  • How much was all that amazing kit? Great video by the way.

  • @TheMikeyH123 My equipment is a Logitech Momo Racing wheel, BRD Speed7 pedals and ACT Labs shifter with the outer plastic casing replaced by a stiff aluminum frame. It all cost about $650. Actually, Logitech doesn't make the Momo anymore, but do sell a newer wheel (the G27) with pedals and shifter. Other wheel/pedal/shifter combos to check out are Fanatec (German) and Thrustmaster (the T500RS is their latest and greatest). It's all depends on how much you want to spend to get the realism. :)

  • @chrisobr Thanks very much for replying! I am only 14 so cant afford much of this! This is one of my favourite videos now :)

  • @TheMikeyH123 Yeah, good quality sim-racing gear isn't cheap. You can, of course, get a much cheaper wheel and pedals than mine, although the realism will suffer. But cheap stuff is better than no stuff, so if you really want to get racing, you can without breaking the bank. I'm afraid I don't have any advice about the lower end of the sim-gear market, but there's lots of info (forums etc.) online.

I think you'll like my other vids, too. Search YouTube for my user name "chrisobr". Have fun!

  • @chrisobr Thank you very much, I have subscribed as well for if you make any more videos! I have already watched all you others :) Thank you very much for replying and for your help!

  • @TheMikeyH123 Don't hold your breath waiting for my next video. It might be a long while before I get around to it, but I would like to try some new things next time. We'll see! :)

  • Вот это да! Супер...завидую ему по доброму)))

  • @icejimy8020 Не завидуйте мне. Перейти гонок! :)

  • yeah, I agree, the engine is a music, but I just think that some people want music =/

aff, fuck these people that don't apreciate good video when they watch one !!!

keep making these awesome videos !!!!!!!

  • 5 people were in this rece, and lost

  • @Foodencio

Hmm... Not quite sure what you're getting at.

    Chris

  • @chrisobr 5 people disliked the video ^^

  • @chrisobr 5 people disliked the video ^^

  • @chrisobr 5 people disliked the video ^^

  • @Foodencio

Okay, now I understand. Yes, 76 viewers liked it and 5 didn't. I know a few people thought it was silly that I wear gloves in the video (and I explained why I do that), but otherwise, what's not to like? I've tried my best in all my videos (have you seen the others?) to show how one can use realistic driving techniques in a racing sim. The Road Atlanta video is the best quality. The Donington and Brands Hatch videos have more racing action but their video quality is not as good.

  • @chrisobr There's nothing wrong in your videos. And yes, I've seen the others, the're perfect. I think they bumped the mouse, causing them to err the like button. All you videos are awesome !!!

  • @chrisobr There is nothing to don't like in your videos, they are perfect. Yes I've seen the other videos. So...I think they bumped the mouse, because you videos are awesome, I don't know why they watch the videos, I think people should give the opinion by voting for the author's attempt to make videos for example, someone who likes shooting games And don't like racing games, see a video of racing game and vote "dislike" shit, this is absurd. See what I mean?

  • @Foodencio Thanks for the good words about my videos. Yes, some people think of GTR and other racing sims as games like any other kind, but I see them as simulations and so I try to drive them as realistically as I can. Actually, I've never had any interest in any computer games, especially the shooting games. I'm purely a motor racing fan and that's why I love the racing sims. :)

  • @chrisobr I don't know how it will be, but what about puting a music in the video, but try put the music with the volume lower the the engine volume...if the video don't be good, you take away the music.

    thanks.

  • @Foodencio I've never liked music in a racing video, real or simulated. I'll show you why. Search YouTube for "Onboard an McLaren F1 GTR in Le Mans" for a typical example of an onboard video ruined by music. Then search for "Onboard BPR GT Mclaren F1" and listen to that beautiful V12 sound with no music to spoil it. I believe that the sounds that cars make (particularly V12s and V6s) are music, so for me, playing music over the sound of the McLaren F1's BMW V12 is totalmente supérfluo! :)

  • sikk!!

  • @montysingh5124 Thanks!

  • seriously man... have you not thought about saving up and getting a real track car and going to the track, its honestly not that expensive plus you will have a life .

