  • For human turn the tempo down to 80 and play it

  • haha finally someone speaks their mind in a reveiw thanks

  • Hey can you do a video on song mode?

  • Great review! I have to cosign with you on the patterns, ya'll know they aren't gonna give away hot patterns. And I would only use about half of those raw samples as is. A friend of mine bought this and asked me if I could find out a way to export a pattern and I saw no way to do this (except for maybe in song mode).

  • It's not a bad little box. You'll def have to dig into the kit editing to squeeze the most out of it too. Beat Kangz new box will be loaded with hot patterns though.

  • Comment removed

  • yeah the "Kangs" really half-assed it with the patterns. At least the raw samples are good.

  • Ain't that the truth! Great samples.., but poor quality in the patterns. The Kangz new kit is going to be hot though. That new "Beat Thang" is crazy!

  • 3 and 4 is g-unit's song. smh

i don't like the samples at all.

  • ruthless reviewer, but at the end of the line i think Beatkangz might have picked up some of the criticism. specially with their new project in mind.

  • Yeah.., I was a little harsh on them for some of the cheese put in this machine. However.., the drum machine is really a good bargain. The preset beats are extremely poor IMO.., but you get a good set of samples that can be edited to some degree. Their new box (Beat Thang) is going to really get some attention and turn a few heads.

  • I think so too, hope you do a video on that machine too. Your review is exellent and I could see you doing it at a pro level it was entertaining and (the tempo issue is not your fault really) it was a very informative walkthrough. As a consumer you dont always need to agree with everything the reviewer says but learn how he thinks and then make up your own mind.

  • I'd love to get their new box coming out.., but that puppy is going to be a cool grand to purchase! I'm more tempted to get the software version that sells for only $150 :) I really do like my Streetboxx though. A lot of good sounds in there and it's very easy to use.

  • Some of the bass samples have a decent synth sound. But still seems kinda basic. Are there any arpegiator functions? Also filters, effects, etc?

  • Nope.., no arps, no filters, or any real synth parameters.

  • You can simulate an Arpeggio with the Step/Repeat button.

  • You're correct..., in one of my old Streetboxx vids..., I think I actually show how I used the repeat to do this to the bass track.

  • boing = cheech n chong cruisin down the street. xD

  • gorilla is one of the best patterns,,,,,

    TURN THE TEMPO DOWN

    WAY TO FAST

  • I agree.., but I was showing the SB (out of the box). Default tempo is 100. Many of the patterns sound better once you slow them down. You shouldn't have to do that though..., the presets should have varying tempos.

  • yeah it kind of sucks that you can only have one tempo

  • Yeah that's a bummer..., but the Streetboxx is a darn good drum machine IMO. I crack a few jokes about it in the reviews.., but in all honesty I love my Streetboxx and wouldn't even think of getting rid of it. For the price it literally offers a lot of BANG for the buck.

  • why do have the tempo so fast

    no one raps that fast

  • I have the tempo set to "default" so that those who see the vid will get see/hear it out of the box. You can of couse ajdust the tempo :)

  • it sounds way better slower

  • Yeah.., many patterns do sound better once you slow the tempo a bit. Some however are a bit of cheese :) Still the StreetBoxx can't be beat for the price. It's still IMO the best and most affordable hardware beatbox on the market right now. It's Zoom's biggest selling drum machine too. The onboard bass/synth patches aren't any good.., but the drum samples are quite good. Really nice claps.., and some killer kicks too. Plus you can edit and tweek kits :)

  • I know sam ash sold alot

  • The best thing to do with one of these is make seperate loops onto a boss rc50 or roland sp 404 and thicken up the sound with various layered beats, this sorts out the time issues.

  • watch?v=4FUOCbyOw6E

Smoked out of their minds indeed, lol.

  • you should make another video going into the recording. by the way good review

  • Thanks! I actually do have two vids up showing me recording with it. One shows me recording a pattern and the other vid shows me editing a preset kit and using those changes in a recorded beat.

  • Was excited when I first bought my Streetboxx, but over time you start to find weaknesses e.g. the fact that the internal tempo is VERY poor.

When you sequence a pattern & load it to any software (Cubase, Logic etc) every pattern quickly slips out of sync, no matter how accurately you try & match the tempo :-(

Quality products like (Boss, Roland, Akai) keep 100% perfect timing

A lot of the streetboxx sounds are bad-ass, but with poor tempo & NO MUTE function?!?!

It's an amature's toy at best.

  • Yeah..., it does have its limitations, but for the money and compared to what's out there (in this price range) it really is a good bargain. I do agree with you on the tempo issue too. I sometimes have problems with the SB going out of sync with one of my synths.

  • yeah I was also wanting to know if you could use sounds from different kits on the same song on the SB-246

  • If you have time could you do a video on how to sequence, layer sounds from different kits and use them on the same song and make a beat from start ot finish on the SB-246 it would benefit me greatly as I am a beginner to beatmaking.

  • Yeah..., I can do that. When you say layer sounds from different kits..., are you wanting me to show how you can create and edit a user kit with the preset samples? I can do a variations of one beat and show you how to chain those in a song..., or even assign entire beats to the pads.

  • can you mute the other instruments so you can only hear the drums?

  • If you mean by muting the bass track then the answer is yes. The maching has both a drum and bass track. There is a button on the panel for the sole purpose of muting the bass track. You can assign entire patterns to individual pads for live triggering. This way you can have multiple variations of one pattern at one time. One pad can have the entire drum/bass pattern, the next could be the same pattern minus the bass and hi-hat part. I'm sure you're getting the picture :)

  • is this worth buying?

  • YES! It's worth every penny. There is no other hip hop drum machine on the market that even competes with the SB-246 in this price range. It's not designed to perform like a top end MPC, but functions perfectly as a budget beat box.., which is exactly what it is.....

  • thank you...also i would to know

    is it a MIDI?

  • It has a midi in jack.., so you can control it from something like a midi keyboard for example.

  • really?..hmmm so if have a (just random) akai midi key board or any brand....i can connect them together?

  • Yes.., you sure can :) You could even have a cheapo Casio keyboard. As long as the keyboard has midi jacks you're good :)

  • thank you for the information!

im gonna buy this for 120$

  • Turn your tempo down on some of those patterns and watch as they change into something a little useable.

    I suggest 88-90 bpms .

LOL your review is honost and enjoyable.

But playing those patterns at 100-120 is funny as hell.

  • Trust me..., I know about turning the tempo down. Even then some of those presets are a joke. I wanted to show what this thing sounds like (out of box). It's actually a really good drum machine. The preset patterns are just quite poor. The power in this drum machine is making your own :) The default tempo on some patterns is in fact too fast. I'm gonna post another vid showing more presets with slower tempos and how to record on the thing.

  • Cool, I have one. Watching your vid made me dust mine off and go over some of my patterns and songs.

Most of mine are 88-96 tempo patterns.

I have some on YouTube if you want to check'em out!

  • Me too man...., I do a lot of my patterns at the same tempos you use :) Every so often I'll jump one up to 105 if I'm doing a jam with a middle-eastern twist to it. I'll check out your vids......

  • Thanks, post some of yours too for us to check out.

There is only a few of us on here who post vids of the SB-246 so we all like to hear other peoples patterns and techniques.

  • Good video I'm a beginner at beat making and I was thinking of purchashing one of those. I wanna see more of what this thing can do and I wanna see if this thing has quality sounds.

  • Glad you liked it! I've gotten enough requests for it now..., so I'll be posting a video showing more presets, how to record with it, and a few other things.
