  • did you really eat that out of Harwell?!?!? ICK!

  • 8.5 out of 10

  • I must repeat what the last poster said.......I stop following after the butchering of the fillets started....wasteful.

  • I was following you up to the part where you start butchering the fillets....so wasteful

  • 8lbs start out and finish with less than a lb...

  • You shouldnt just saw through the meat. If the blade is nice and sharp it should do all the work for you.

  • i just cleaned 30 stripers about a month ago.. it was really hard to not puncture the belly. nice work

  • Delete this video, you really embarrassed yourself with that amateur fillet job. What a bloody mess unfit for a dog. Probably wouldn't feed a dog either, you got no meat left after that hack job.

  • Great job nice fish

  • i have a question, when filleting the striper, after cutting off the skin/ scale area, around 3:00, what is the part that you are cutting out that looks like skin with an arrows design and is it edible? sorry for the questions, i just got into striper fishing and im not so used to it :D

  • Even a hack like my old man does a better job...faster and waste less meat...of course he says I'm too slow, but I get all the meat on the fillet and leave almost none on the bones. Since I won't eat factory farmed animals, I try not to waste the animals I will eat. And yes, my mom always removes the 'fishy' red meat and any parasites near the stomach. The cheeks are great, but I feed the carcass to the crabs.

  • rnt u ment to cut belly side? the guts are intact there and you can just yank the stuff out?

  • creepy filleting music FTW!

  • Great video,( Agreed..."best tasting fish out there!" ) soft and light, very flaky. Great breaded or not, add lemon juice and tartar sauce with horseradish. I could live on it. Thanks again for the video..

  • Any fish that you catch and you want perfect fillets. The best thing to do is bleed the fish. By doing so the fillets will not have any blood stain at all. If you don't bleed them the side that is face down will be bloody. The dark meat that he removed is were the fish store their body fats. Which is actually good for you because this is were you will find your greats concentrations of Omega oils.

  • Now do a human

  • Have a clean bucket of cool fresh water, and keep the meat in the water when its not being Butchered. I also try to filet a live fish. these steps will keep the meat premium! waste not want not.

  • Lake hartwell <3 Home Town :)

  • ha! people who cut off the dark meat waste so much these people arent real fish eaters the best part is the cheek and the dark meat

  • agreed--8 pounds down to 1.5 pounds in a matter of minutes.

  • But the dark meat tastes fishy man! I just cant stomach it. You feel me?

  • sometimes you just gotta man up and take it like a wild animal, what doesnt kill you makes you even more of a man haha

  • Yeah. But have you tried to eat the dark meat of a 10lb bluefish? I mean, thats like special tactical unit survival training right there. Yuck!

  • blue dark meat and striped bass dark meat are completely different. as bizzar as that sounds its true. bluefish are oily fish while striper are pure.

  • @jaceyin

I dare you to eat dark meat off Bluefish. No one can bare that!

  • dude! that's some spooky ass music u got for the video! ooooh... chilly here!

  • I think this guy should be one some government register, there is a touch of hannibal lector about him....

Seems to really take pride in his work, thorough.

  • Beautifully executed, Bravo!

  • Beautiful. You now i learned to do anything to a fish when i was 6 now im 15 and im working on the back of my uncles boat cleaning peoples fish. I love it its great. nice striper by the way

  • Nice, i just filleted a 19 pounder yesterday, caught it on half of a mackerel.

  • haha, beautiful music along with beautiful carnage, i love it

  • Some fish-cutting music, please...

  • you don't want to cook striped bass with the red meat on it that is why a lot of people say they don't like Striper they cooked it with the red meat

  • hes not wasting any meat you would want to eat .he is simply removing the nasty nast metalblood and making it safer for consumption.

  • in his defense this is a striped bass {a fresh water fish not from the sea} no meat was wasted he did a fine job, and the fish is large and has obviously been dead and rigor mortis has set in so this is about the best anyone could do under theese circumstances

  • thanks for the 'how-to'. I needed it.