  • @rossiD1983 A great suggestion, but actually I'm 64 years old and have put most of my brave years behind me. I'm also a serious environmentalist >:~( and would have guilt problems getting a track car. I do have a Prius but it's not very racy. :)

As for having a life, well my activism keeps me very busy and I use sim-racing to take me away from all the environmental and other woes of the world. As you know, simming requires as much concentration as real racing, so one can think of nothing else.

  • You track ir and then it will never be the same

  • @Reader90909 Good to hear from you! I have tried Track IR and although it's pretty neat, I didn't find it enhanced my sim experience. It had to do with having to keep my eyes on the screen ahead while turning my head sideways. I think Track IR would be truly amazing with one of those head-mounted displays so that when you want to see to one side or the other, you actually turn your head and look in that direction, just like in real life. I still have my Track IR so maybe one day I will use it.

  • Man your shifting is so smooth

  • @Fucklesticks

Well, as I've said elsewhere, practice, practice, pratice until you can do it almost without thinking. When you get to that stage, you can concentrate on other important things like braking points, turn-in points, clipping points, when to apply the throttle and how much etc. Then it all becomes one flowing experience as you move from corner to corner, lap after lap. When you're really in the zone all the corners and your actions blend together like a sort of meditation.

  • what shifter are u using, and pedals.......?

  • @hpiracer416

The shifter is an ACT Labs with the outer plastic cover replaced by a very stiff aluminum frame (made by a friend of mine) which makes its action more positive and very solid, so it doesn't feel like a toy anymore. The pedals are the Speed 7s by BRD of Britain; good quaility materials, and very adjustable for good heel and toe work.

  • nice guide, im italian, I could tell you that the wheel, and change as I get the same as yours?

    Thanks....

  • @Slash91Blues

Sono spiacente, non capisco la vostra domanda.

  • I like the way he shifts and its natural to him lol. I would just spin out

  • @Reader90909,

    Practice makes perfect! :)

  • And by the way, take a look at my Road Atlanta video for a closer look at my footwork.

    Chris

  • Nostalgia attack! I loved my old Momo: the rubber feel was awesome.

  • @TriggerHappyJim2

I've used the wheel so much over the last few years that the rubber is getting sticky in a couple of places! I think it's time to think about a leather-wrapped wheel. I don't like the suede-wrapped wheels because they wear and get all shiny in places. But that old Momo rubber rim sure gives me good grip! :)

  • thats sick man i'm jealous

  • Give it a try yourself.

  • easier said then done, if i had the money maybe i would! ahaha

  • My equipment cost about $650 but you can get it all for less these days, and what I have my wheel and shifter mounted on is a wooden horse I made myself. Likewise for the wooden base my pedals are mounted on. The monitor is actually a 30" Dell TV, cheaper than a monitor of the same size, and although not as high res as a true monitor, the big picture really adds to the realism. Anyway, for a hard-core motor racing fan, it's all just too much fun, so of course, I can't live without it! :)

  • sick man, well thanks for the info!!

  • No problem.

  • wow f3 thats pretty cool have u ever drove sprts cars?

  • thanks man

this is an awesome setup did u build the desk especially for the wheel?

do u race in realy aswell?

  • The wheel and shifter are mounted on a wooden horse I made for the purpose, and the pedals are mounted on a platform that raises them 4 in. off the floor so I get a good car-like driving position while I sit in my Ikea Poang chair. I've been meaning to bolt horse, pedal platform and seat together as one unit so they don't shift around, but have yet to do so (after 5 years!). You can get a bit better view of it all in my Road Atlanta vid. I did race for real back in the 1970s in F3 & Atlantic.

  • my gtr2 plays but it keeps freezing at points any suggestions wats wrong and how to stop this?

  • I'm afraid you're asking the wrong person as I've never been too computer-savvy and able to diagnose such problems. I suggest you look for a GTR2 forum where you can ask for some help. Try a Google search for "GTR2 forums" and you'll find several choices. The RSC forum would be a good start.

    Good luck!

    Chris

  • does this work on the xbox and the ps3

  • GTR was a PC-only sim as was its successors, GTR2 and GTR Evolution.

However, there are some sims that were made for xBox and PS3, but I'm afraid I know nothing about them as I'm strictly a PC guy.

    Good luck in your search.

    Chris

  • hey i was wondering what settings are you using for your wheel specifically. i just got a logitech momo and i have so much understeer i can take a corner at 30mph without spinning out.. im a noob thats why im asking a pro.

