Say what you want, this is a bad ass machine. Although loud, this is a very well done car. I would never do stripes on a car to be driven on the street, but I'm glad you did it to this car. It's pretty brilliant.
Ford SA, or SAMCOR as it was known back then, manufactured 250 Sierra XR8's for homoglation purposes.
It had a 302 cubic inch small block V8 from a Mustang.
There has never been a Cosworth XR8 or any other V8 in a Sierra from Cosworth. There were however RS Cosworths and RS500 Cosworths - if I recall correctly, these had 2.0 16v Turbo engines in them.
From what I understand, Ford did build a Sierra XR8 in South Africa, with a carburetored 302 for a few years. But that is the only v8 Sierra that I have ever read about. ^_^
@lostwill86. The ONLY Sierra in the world to be accurately badged "Cosworth" is the two liter, 16 valve, turbocharged unit which was developed by Cosworth engineering for Ford UK. Secondly, it does not matter whether Cosworth engineering built the unit, it still does not make the car an XR8 "Cosworth". Thirdly, the only Sierra in the world that is known as "The Animal", was the Sierra XR8 owned, built and raced by Willie Hepburn in the mid 80's in the Wesbank Modified Saloon car series.
@Titchify yes i am aware of the history of the unit. What makes it a cosworth is the fact that its a cosworth shell. Its like sticking a M5 v12 into a M3 might not be its engine but at the end of the day its still a M3
@lostwill86 Sorry buddy, but it is not a Sierra Cosworth shell. They were all two door. Only the Sapphire Cosworth (with the boot) had a 4-door shell. This is just a dressed up XR8 with a couple of Cosworth body panels.
@lostwill86 All things considered, the car in the video clip is a pretty one. I have always liked the Ford "Tiger Stripe" Theme. And from the limited view on the video, the car looks very well put together.
@lostwill86 dude, I'm a big BMW fan (my uncle used to race 'em and all) but I haven't heard about a V12 engine in an M5. which one of us is stupid here?
@codenamecordon sorry i do appologise, i meant v10. have seen the 750Li put in e30s and the twin turbo'd (heard rumors of one in Sweden thats quad turbo's. i'm not stupid it was a simple typing error, that, i'm sure you have made many of them as we all have. so in future i advise against less of an ignorant approach. i to am a massive BMW fan. i own a e30 320i that is currently being re-built with a 740i v8 and 735i manual box, coil-overs, loads of tastey bits going to take a long time though
@lostwill86 niice (Y) but yeah, there was even a forum thread about a 5-liter twin-turbo squeezed into an E30. but E36 325 to 4.4 conversions are quite popular here in Estonia :D where are you from?
@lostwill86 since I'm putting together some projects myself, could you tell me, how good does the 3.2 take forced induction? and are you talking about the 3.2 from the E36 M3 or the E46 M3?
@codenamecordon it depend on your buget if you can afford it go for the e46 3.2 but if you are on a tight buget go for the e36 3.2 or even better a 3.0 because its a stronger engine as standard. they take pretty well but you'll need to upgrade your head gasket, manifold, pistons etc if you plan on running very high boost, but if you are going to sun low boost the standard internals will be ok but an upgraded head is a must. i suggest better pistons and cams to make things run better too!
@lostwill86 if I need to make, let's say... 600-700hp, is that okay with these engines? and rather a 3.0 than a 3.2? do I need better internals and new manifolds for that?
@codenamecordon for that power you'll need better internals the block should be ok tho. the the 3.0 is cheaper and more reliable in the e36. if you can afford it go for the e46 m3 engine because horsepower freaks in the USA supply kits off the shelf for them

@codenamecordon i'm from ireland, here we'll normally go for the 4.4 because its easier to get, or we'll turbo the 3.2
