@6detroitdiesel5 yeah my I6 can turn about 2500 just fine. but past that isn't worth it. i won't cruise past 2250. there's just no reason for it. our gearing is the same. although i may have a shorter first gear. most chevy's have a taller first with a 6.42 ratio. or something like that. my first is down in the 5's. it's really short. but i like it. it's easier to pull trailers with. but i only get to like 8 mph at 2200 rpm lol.

@6detroitdiesel5 yeah i'll give that to you. the auto's in the early dodges were disasters. the 97 5 speed dodges pulled as well as the 24v did. i think you would benefit from 3.73's tho. my 4.10's are great for towing. but it spins 2100 rpm at 70. so it's a little high.

@6detroitdiesel5 um dude, what are you talking about? my 97 dodge ram 3500 has an nv4500, np 241 transfer case, a dana 80 with 4.10's, and a 5.9 cummins. i'm sure your rig pulls pretty well, but have you ever pulled with a 5 speed cummins? cuz all the mid 90's chevy diesels i've driven didn't pull half as well as my cummins did when it was stock. if you're referring to the first and second gen dodges with autos i see your point tho. those were junk.

@jingelsby i seen a 1/2 ton ford with a 351 or 360 in it pull one,. it still had the 1/2 ton axle under it, the guy just blocked up the rear end so it didn't bottom any thing out,.. i will say tho,.. it did have a flat metal bed on it..(not sure if that kept things from binding or not)

@jingelsby We had a c60 dump truck with a 283 small block 2 barrol carb that could haul 16,000lbs of asphalt plus the 10,000lb weight of the truck no problem.This chevy suburban weighs about 6,000 lbs trailer weighs about 13,000 lbs so yes a 350 could have done it...