  • Freak,

I assume you're talking about the in-game wheel setting. Unfortunately I'm travelling now so don't have the info handy, but I do remember having a high number on the setting that determines how much the onscreen wheel (so to speak) turns compared to how much you turn the actual wheel. That high number basically translates as not a lot of wheel turning on my part for a fair amount onscreen. In othe words I don't like to turn my wheel a lot! :) That's what I'm used to... [see next post]

  • ... but you might like to drive differently. So a lot of trial and error will be required. (I assume you're talking about GTR2, by the way).

Other than wheel settings, there are also lots of chassis settings which could help cure your understeer. Again, you'll have to experiment with in-game car setups, but you can try finding some setups online via the various forums for GTR2. If you go to the NoGripRacing website you can download setups from there. Let me know how you get on.

    Chris

  • thanks for the tip. i was talking about GRID. ill try and look for some layouts online to deal with this. have fun traveling .

    -csfreak21

  • Never heard of GRID before, actually. Took a look on YouTube and found it a bit too arcade-like for me. Anyway, have fun with it!

    Chris

  • does heel toe work on this?

    just curious

  • Hi "Freak",

Yup. Take a look at my Road Atlanta video or my Donington video both of which have a "foot cam" behind my feet so you can see it all better.

    Chris

  • It's just a hobby like any other. What do you do in your spare time?

  • nice gloves

  • Yes, others have mentioned that, and usually as an indication that they think I'm some kind of sim-racing nerd (which I don't really appreciate). Anyhoo, I find that in a long session e.g. a 2-hour race, I'll start to get a blister on my left thumb. Besides that, the gloves soak up the sweat from my hands so the wheel's rubber rim doesn't get slippery and I don't have to grip it so hard, thereby not getting tired as quickly. Believe it or not, sim-racing can be a real and very sweaty workout.

  • a 2 hour race wtf

  • Not sure what you're getting at. A 2-hour race is possible in GTR2. But then a 24-hour race is also possible. Always wanted to try one but haven't yet. Not only have to set aside a whole day, but also have to find a co-driver willing to do the same. Maybe I can get the wife up to speed! :)

  • Whats your setup? Momo and what else?

    Thanks!

  • My equipment is a Logitech Momo Racing wheel, BRD Speed7 pedals and an ACT Labs shifter with the outer plastic casing replaced by a stiff aluminum frame. Just Google everything and you can find all the details about where you can buy them and how much they cost.

  • Awesome, hopefully I will be getting a G25 soon and really start racing. Do you recommend racing gloves? Certin things I should be aware of?

  • I find that in a long session e.g. a 2-hour race, I'll start to get a blister on my left thumb. Besides, since my wheel has a rubber rim, the gloves soak up the sweat from my hands so the wheel doesn't get slippery and I don't have to grip it so hard. As for what to be aware of, unless you're a gaming whiz or a racing driver, there will be unavoidable learning curves with both the software and the actual racing craft you must learn. But if you're a racing fan, it'll be worth the effort.

  • Yeah,I already do a ALMS league with my friendS( I drive Audi R10) and I'm pretty good but just dont have all the high end stuff, such as wheel and all. I've been gaming for 7 years now sim racing since august of last year.

  • Let me rephrase,I have a wheel just not a high end wheel.

  • I was about to say, "you've been driving an R10 with a keyboard??!!" I assume you've been paddle-shifting since you began sim-racing. I can recommend a shifter which you can use as either an H-pattern or a sequential. And don't forget - even when using a sequential shifter in real life, you have to heel and toe when downshifting. Obviously it's more realistic to do so and it's not easy to learn, but it's way more fun. Of course, you have to be a real motor racing fan to want to do it "right".

  • By the way, have you seen my video entitled "Porsche 996 GT3RS at Road Atlanta in GTR2"? You can see my equipment better. There's a foot cam.

    Chris

  • Yup ^^ Very good shot. And actually now im using stick due to my paddel shifters are screwed up. From what I know G25 shifter has H pattern and sequential

  • That's right. The G25's pedals aren't perfect for heel and toe but they'll be a good start. They can actually be modified for the purpose, but if you're interested I'll steer you towards a forum thread about it.

