  • 2:35 is how i look when i go pee

  • The solution for preventing the pipe from clogging is to let the downspout empty out onto a slanted grate where the flow will wash away the leaves, rather than plumbing it into the drain system. The outfall has to be clear and should ideally daylight to the curb to ensure that the pipe flows. Pop-up emitters get stuck and promote stagnant water, no real landscaper would ever install one. The black corrugated plastic pipe is cheap junk sold to homeowners, PVC or ABS is way better.

  • Do not try this at home folks! Not unless u want a wet basement! Lol

  • Actually, this is a much much more effective way to move water away from the foundation than traditional splash blocks placed under downspouts.

  • DO you get freezing temperatures where you are? I'd like to do something similar but wondering what happens during the transition periods in fall and spring when you can get rain that freezes in the pipe (plugging it) and/or melting snow that refreezes.

  • If you live in an area that experiences long periods of freezing weather with heavy precipitation, I would not recommend this application.

  • Thank you working on doing this to my own house and you have added in my research.

  • Wont that get clogged ??? it's like a toilet trap.. all the leaves and twigs are going to lay inside ,,,, nahhhhh I dont like it sorry

  • @ShananagansOnYou Keeping your gutters clean is critical if you use this system or not.

  • Yea I don't see the point in your drainage...what is it? 4 feet away from your house and you built the thing to collect water rather than drain it away...That thing is going to clog in a few years.

Also why did you screw the green vent down?? Those are meant to be closed under pressure...

  • What's with the GAY music ? LOL

  • That pipe is going to have standing water in it, I guess mosquitoes gotta breed somewhere.

Put a vertical tee at the end of the pipe. Upside put your drain on, downside dig a little deeper and fill with rocks.

  • Hey , Im looking for a solution that will allow me NOT to have to run drain tile about 50 feet to clear my foundation ( the back yard runs uphill slightly ) , will this solution work in cold weather climates ???

  • 1- the pipe under the ground should run further away from the house.

2- the pipe in the ground should be surrounded by gravel, to help disperse the water and to help dirt/soil from getting into the black pipe.

3- instead of the green open vent on the end of the black pipe, you can get a plastic cap that only opens or pops up under water pressure. This way water doesn't get in that way and water doesn't come out unless its raining really hard.

  • Hey, thanks for the input. However;

    1. The tubing only needs to run far enough away to get below grade, or in most cases, only a bit further than a splash block would.

    2. The pipe in the ground can sit directly in the soil, because it's not perforated. No holes, no dirt gets in.

    3. Green open vents allow water to flow unrestricted. The pop up types that you are referring to do not work well at all with any debris in the tubing, or in weather cold enough to allow water to turn slushy.

  • @HungryVermilingua

What if leaves and debris fall into the gutters? If will eventually clog the main drainage line underground, right?

  • The music is annoying on a how-to video, how about some narration?

  • good job guy, i was wondering if there is any code on how deep that black hose has to be

  • For best results, check with your local county extension office and find out what the recommended depth for irrigation/drainage lines should be for your area. Ideally you want to run the drain tile as far from the foundation and as far down-hill as possible. There are no Code regulations in my area.

Hope this helps, good luck with your project!

    Thanks for watching!

  • That was like 4 hours work loll... Also your drain seemed pointless why did you set it uo so it 1. collects water and 2. stores water... Are you on the Pot??

  • Thanks for watching!

  • my video title inspired by this one

  • I saw that, and I like your video!

  • You should note that this will not work in colder climates seeing the water in the pipe will freeze solid, then back up and pour down the foundation. I found out the hard way.

  • Ouch! Good idea. I will post that in the video information to the right. It is often relevant to how deep you are able to bury the tubing too.

    Thanks for watching!

  • Semper Drainage.

  • No matter what!

  • hmmm...do you need permission to dig in your city?

  • Nope. Not if it's under a certain depth and square footage. Some places are strange though. I think the largest concerns are buried utilities. We have a 1-800 number here that we call and they come and mark everything within three days for free!

Do you have to have a permit?

  • The City of Boston has a number called Dig Safe where your supposed to call before any digging (shovels, backhoes, etc.) I doubt I'll be doing any digging since I plan to move around when I turn 18, I just signed up as a DEP recruit for the USMC!

  • Congratulations on taking the first step into a much larger world! If you want any advise or have questions, you know where to find me!

  • Nice choice! The De Walt salzal is very good.

  • I love all of my DeWalt tools! But yes, a saws-all is a must!

  • No more puddles!!! YES!! Very nice job, again =]

  • I'm loving it! Thanks as always for watching!

  • good job alway seem to amaze me

  • Aw shucks! I'm lucky to have people who tune in for this stuff! I love the music!

  • Nice work as usuall buddy, we miss you at the station.(nice work flip flops, are those steel toed?)

  • Good to hear from you! I miss you guys too! Tried to find you on MySpace but I didn't see you.

Alas, no, them thar ain't no o-fficial O.S.H.A. regulated foot wears. I didn't think my tootsies were in too much danger just slapping some paint on the gutters.

