10 years ago today was George's last full day on this planet, I'm choking up now just thinking of how he shaped me musically as a human being, and not just me but millions upon millions of people. rip George,
@MPDCSCOUT135 They weren't forced to live in the shadow of two egomaniacs. They were priviledged to do so. It made them quite a lot of fame and fortune. You didnt hear them complaining about it much until the "egomaniacs" decided to call it quit. George was good but he was no saint...he cheated on all of his wives and famously slept with Ringo's wife Maureen WITHOUT the consent of Ringo. He was the third most talented member of the Beatles and the "egomaniacs" made him a fortune.
@hotajax dude, it's not like George didn't admit these things: Try reading his book "I, Me, Mine" before you accuses me of "ripping" him. I liked George but he was no saint and he would be the first to admit it. What do you think "Living in the material world" is about. BTW: Did you not just rip John posthumously,eh?
@junaid1 I don't see cheating as a big deal at all. The religious make it a very big deal. But I see it as a non-issue. If you're cheating, that means you're not meant to be with whoever it is you're with anyway, so it's ultimately for the best. Besides, MOST people who aren't cheating WOULD cheat if the right opportunity presented itself (i.e. you find a supermodel naked in your bed). Rock stars have options.
If cheating is the worst thing George ever did, he's still a hell of a great guy.
@superman11978 I agree with everything you said and I really like George a lot. I was just pissed off that the first guy deified him saying he lived this perfect scandal free life and that Paul and John were egomaniacs. I'm not trying to knock George. His contribution to MUSIC is incredible. It just pisses me off that some people can only love one Beatle and have to trash the others.
how do we make sense of the Earth and the phenomena of music; although George has now past on he still has the power and magic to put a tear in my eye

Someone else said this is the best off all the versions he heard. It's from the studio album, "All Things Must Pass". Hats off to the person who put the pics together. Very nice job, gives George the dignity he deserves
Beautifully worded.. It's always bothered me that I missed out on a time as glorious as that- by 3 bloody decades. Just listening to the music from back then, I really have to agree.. That was a time when music flourished, and it's something we'll never get to see again. It's miserable, but I'm thankful for the music they left behind, and I'm glad my father lived and experienced it, and continues to share it with me.
George is also my favorite beatle. "If Not For You" is an absolutely beautiful love song and always brings a lump to my throat. I agree with MrRonnieG the 60s were a unique time in our history. I was 18 in 1964 and found the Beatles music and lyrics opened a door to a universe I sought but had no idea existed. George had a spiritual appreciation that he wasn't afraid to express. What a unique man.
It's worth being as old as I am now to have had the joy and privilege to have been the right age to appreciate everything that was the Beatles, Bob Dylan, the other great British Invasion and American rock bands that made 1960's the best of years. And really, The Beatles were and still are the best rock band ever. They did it all.