  • Alrighty ! Sounds good

  • What the pedal mods are all about is making heel/toe easier. There are essentiaily three mods: a) move the brake and gas pedals closer together so you can reach both easily; b) move the brake pedal back towards the driver so that when you press on the brake, the pedal is even with the gas pedal so you can easily slide your right foot over onto the gas for blipping; and finally c) shorten the movement of the brake pedal to be just like a real life brake. [I'll continue in the next post below].

  • I think the easiest thing to do is to do a search for "G25 pedal mod" in both Google and YouTube. In both you will find information from various sources about how to do the mods. It's possible to completely rebuild the pedals, but looking at the mods on Google and YouTube, perhaps that isn't necessary. The Nixim rubber mod is similar to what I have on my BRD brake and should work well. There seem to be various ways to change the position of the pedal pads, all pretty straightforward. Good luck!

  • Sounds good,I'll check it out

  • It is not necessar to use clutch on upshift in any of the gtr games...

  • Yeah, I know, and I also know that the DBR9 has a sequential shifter and that "flat shifting" is used on upshifts, but i'm trying to drive the way I used to in real life back in the 1970s, so I use the clutch for all shifts. The 2003 996 Porsche GT3RS I drive in my Road Atlanta video has an H-pattern shifter, so that's why it's my preferred car now. I think it's too bad the clutch function isn't fully realistic in GTR2 because that means there is no punishment (a mis-shift) for sloppy shifting.

  • Are you racing online? Nice vids anyways, you should post more

  • I haven't raced online for some time due to circumstances but I hope to return to it later this year. I'm rusty as hell! :) I would also like to make more videos but can't at the moment due to the same circumstances. But one day I'll try again and make them more sophisticated. It's strange, but I haven't found anyone else making sim-racing videos quite like mine. Perhaps it's because I come to sim-racing as a motor racing fan while most other sim-racers, I suspect, come to sim-racing as gamers.

  • Beautifull video chriss enjoy wathing like once every moth or so, like the ,sound setup, track, cars ect

  • Hi R90909,

    Glad you enjoy it.

Just wondering if you've seen my other vids which, of course, are listed under "More From: chrisobr". My latest (actually about a year ago now) is a Porsche GT3RS at Road Atlanta which is better than this vid in every way (except for the sound, unfortunately, which I explain in the vid's "more info").

I hope to make more vids sometime, but not for awhile. I hope future attempts will have better sound than the Road Atlanta vid! :)

    Cheers!

    Chris

  • Good explanation... I accept :D

  • Now go out and buy some gloves and proper shoes! :)

  • It's kind of cool and lame at the same time...I don't know. I mean, leather gloves? Shoes? Ok, maybe I don't get it right...Great driving btw

  • I actually wear the gloves and shoes for practical reasons, not to impress. In a long session e.g. a 2-hour race, I'll start to get a blister on my left thumb, and besides, since my wheel has a rubber rim, the gloves soak up the sweat from my hands so the wheel doesn't get slippery and I don't have to grip the wheel so hard. As for the driving shoes, the soles are thin (essential for good feel on the brake pedal) and they go up the heel to prevent wear.

    All very practical. :)

  • I also find that the shoes make heel-and-toeing easier as they give good support and thus don't flop around on my feet like the old slippers I used to use. Basically, I'm using the same driving technique I used when I raced for real back in the 1970s, so it makes sense to me to use similar "equipment" on my hands and feet. As I said, all very practical for a keen sim-racer trying to recapture his youth! :)

    Cheers!

    Chris

  • that yellow ones a bitch lol

  • I assume you're talking about the yellow DBR9, a Russian team as I remember. Yeah, not easy to get past (don't mess with the Russians!). I actually did get past going into Druids just after the video ended, but I got so excited I spun at Surtees right afterwards! :)

    Chris

  • All part of the service. Sim-racers are a pretty friendly lot, really. :)

    Cheers!

    Chris

  • I use the Speed 7 pedals from Ball Racing Developments in the UK. The shifter is an ACT Labs RS Shifter 2006 but modified by replacing the outer plastic casing with a much stiffer aluminum frame, giving it a more realistic and robust feel.

  • I have a 360 but my laptop definitely could not run this game. I have Forza 2 and I am planning on buying Race PRO. What is the best wheel and pedals setup I can buy (that is compatible with the 360) to get the best driving experience. I know it's not PC sim quality but I want to get it the best I can.

  • If you want to race on your 360 there is not much choice in wheels and pedals.

