@McMeevin Terrain mapping radars used in adequate numbers would destroy these sites. Radars are severely limited by the horizon, you can't see under the horizon, can you? So when using them en mass, the sites wouldn't have enough available missiles to destroy the attack & couldn't move in time as well. Weapons that can do this are the Tomahawk & AGM-86. The US has 1,140 AGM-86's & over 3,500 Tomahawks. A total of 4,640 missiles, this also isn't including the many JASSM's & JSOW's

@robotnikkkk Not true. The curvature of the Earth limits ground based SAM's. You can't see under the horizon. These SAM sites are 100% vulnerable to saturation strikes with missiles that use terrain mapping radar, like the AGM-86. Also, most ground attack missile's ranges are even outside of S-400 ranges. So saturation strikes can/would destroy these sites.

But it doesn't matter. The Pantsir only has a certain amount of missiles. Each has 12 missiles. If you launch a strike of cruise missiles that completely outnumber the batteries, like a saturation strike, then you can overwhelm it.

Of course the Pantsir is designed to destroy cruise missiles, but every system has it's limit.

The Pantsir has a range of 20 km with it's missiles. You absolutely wouldn't have enough time to reload them. It doesn't matter how many Pantsir's you have, they still have their breaking point. And the guns on them could only stop a small amount of missiles.

The US also converted 4 Ohio Class submarines to carry 154 Tomahawks each. That's 616 Tomahawks in all. Plenty of enough.

You could also use many ships & submarines & aircraft in general to launch joint strikes. It's fully possible.

But the need to stop that isn't so great. Only the US is capable of doing it & the odds of them going to war now is small.

@robotnikkkk As for bombing in general, the S-300 cannot detect targets of a certain RCS. It wasn't designed to do it. So the F-22 & B-2 would be quite effective in bombing these targets. Along with the F-35, X-47B, & Phantom Ray. The S-400 can detect these aircraft to a certain extent (60 km for the F-22) but that is limited & the S-400 is only used by Russia & in small numbers.

@raghvendra76 The same thing could be said about modern American equipment, or all equipment in general. The main reason you see so much Russian (actually Soviet) equipment is because they downgraded many of their weapons (see Monkey Models) and sold them for dirt cheap.

And to be honest, history has show that more advanced systems matched with the proper training, has always defeated any enemy. Except in maybe some extreme circumstances.

@raghvendra76 Actually, the 30mm rounds used by the Apache are very cheap. What isn't economical is when sometimes they have to use a Hellfire to destroy a technical. But winning battles and wars is more important.

Well that is true, but if you drink enough water you can die from that... Having modern weapons like the Pantsir and other systems is very important. But the Apache has excellent ECM and it's mast mounted radar allows it to be mostly hidden.

the best short range sam there is, basically, concerning technology and range/operational altitude of the system (and the missile). trouble is the missile itself, though, it has a booster but rapidly looses speed over time. don't know if that's a problem when battling very agile or fast targets. without doubt, it's no good against ballistic missiles, but it was not made for this task anyway. multi band frequenzy or whatever it's called, take that israel! in your zionist face!