Wow Mr. Ronnie...I was about 6 when they first on Sullivan. I was absolutely transfixed. Yes...the 60s were quite dynamic. Lots of tradgedy, but hope too. The embrace of all things intellectual...20 yrs before the 80 ushered in anti-intellectualism...
@jimmychipper I too was six yrs. old when they appeared on Ed Sullivan. It was an unbelievable time to grow up in. And in reading your comment, it right away brings to mind the "High water mark" quote by Hunter.S. Thompson.
A few things that stuck out about the Beatles when I was a kid, the most vivid, the neighbor kids next door were getting ready to go to a Beatles concert in Richmond, VA maybe '65 or '66, we live on a navy base in Norfolk, VA for them it was madness, because it was all we herd and they were right next door, I was maybe 6, but it was very clear and stood out.
"Ringo" fans.... In honor of Ringo's 70th, I hope U will check out my "RINGO"video. It's very retro with Beatleish touches & was done as a labor of love and with the utmost respect for the Fabs. My attempt at putting a little bit of the Beatle spirit out there for Beatle fans. It's also my tribute to George Harrison's slide playing as well as Ringo's unique style.
Oh my god. I nearly cried. This song is so beautiful and the video was marvelous, especially the end. May God put peace upon George Harrison. He will live on through our hearts. R.I.P
there is a session on bob dylan singing this and george harrison playin lead on this song on bob dylan the bootleg series the same guitar lick but slower
If you listen to both versions, the original by Dylan and Harrison's, you can hear Buddy Holly! It's like a combination of Everyday and Words of Love.
One of my favorite songs. Much better by Harrison than Dylan. What an amazing artist George was. I am sure he is playing still. All things must pass but until I do, I will be listening to George (and John, Paul and Ringo too!).
@musicjunky713 i was born in 82 so i grew up listening to the last of the good artist.... i think the music scene started dying around mid 90's. nothing is good anymore. its all about flashy people. I know the good stuff will come back. just gotta wait lil buddy.
Bob Dylan was a fantastic song writer, however he was a hack musician and a terrible singer, any Dylan song I've ever heard a cover to was better than the dylan version (Hendrix, Harrison, ect.) George was my fav Beatle as well, R.I.P. George, John
Sorry, my mistake. I knew there was a Harrison/Dylan song on All Things Must Pass, but it's not this one - it's the first track, 'I'd Have You Anythime'.
I am a musician (play piano, guitar, drums and trombone) and I was around when I heard Dylan say in a radio interview that he could care less about his fan's, he's an "Artist" and he does music as an artistic expression, he completely lost me as a fan instantly, most people will gladly kiss his ass, I on the other hand would rather kick it!
His version of Knockin' On Heavan's Door is still better than Gun's'N'Roses version, but he is still a hack musician, I "DO" know what I am saying!
Dylan's an elitist old prick - surprise surprise!!!! And a typical hypocrite baby boomer, righ-wing kook, whose generation while protesting the old in the 60's, is raping mine now. I still like alot of his music though.
@heyzog righ wing? I assume you mean right wing. And evidently you've never listened to Dylan because he was as far from right wing as you can get. Idiot.
@chocomog35 You obviously didn't read what I wrote. Yes he did protest the old, and leaned to the left when he was younger. However now he is an old conservative rich dude, who gives shitty performances to his fans when he does tour (doesn't even face the audience half the time), and is therefore a huge hypocrite! But I still listen to his older tunes when he was real.
@heyzog You do realize Bob Dylan has been on the "Never Ending Tour" since 1988, playing over 100 shows a year all over the world? And he supported Obama in the 2008 election? Maybe you should just stop talking.
@Mytoob69 You must remember that Dylan hated his fans for various reasons, breaking into his house, worshiping him as a God & as the 'Voice of a Generation', both titles he vehemently hated & rejected. Just because a man has insane talent does not mean he is thus duly entitled to be a whore for people who enjoy his artistic endeavours.
69,dude youre shameless for slapping that musician comment on your last message.Look i dont consider myself a Dylan fan,so i could care less about what the fuck he thinks, does, or says. But that hacky voice, simple chords, and that half assed harmonics, broke through to me, stirring all sorts of feelings. Apparantly im not the only one, from what i have heard, even known musicians like Hendrix spent his last few bucks to buy Dylan records.not trying to convince u of anything, cant relate dont hate.
@Mytoob69 Dylan wrote Knockin on Heaven's Door, so everyone else is version of him. And Im sure your flatpicking and acoustic guitar skills put Dylan's to shame and thats why youre calling him a hack. Hes such a hack on the harmonica too. You sound stupid bringing up Guns N Roses on this message board. Maybe if you appreciated something other than Slash you would realize that Dylan defined folk guitar for all artists that followed.
I was 16 when they appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show in February of 1964. How lucky I am to have lived thru the era of the Beatles AND the solo careers of George, Paul, John and Ringo. The 60's were an experience folks; the music, the friends, the war, the politics ~ good and bad, it was something special to have been a part of. If you weren't there, you missed something quite special. Honestly.
@MrRonnieG Thankfully , the music is still there to enjoy for those of us who were not there .Even though I was not born til the early 70's , the music and culture of the 60's has had a profound impact on my entire life . RIP George
@MrRonnieG yeah yeah that's what everyone says about their era growing up ;) try the magic of antony and the johnsons and josé gonzales for some new magic - GREAT SONG though!!! (and yeah dylan did it better)
INDEED, indeed, Mr. ...I was the same age as you at that time and I can only remember those years with a very special reverance...the music, the musicians, the youth activity, the changes - that time will always stand in history as the time of involvement. The youth seem so removed today of what is happening in the world. I wish that my nostalgic memories of that era would surface once more in my lifetime.
@CC4Ryder I could not agree more. Those where indeed very special times and what I find sad is the as much as I enjoyed them, I didn't know how great they were at the time. What happened that, as you put it, so many are so removed? I don't know. Perhaps we need the real leaders and not the money backed media driven corporate hustlers that make us believe in them then sell out. I don't know but I miss the real thing. That's just my opinion.
this is a most beautiful song. it speaks of a great need for another's love which is very familiar it rings very true. and the childlike openess about an admission of a great need for another human is touching in ways i can't begin to describe
Yea. Its sad how little respect he received when he was a Beatle. Not just from the other members of The Beatles (mainly John and Paul), but from other musicians of the time. Frank Sinatra once said about "Something", (One of George's finest compositions) "He thought Paul McCartney did a great job writing the song" Sinatra died before he ever knew George had wrote the song...
yeah he was very underrated.if paul and john hade let him reliece some of his songs they would of been more succesful than they where in 68 the year he finished songs like all things must pass.the best song from the last few years for me was something.
Bob's version makes me happy. It's very mood lifting and you get that feeling of love's euphoria, and of the light shinning through your beloved. George's is sweet, but this will always be Bob's song.
i've always preferred john's solo work for the writing, i didn't care for wings at ALL... ringo's all star band was alright but i don't really consider it a solo project, george harrison's solo career on the other hand is very well done, musically playing wise he's sooooooo fucking talented, but i find his stuff to be too preachy or lacking in some area, boy plays a mean slide
Definitely a good song but for all you saying that you love George don't forget to give credit where credit is due, his interpretation is great but this is a Dylan song first and foremost
Well the two interpretations are so different that they almost aren't really even the same song.
Of course its Bob's song but his version is almost circus like and irreverent. The production value is light and cheesy. While George's is very heart-rending and touching. With a lush high quality production and George's outstanding guitar work. Gotta disagree on this one, even tough Bob wrote it, this is George's song now.
10 years ago today was George's last full day on this planet, I'm choking up now just thinking of how he shaped me musically as a human being, and not just me but millions upon millions of people. rip George,