    However... check out Fanatec.

They offer a model that's compattible with the 360. And they are not very expensive.

I have a G25 (the good stuff) but Fanatec's wheels are supposed to be even better than that.

RacePRO should be good. It's using a new physics engine, made by the guys from Simbin (the "kings" of simracing games).

  • WHAT SYSTEM

  • PC.

  • I would kill some1 for that set up, then not leave my house ever agen!!! lucky bastard!!

  • Go on! You owe it to yourself! :)

    Cheers!

    Chris

  • Excellent foot work!

  • Danke!

  • excellent driving m8. you seems a real racing driver!!! nice wheel dude

  • Excellent driving man!But it isn't the true sound from the aston martin dbr9...

  • Thanks for the commment about my driving. Yes, you're right, the sound isn't from a DBR9, but it works pretty well. The DBR9 sounds I've heard with some mods isn't that great. It seems to be a real DBR9 sound but it hasn't been well "rendered" in-sim. Pity. I think the sound in my vid is the same as used for the Lister.

    Chris

  • Great video chrisobr. I'm racing the DBR9 on GTR2 WSGT Mod and it is the best car in the sim! Are you racing in GTR2 now?

  • Yup, I've been driving GTR2 for some years now. I'll have to try that mod so I can drive the DBR9 again. How are its graphics and sound? I assume the WSGT mod is not the same as the FIAGT 2006 mod (which I found somewhat disappointing, and the DBR9's graphics and sound weren't that great).

    Chris

  • Hi Chris,

yeah the WSGT mod in GTR2 is very good. I think you'd be pleased with it. The cockpit graphics are second to none, and the sound is very satisfying. Although I'm not as authentic of a driver as you. I use the H-Gate too, somehow having No G-Effects AND Sequential shitfting is just too easy!

  • Hi Man!

I just found a site to download the WSGT mod so I'll give it a whirl. I agree that sequential shifting is too easy. I guess it's a real boon to professional drivers, but then why not just go to paddle-shifters in every class? I reckon drivers should have to be skillful and work for their money, but then I'm an old fart! My favourite car in GTR2 is the 2003 Porsche GT3RS because it has an H-pattern shifter. Sad to say, even the new real-life GT3 Cup Car has a sequential shifter. Bah!! :(

  • nerd

  • I guess you're not a motor racing fan.

  • might i ask why you have this whole setup for realism and then you use a h pattern when it should be sequential?

  • Gino,

I know the DBR9 has a sequential shifter as do almost all the GT cars these days (pity!), but since sim-racing is meant to be fun even when striving for realism, I just find that using an old-fashioned H shifter is more of a challenge and therefore more fun. I raced way back in the '70s, so using an H shifter is also my way of reliving the good old days. I drive just like I did back then. It's a hoot! Anybody can work one of those push-pull thingies. An H shifter takes more skill.

  • i know what your getting at but do you know how i could mod my shifter so i need more effort to shift?

because i love the thought of the h pattern but it always feels like im moving a stick trough a bucket of lube

    it takes absolutely no effort

  • What kind of shifter do you have?

  • standard g25

  • I tried a friend's G25 shifter, but like you, I found its action to be too light and it was hard to know exactly what gear I was in. Plus it felt delicate so I was afraid I'd break it. With my modified ACT Labs (plastic casing replaced by a stiff aluminum frame) I have none of these problems. A slotted plate on top of your shifter will make the action more defined and might make it "stiffer" in action. Maybe you can figure out how to make and attach such a plate. Or get an ACT Labs! :)

  • I think this sound is just right the GTR2 sound is bit too exaggerated.

  • R90909,

Do you mean the sound of the DBR9 in the recently released FIA GT 2006 mod for GTR2? Haven't got the mod yet so haven't heard the sound, but if it isn't good, that's a real disappointment. The sound in my GTR vid here is, I believe, the same sound that was used for the Lister Storm. The DBR9 was an add-on car so didn't have its own sound. In real life they sound somewhat different even though they both have big V12s. Check out onboard vids of the real cars to hear the difference.

  • I think the DBR9 in the FIA GT 2006 mod sounds pretty accurate IMO.

  • Thanks for the info, and that's good news. I look forward to getting the mod soon. Authentic-as-possible sounds are important for me because they heighten the feeling that one is really there in the cockpit.

