Michael Ryan was a gun enthusiast and it was not illegal to own such guns in the UK in1987. If I remember correctly, the events in Hungerford led to the introduction of tighter controls.
Sandra Hill was a good friend. Shortly before, a mix-up in our diabetic group left us alone in the wrong pub! As no one else came we just chatted all evening. I remember her telling me of her planned visit & how she liked Hungerford. She also suggested that I should go myself one day. Sadly it wasn’t until this year that I felt able & that was difficult. I thought watching the video would be a mistake but now at last I have somewhere to pay my respects as I don’t know what happened to her ashes.
Is it just me or does everyone think most of the actions and advice of the elders for the children fucking retarded as hell meaning run away from the police not knowing where the gunman is and also the government protection are not doing shit. I can only imagine what it would of been like if the two convicts from North Hollywood Shootout came and lit the place up dude it would be a 2man slaughter house like 2 people running a concentration camp.
May all those victims rest in peace and God bless them and their family, my son was a police officer here in the Uk, he left after 2 years, too much bullshit and paperwork, where were they ? this bloke should have been shot dead long before he went on his rampage
The reason the Americans have a team ready in every city is there are 10000 murders with guns each year as opposed to 40 in england. These teams would spend all day doing nothing.
Because he chose survival, Survival is the best choice, You'd have shat yourself and cried to mummy if that was you, besides where were the Armed Police??? Waiting for the order to go in........There was more than 50 Armed police idling in the street waiting for the "It's safe to go in lads." 10/10 to that soldier.
I can understand that guy diving into a garden and keeping low for a bit. But why did he not circle around Ryan upon hearing him distance, pick up a weapon of his own (not a gun obviously) and spring him? He would have saved alot.
@darkshadower790. Not if he had sneaked up on him unseen and cut his throat quickly from behind, via tracking him untill he was close enough to reasonably do it of course.
@toxic2k7 I was only thinking in the interest of everone elses saftey that got hurt. This man should have been taken down to save lives and Carl Harris was in a position to do that. Yet he fucked off the other way...... deee.....de....deee,... thats not my problem.....de....deeee....de....deeee, I am fully trained and could stop this guy, but deee....de.....de.....deee, fuck everyone else dying.....de......de.....deeee. What a shitten twat!!!
@darkshadower790. Ps I dont think I know better than him, all I am trying to say is he could have utillised his training better. Good luck to him, he did his best (although without true balls)
"well it was sometime before the firearms officers could get into the scene because we didnt know. We were getting reports of shots being fired, there were reports of....."
This doesnt make much sense but is he saying armed police were on the scene but made an operational decision NOT to go in and stop Ryan? If this is the case then the Police failed miserably to protect the public.
And I am the mad one for wanting a gun to protect myself and my family.
i know what im talking about here. they should be brought to account i have a limited experience of q.r.f duties but its always a priority to have the quickest reaction time possible even when training. its scandelous lives couldve been saved. the americans have the right idea. a team ready to go at all times in every city and county
but minutes would be better than hours. i dont think its reasonable to expect an armed response unit within 20 minutes at an almost rural location. especially with the u.k tying armed officers hands as they do
I think 20 minutes for an ARU to get to a rural location would be very impressive.
However, I dont want to dodge bullets for 20 minutes and for the state to create this situation under the false promise of wider public safety is evil.
The phone systems cant handle it, armed police are over 50 minutes away, it is illegal to have a gun for self defence and to add insult to injury the emergency services are not allowed in to help.
Your on your own and you are completely defenceless.
@thomascrowne612 Perhaps you didnt listen to the begining of the Documentary but firearms WERE LEGAL in the UK at the time of incident - this is the reason why semi-automatic weapons were banned in the UK. All of Ryans weapons were legally owned hence why they were banned.
That's how the plebs like it. God forbid anyone had overpowered this guy and harmed him, they'd have gotten jail time for sure. United Kingdom of Pleb Britain!!

If it's illegal to have guns for self defence what is this prick doing with two semi-automatics and a handgun?

Dramatatus, have you ever been confronted with an armed man? Ever even been around firearms being fired?
Carl Harris had and he decided against it.

Why were they taking a 50min journey to windsor instead of going to the Royal Berkshire Hospital or another close hospital?

Even the best response times are measured in minutes. This will be a lifetime for many.
For the state to force us to rely on them is immoral.