Do You?

Dylan's an elitist old prick - surprise surprise!!!! And a typical hypocrite baby boomer, righ-wing kook, whose generation while protesting the old in the 60's, is raping mine now. I still like alot of his music though.
heyzog 1 year ago
@heyzog righ wing? I assume you mean right wing. And evidently you've never listened to Dylan because he was as far from right wing as you can get. Idiot.
chocomog35 1 year ago
@chocomog35 You obviously didn't read what I wrote. Yes he did protest the old, and leaned to the left when he was younger. However now he is an old conservative rich dude, who gives shitty performances to his fans when he does tour (doesn't even face the audience half the time), and is therefore a huge hypocrite! But I still listen to his older tunes when he was real.
heyzog 1 year ago
@heyzog You do realize Bob Dylan has been on the "Never Ending Tour" since 1988, playing over 100 shows a year all over the world? And he supported Obama in the 2008 election? Maybe you should just stop talking.
TomThumbsBlues61 1 year ago
@TomThumbsBlues61 supporting Obama is not something to be proud of, he is incompetent!!
Vambo1958 1 year ago
@Mytoob69 You must remember that Dylan hated his fans for various reasons, breaking into his house, worshiping him as a God & as the 'Voice of a Generation', both titles he vehemently hated & rejected. Just because a man has insane talent does not mean he is thus duly entitled to be a whore for people who enjoy his artistic endeavours.
chocomog35 1 year ago
69,dude youre shameless for slapping that musician comment on your last message.Look i dont consider myself a Dylan fan,so i could care less about what the fuck he thinks, does, or says. But that hacky voice, simple chords, and that half assed harmonics, broke through to me, stirring all sorts of feelings. Apparantly im not the only one, from what i have heard, even known musicians like Hendrix spent his last few bucks to buy Dylan records.not trying to convince u of anything, cant relate dont hate.
SexingtonSpartan 1 year ago

Honestly.

@MrRonnieG
CC4Ryder 1 year ago
@CC4Ryder I could not agree more. Those where indeed very special times and what I find sad is the as much as I enjoyed them, I didn't know how great they were at the time. What happened that, as you put it, so many are so removed? I don't know. Perhaps we need the real leaders and not the money backed media driven corporate hustlers that make us believe in them then sell out. I don't know but I miss the real thing. That's just my opinion.

PeaceTheBeatles 2 years ago
yeah he was very underrated.if paul and john hade let him reliece some of his songs they would of been more succesful than they where in 68 the year he finished songs like all things must pass.the best song from the last few years for me was something.

Bob's version makes me happy. It's very mood lifting and you get that feeling of love's euphoria, and of the light shinning through your beloved. George's is sweet, but this will always be Bob's song.
lovesupreme8 2 years ago
i've always preferred john's solo work for the writing, i didn't care for wings at ALL... ringo's all star band was alright but i don't really consider it a solo project, george harrison's solo career on the other hand is very well done, musically playing wise he's sooooooo fucking talented, but i find his stuff to be too preachy or lacking in some area, boy plays a mean slide
great dylan cover though
RIP harrison and lennonon

Dylan is much more preachy than George. They both rock.

789pequignot 2 years ago 3
Definitely a good song but for all you saying that you love George don't forget to give credit where credit is due, his interpretation is great but this is a Dylan song first and foremost
MrDsmalls 2 years ago 7
Correct. Also covered by Olivia Newton John who grabbed the slide guitar from George.
chicagoish 2 years ago 2
Well the two interpretations are so different that they almost aren't really even the same song.
Of course its Bob's song but his version is almost circus like and irreverent. The production value is light and cheesy. While George's is very heart-rending and touching. With a lush high quality production and George's outstanding guitar work. Gotta disagree on this one, even tough Bob wrote it, this is George's song now.