  • dat seems fun wat game is it? like all the gear der

  • The PC sim is "GTR" by Simbin, and you can see the even better update, "GTR2", in my latest YouTube video "Porsche 996 GT3RS at Road Atlanta". The wheel is a Logitech Momo Racing, but it only comes with 2 plastic pedals, so I use the Speed 7 pedals from Ball Racing Developments in the UK. The shifter is an ACT Labs RS Shifter 2006 but modified by replacing the outer plastic casing with a much stiffer aluminum frame, giving it a more realistic and robust feel.

    Cheers!

    Chris

  • I think the best thing to do would be to send me a message by clicking first on "chrisobr" and then, under "connect with chrisobr" click on "send a message". Then we can discuss things at greater length than 500 characters at a time. :)

    Chris

  • I hope I'm not bothering you sir but, by the time I get RACE Pro on the Xbox 360, would you mind helping me set-up the cars to suit the different tracks? I personally know very little on tuning race cars so it would help a lot, and hopefully I will learn a few things. From what I have seen and heard of RACE Pro there will be a mixture of WTCC cars and GT cars. I watched your Road Atlanta video and I thought it was great, must be fun with the full 'set-up'...

  • If you like, when RACE Pro is released, i'll let you know what it's like. To see it for yourself in the search bar 'Race Pro E3 2008developer cam walkthrough' and please, of course, let me know of your opinion, cheers =D

  • BXBL,

It seems you haven't tried GTR2 yet, only GTR. I can highly recommend GTR2. I'm not sure what RACE is like, but even though made by the same company as GTR2, I don't think it's as highly regarded by serious simmers. Could be wrong, but anyway, GT cars are really more my thing, and although touring car racing can be very amusing (e.g. TOCA 2, my very first sim some years ago), I'll be sticking with the GT cars.

  • BXBL,

Forgot to mention that Simbin is soon to release "GTR Evolution", an update of Race that includes a lot of GTR2 stuff. There are several reviews of it on YouTube. Well worth a look, but it's PC only as far as I know.

My impression is that PC sims are better than console sims which are, in fact, more like games. I think it was Forza that didn't even have an in-car view. Amazing! Is it the same for Gran Turismo? The Race preview only showed the behind-the-car view. Not very realistic!

  • Stay on the pc sims because i can sort of tell you the difference in the 2 racing sims of Forza Motorsport 2 and GTR (with what i know of GTR). The driving part of Forza Motorsport 2 doesn't seem real whatsoever, for example, in the Audi R10 TDi on the Nurburgring Nordschleife at the Karussell, you can go round it in 3rd gear. my fastest lap in the diesel a 6:10.2 which doesn't seem possible. FM2 is also, i think, copying the Playstation sim Gran Turismo. For that reason, i want RACE Pro.

  • BXBL,

I've made some more recent GTR2 vids of me ln a Porsche RS at Road Atlanta and Donington. They're more sophisticated with a foot cam behind my feet. I make my videos to demonstrate to sim-racers that real racing techniques like heel-and-toe can be used with sims like GTR (and now GTR2) to make them much more than just another video game. I want as much realism as I can get (afford!) and driving like I do is so very satisfying. Like I said above, I'm really THERE! :)

    Cheers!

    Chris

  • I've also watched your Donington Park video (again, very impressive), but not the Road Atlanta video. I've been to Brands Hatch before to watch the DTM (and F3 Euroseries), it was an AWESOME experience, the music from the exhaust pipes were great. I normally watch a lot endurance racing, all because of Audi's R10 TDi. i would get GTR but i don't have the money to do so =(. I am getting Simbins RACE Pro for the Xbox 360 in November. What are your opinions on Diesel race cars Audi and Peugeot?

  • I think you'll enjoy my Road Atlanta vid, easily my best vid so far. I'm not familiar with Xbox as all my simming is on PC. As for the diesel cars, I think it's a good thing as they help to further develop the technology which helps save fuel. I'm very glad that Peugeot have arrived on the scene as it was getting boring watching Audi win everything with no real opposition. I'm more partial to the look of a closed prototype, and I figure they must be more comfy in the rain! :)

  • [BXBL, continuing from above] As for the tracks, I'm a road racer, and any track that mimics the real world (slow, medium and fast corners, hills, dips etc. like Brands, for example) is what it's all about for me. Obviously Europe has more such tracks, but Canada and the US have some good ones too, e.g. Mosport, Mont Tremblant, Road Atlanta, Laguna Seca, Lime Rock, Road America, Mid-Ohio, Virginia IR, Barber, etc. and even Sebring which is dead flat but a great track nonetheless. I love 'em all!