  • hey is that the same house that you build a deck not that long ago?

  • I didn't think anyone would pick up on that. You must be pretty observant. I'm going to have to keep an eye on you!

    Thanks for checking it out!

  • hahahaha! u may be right, but u haven't answer my quiestion

  • he did. Its probally because you are not that observant. Like he said! Dumbass...

  • I'm pretty good at dodging questions too, I guess. But yes, it is the same house!

  • great job thanks for sennding me the video i like the song too

  • She's a great artist!

  • this could help after awhile. i like the song.

  • Hey thanks for checking it out!

  • Great job with the explanation and the instructions ... super filming and editing. And Leesha's beautiful music went well with this. :) You do the coolest videos....

  • If you hadn't sent me that video, I may have never heard that song! I love it, and want everyone to hear it! Thank you soooo much!

  • Awesome, nicely done. Maybe we can do that since we've had more than enough rain so far these past few months here in Oklahoma. Oh yeah, happy [late:( ] 4th!

  • Yeah it seems to have been a wet spring for much of the MidWest. It's really not that hard to do.

    Thanks for watching!

  • beautiful job. I wish i could do something like that around my house but there isn't a steep enough place to drain it from.

  • Thank buddy! Even if you can't go down hill, you may still benefit from moving the water as far away from your foundation as possible. Thanks for watching and for being such a loyal fan!

  • but wouldnt it just water puddle up in one spot?

  • It shouldn't be any worse than it is now, only it would be further away from the house!

  • Your right! I'm gonna check it out.

  • Well, we just got 5 inches of rain here a couple of days ago. Water was coming in through a basement window, so Thursday, I just installed a drainage line by it and ran it down our back hill about 25 ft. Hopefully that will work. Good video. Keem 'em coming!

  • Seems to have been a hell of a Spring and early Summer for most parts of the country. Al Gore may be on to something...

Hope you had (and are having) a great Independence Day!

  • gonna try this at home! thanks! great music!!!

  • Excellent!

  • Hey Steve,

Can I just HIRE YOU to do this at my house? If I tried to do it myself (or have Larry do it) I KNOW I'd f*** it up! Great informational video and LOVE Leesha Harvey!! Thanks!!

    Suze

  • I'd love to, but you would have to work through my wife, apparently she's my agent, and she says that I'm VERY expensive to hire. Especially when there are still projects to do around our house. Though somehow I doubt anyone wants to see a "how to clean the kitchen, wash the floors, and help with laundry" video. Oh well.

And yes, Leesha is incredible. Her latest video is further testimony of her songwriting prowess. That girl is going places...

  • Do you volunteer to do half the things you do, or is your wife making you? P.S. COMMUNISM.

  • It's probably about 50/50. I love working around the house, and she would rather travel. But it never fails, she has an ability to find things that need to be improved on.

  • Kewl video! I'm trying to figure out a way to deal with a spout I got that has a cement walkway under it. It's annoying and the cement is discolored in that area now.

  • Ouch, that's tricky. If there were any open ground between the foundation and walkway you could go under the walkway, but without that, you're looking at cutting through the walkway to get to the soil. Not impossible, but not much fun either. If you get it figured out, you could always power-wash the cement with water, dawn dish soap, and a mild bleach solution.

    How are the bunnies?

  • I might end up cutting the cement. It'd be nice to not have to worry about it anymore.

I got 9 more babies I rescued from a garage sale. They're growing up fast! Soon I can get them fixed and try and adopt them out. Cheers!

  • Who knew home improvement could be so much fun to watch! Now if only I could paint my house in 2 minutes, I'd be set! ;-)

Glad you were able to use my song!

  • You have no idea how grateful I am! You are so gifted and talented I wanted to do something to help promote your music. I wish you the absolute greatest of luck with your career and hope we can keep in touch.

    Thanks again for everything!

  • What's next? How to build an in-ground pool in five minutes?

LoL Just kidding, I love these videos, but it looks like you're running out of things to do around the house.

  • I guess these are really more about the music. But we're just getting warmed up. No project is too big or too small. We've got lots of projects planned, and if we can help people learn how to do the little things too, we'd be very excited!

Thanks for checking it out though!

  • No problem, I'll be looking foward to the next video.

  • Get a sneak peak! Check out the "Current Projects" page on our website!

  • The current projects section is blank.

  • Whoops! For some reason, it works on my computer, but I'm looking into it right now. Sorry about that!

  • Okay, should be good now. I need to be better about verifying my work on a separate computer.

    Have fun!

  • That (Classified) video looks sweet! Also, that was some really good (Spoiler Deleted) work on that other video!

I can't wait to see the finished products.

I hope you don't mind, I subscribed to the (Top Secret) channel.

I redacted myself! I had too much to drink!

    Happy Independence Day!

  • Thanks man, You're awesome!

    Happy Fourth!

  • Fine job gentlemen and one excellent choice of singers! Gotta love Leesha!

  • She's excellent! We are lucky to have such good company!
