Hi, I just got my hair "CHOPPED"...She cut the bottom layers very thin and my hair looks like she took off about 3 inches, its not 100% terrible, however, I was wondering if you have any tips how to cut it myself to where it does not look so square and the bottom layer looks longer than the rest..?? Any ideas would be appriciated, thank you!...

Hate to burst your bubble guys, but the people commenting that this method will screw up your hair... yeah, right. Any method will screw up your hair if you don't take your time, cut off way too much to start, etc. so don't blame her or her method because it didn't come out like you wanted.

I did this a while back and while I wasn't brave enough to do the whole head, I loved this technique for my bangs and face-framing pieces =)

The hair at the bottom look like extensions, im sure its her real hair but it should have blended properly and shouldnt look like extensions!

When layering you have to blend it and not cut randomly.

@XXbritnicholeXX well if you cut your hair while straightened it will curl up later and not look right after your first wash, if something looks good straight it doesn't mean it will when you wear your hair naturally, the best thing to do is not style your hair before cutting it.

@TheKingdomlight actually most hair dressers will wet your hair and when curly hair is wet its tends to be rather straight... thus straightening your hair you will give the same effect and for someone who is new to cutting there own hair being able to see all your layers on your dry straight hair will actually help to get your cut how you want it.... something I know from experience...

@TheFrayFanFE cut your hair dry or damp but keep in mind that when cutting while wet, it may be easy to separate but your hair will also "shrink" when it dry's if your not good at cutting hair or if your a beginner cut your hair dry, but remember that you should only cut a little at a time, DO NOT STRAIGHTEN YOUR HAIR BEFORE YOU CUT, it may look good then but after washing it, it wont look good, keep in mind how thick your hair is and the shape of your face.

I LOVE your hair! I am licensed to cut hair, and I could ever cut it this way, hard to cut your own hair. I am getting mine cut this way, but I'm having someone do it probably with a razor. I only pay 15.00 to get my haircut so it won't break me. I also have curly hair, not stick straight hair so it's different, but if I straighten it, I hope it looks as good as yours. Good job!

I got my hair layered once and I got 3/4 layers in my hair, since my is meduim it's fits my look perfect, I got layers at top, middle,bottom, and honestly I got it done by Walmart for $20 so I honestly think if you messed up your layers you would have to re-grow your hair, so go to walmart, or local salon! And scissor you chop chop chop really? just say cut, but that's my opion!

Save yourself the trouble and regret and get it done professionally. If it's too expensive for you, wait out a few months and then go get it done. Her hair looks pretty the way she did it, but it is uneven. She has a lot of hair, but it looks fine and that is probably why it looks good when she did it. This is helpful, but if you don't have thin hair I wouldn't recommend it. And her hair is blonde w/ highlights, making the overall look nice (accentuating certain areas). Be cautious! :)

First off, thanks so much for making this. I find ur steps helpful/relatively easy to follow. I have two questions. 1) when you say "go down" doing the "chop, chop, chop" of a strip that u already shortened, u mean hold the scissors at a diagonal and keep cutting in small clips til that strip's been shortened, right? 2) For the "bangs", in order to get them looking like yours do in this video, do you take the from chunk of hair, hold it to the side, and then cut downward in a diagonal direction?

You should probably have a professional fix your hair and stop giving advice. Your layers are very uneven and you have what we call a "hole" in your hair. Meaning, you didn't leave out the half inch to inch section above the ear which creates a very ugly gap in your hair. Getting your hair cut is not expensive unless you go to an expensive salon. Getting your hair washed, cut and dried only costs $8.00 where I work. Twisting your hair isn't what's giving you layers, it's the way you held it.

@Pathrissia you don't let go of the locks just keep it twisted and just try to do it in a straight line or slightly in different places but don't be exaggerated that one cut is really high and one is really low... :/ I hope it helped :) but it doesn't really matter because it's still gonna look layered :)