  • Thanks, BXBL. I would say that GTR2 is a great sim, especially with 3 pedals and a shifter (my personal bias on the latter). No sim is perfect, but I raced for real way back in the 70s (F3) and when I'm hard at it trying to get the perfect lap in testing or racing someone else online or even racing against GTR2's artificial intelligence, I'm THERE, just like back in the 70s. [See next post comment for more]

  • Hey, ive never played a single gtr before, closet ive been to a great racing sim was a £10,000 kit at the International Autosport Show at the Birmingham NEC Arena over a year ago (not sure what the game was)...what im really asking is what is gtr like with that race set-up? and what do think of European tracks compared to American tracks?

    By the way, great driving!

  • i love that set up bro! i envy you :)

  • Thanks, Biaggi (you must be a bike-racing fan!). My setup's not terribly expensive, and as you can see, it's quite home-made with the controllers attached to a wooden horse and wooden box. The pedals are the most expensive part but I reckon they're essential for realistic sim-racing. But then I'm seriously addicted to sim-racing and realism is my mantra. :)

    Cheers!

  • hey wat game is dis on cos i gt xbox 360 i wuld luv 2 no cos i wuld beat u lol im sure ure beta dan a 13 yr old even do i have wone 94 onlibe races on pgr lol ready 4 a challenge ill beat u lol nah im jke wat is disgame 4

  • Well Flubba, it ain't a "game" for me, it's a sim (simulation). I raced for real years ago and that's why I try to drive as realistically as I can. You would likely beat me easily, but I'll bet that you "drive" like a gamer (not a driver), that you play a lot of different video games, and aren't a die-hard motor racing fan. I love motor racing and don't play video games at all, so you probably wouldn't be interested in racing against me. By the way, the sim is "GTR2" and it's for PC only.

  • lol ok ive dun a bit of formula 3 about 3 yrs ago so ure in for a chance dere lol ty for da name of "simulation" lol du u have an xbox 360 if u do du u have forza motorsport 2 or pgr4 wich i wuld race u at

  • Sorry, Flubba, I've only got a PC. Since I'm not into gaming at all, not even racing "games", I'll likely never get an Xbox. I don't know much about Forza and PGR, but they seem to be mostly about racing tricked out road cars through city streets (which interests me not at all), although I believe it's possible to do a bit of simming with Forza. Hey, why don't you get a high-end PC? Then we could race and sort the men from the boys! Btw, did you do some real F3, or are you really only 13?

    Chris

  • wen i said r u beta dan a 13 yr old i meant mi cous nd yes i have don a bit o expireance chrisobr becaus i am 21 nd mi cous is 13 but i been training him wiv like how 2 go round a corner faster on da apex nd things like dat he sais 2 me 2 tell u he is getting the game and would luve 2 race u

  • Okay, let's keep in touch. You're in Britain or where (or should I say, ur in brtn or whr)? :) When your cousin gets GTR2, you and I should have a go as well (but you'll have to use a shifter and 3 pedals to make it fair. None of this sissy left-foot braking and flappy paddle shifting like those pampered F1 drivers! :~)

    Chris

  • alright chris ure on du u mind if i subscribe 2 u-------- ure laps r quick but im mi cous is getin da game in i think 2 weeks du u have msn so mi cous can add he said i need tips lol ok message me ures or ill give u his i am bying a g25 logitech wiv clutch pedal nd manual stick gear leaver will dat be ok

  • Flubba,

Just send me a message though "chrisobr".

    Chris

  • hey chris, You use first gear, ?

    When down changing.

  • Not at Brands. I've used it at Sebring in imitation of Leh Keen (search YouTube for Keen's onboard lap there in his GT3RS), and no doubt there are some other tracks where there is a corner slow enough to use first, but it's a rare occurrence, I reckon. Why do you ask?

  • MATE, Thnx for the reply, No worries i just thought you might have just slipped it into 1st, I thought of leh keen then i thought of you. So cool that you did it, BTW on Gran Turismo 4, Ive used first gear in the Ruf RGT on laguna seca.

