. This song means a lot to me and I was fortunate enough to meet and jam with Rik a couple of years ago. Playing guitar onstage with Rik was definitely the highlight of my life!

  • A friend of mine got me an autographed copy of Ipso Facto not long after it came out, and I know pretty much every song on that CD note for note, and Rik does a tremendous job playing this song here. You are bound to get a lot of hits on this video since Rik discussed it in his latest email to his fans. Great video, I enjoyed it tremendously!

  • I saw Triumph twice back in the 80's God i'm getting old 49 recently lol Rick is great.

  • Awesome!! Thanks for posting this!

I was lucky enough to be sitting front row at the Campbell St Station in Sarnia when he played this song on his Ipso Facto tour in '92. He's incredible!

He does that beautiful 1412 (Yamaha Pacifica) justice... it's now a really rare instrument.

    Thanks again!

  • Rare but they are terrible guitars (I own one.) They have no sustain due to too much lamination of woods and the hollowed out tone chambers. Also notice the intonation on the notes he is playing is out. Those guitars are impossible to intonate. I know, I have had one for many years. Frustrating to say the least after paying $2200 for it in 1993 dollars!

  • One of the true masters. Human history will record him as one of the greats for generations and generations. He brings Glory to GOD!

  • awesome tune...awesome musician

  • glad to see this here. I had the studio recorded CD, but lost it. Great guitar!