Please do a video of you on sebring, That would be so cool.

    Thanx mate....

  • FTD,

I tried to do a Sebring vid but found a problem. For some reason the track's frames per second (fps) are very low, so when trying to capture onscreen video, the fps drop below 30, with poor video results. Too bad, as I was going to do 4 sections - daylight, sunset, dusk and full darkness which is amazing. Try turning out all the lights in the room while night-driving at Sebring. Very cool! Anyway, if I solve the fps problem, then I'll try the vid again. Thanks for the encouragement.:)

  • thats alright mate, But thnks anyway.

  • Translation by software!

    Cheers!

    Chris

  • Whith game ???

    you drive verry god

  • wots the longest uv been on this @ a tym

  • Many hours! When one is addicted like I am, the time seems to fly. My ambition is to do a 24-hour race with my neighbour as my co-driver. Sebring is coming up soon. A 12-hour race would be good practice for a try at a 24-hour race. :-)

    Chris

  • lol! go 4 it th@ wud be quality

u wud b abso. shattered @ the end tho!

  • lol! go 4 it th@ wud be quality

u wud b abso. shattered @ the end tho!

  • Might have to get a third or even fourth driver! Two-hour stints at the wheel are pretty standard for long-distance drivers. I think I could sim that okay, but not in real life with all the G-forces and heat. I'd love to give it a try, though. Can't figure out why Porsche hasn't given me a call yet. The ALMS season is just about to start! :)

  • what the fuck men you was bitten by the your own racing game . i would like to race you but im afraid im 2 good to you

PS. im the king of PGR 3 in xbox 360...etc

  • Well, good for you!

  • hu needsa dbr9/life wen you cn do th@ all day?

  • Exactly!

  • do u wear a helmet as well 2 get in the mood of it all?

  • Nope!

  • poco sovara to xei parei o tupas??

  • In English?

  • what game is that? looks like a wet dream

  • Hi Lespoop,

    It's better than a wet dream! :)

The sim (not game!) is GTR, superceded more than a year ago by GTR2 (see my other videos to see GTR2 in action). I've made my videos to demonstrate that real racing techniques can be used in sim-racing if the proper equipment (wheel, shifter and 3 pedals) is used. It's so much fun, fun, fun! Even serious motor racing fans can enjoy it.

    Cheers!

    Chris

  • My apologies. This sim looks like... somthing i have to have. im saving up for it now. i hop your happy making me want somthing more than to fix my beloved 928. hell it will be worth it.

  • Lespoop,

If you get a wheel, shifter and pedals, you won't be sorry i.e. don't try to sim-race with a keyboard. I raced for real way back in the '70s, I'm 62, and I'm having so much fun reliving my youth. In fact, I reckon I'm a better driver now than when I actually raced! So go sim-racing, practise a lot, and then you'll be able to drive that ol' 928 better than ever. :)

    Chris

  • nice gadgets . . .

  • I like 'em! :)

  • nice gloves lol

  • What is all your gadgets called and where from?? Spent a night with Colin (mcRae) before he died and he had a room with all this which was awesome, please reply,Regards

    Bobby

  • Bobby,

The PC sim is "GTR" by Simbin, and you can see the even better update, "GTR2", in my video "Chriso at Donington in Porsche GT3".

    Chris

  • so with all the gear put together, how much did it cost? This is the best setup ive ever seen

  • Rivelution,

I reckon it all cost me about $650, and it gives me all the sim essentials. Actually my setup is pretty crude compared to some folks who have not only more expensive equipment but also such things as 3 screens, a seat that simulates bumps and g-forces, and even a cockpit. One of the latest things is an actual hydraulic brake system to get more realistic braking. Great stuff! :)

    Chris

  • wow... I think I'd rather put that money into my first car, o well i guess im gunna have to deal with the xbox 360 racing wheel for now. Thanx :)

  • Well, you don't have to pay that much for a reasonable setup. My Logitech wheel comes with two plastic pedals, paddle shifters and a sequential shifter (which I have removed), and it costs "only" $160. The higher-end Logitech G25 ($350) comes with 3 metal pedals, paddleshifters and a six-speed shifter which can also be used for sequential shifting. It's all on their website. There might be other reasonably-priced wheel/pedal/shifter combos out there too, so don't give up! :)