My sea bass didn't come out as nice but they are pretty small and I'm not using the right knife.

  • make steaks chop chop

  • Too much wasted meat.

Like any fish, you remove the head first, then work on removing the skeleton.

  • a decent job...technically all wrong...cutting towards yourself...going through while doing the tail section way too early...and while skinning the filet way too much knife work...use a better knife and pull the skin more than you move the knife...left kind of a lot of meat on the bones...but ive surely seen worse

  • best tasting fish out there! i just clean em and remove the head and pan fry them with bread crumbs!.... im hungry!

  • i do too. Nothing taistes better!

  • >,> no meat wasted or anything lol

  • thats how my mom makes it for me, or broils it.

  • when i catch sea bass on the northern oregon coast, the captain makes us bleed out the bass. same with ling's and also cabazon

anyways, ill send you a tuna pic since you mentioned it

  • isnt it true you should blle the fish out right when you catch it so you dont have bloody meat

    simply cutting the throat

  • The only fish that I know of that bleeding out or removing the heart would help save meat from breaking of blood cells would be TUNA. The faster you can bring any fish to the boat the better for the meat! The adrenalin is what creates the broken blood cells aka "the red un-eatable meat I am removing," tight, fast lines Brad!

  • Comment removed

  • @bigbadbrad95307 i bleed all my fish so i dont have a bloody mess when i fillet them and plus getting the meat wet with water isnt good either so i just bleed them and after done with filleting wrap them up with paper towel and take the left over blood off and then fry it up or just eat it the way it is. it isnt a bad thing to bleed fish i think it helps the taste quality give it a try and see how the difference is for yourself

  • crapola job on that one

  • thats not a striper its a striped bass white bass hybrid, you can tell cause the stripe is broken up. nice fish though

  • Not all Striper's have perfect stripes! There are three ways to tell the difference between Striped and Hybrid Bass. 1) The shape of where the head meets the body is arched. 2)The back of the tongue has two tooth patches "holes" in a Striper and one in a Hybrid. 3) There are three spines and 11 soft rays on the anal fin, with the longest of these spines less than half the height of the anal fin.

There is way to much cross breeding to count on just the broken lateral lines.

  • I just like the mob music in the background...

  • That's what I'm talking about! Nothing needed to be said just the skills of cutting, just get a sharp knife watch this video catch and practice.

    Awesome video great job.

Where's my tackle box I'm heading to the River!

  • what a waste filleting a fish like that. All that work for that much meat? Ridiculous.

  • great video on how to fillet a striper.i wished i had watched this before i cleaned my last striper.i learned how to get the rib cage out of the way.and a i can not belive the comitts i have read from the tree huggers of the world.remeber that that a fisherman once feed the mass with only six fish maybe he fillet them or maybe not.

  • Nice work man! I always found the dark meat to be a little strong, I don't know about inedible, that might be a little extreme. To each his own. Loved the music by the way How2.

  • Great Job! You were careful to get all the dark, inedible meat off and save the fantastically good white meat. For those of you reading this who catch a striped bass and want to clean and eat it make sure you get every bit of the dark meat off or the flesh will be basically inedible. If you do get it off and are left with just white meat you are in for a real treat. Great in fish and chips!

  • Easy way to filet one.

  • yeah those red lines do make stripers taste horrible.. i cut the red line out also..

  • Wow, you just wasted half the fish. Thats no way to fillet a striper.

  • Iron Head over half of this type of fish is not eatable!!! ... other than maybe people on Survivor or those starving in China this fish un-fileted is horrible to eat. I did not waste any of the eatable filets ... next time remember only 30-40% of a fish is a filet... This video was developed to show how to filet a Striper not save the world with it.

  • i have no problem eating the whole fish.. u just gotta know how to eat it and how to cook it...filleting a good fish like that is a waste...

  • What is going on with this fish? Does everyone in S.C. clean fish this way?

  • I found bleeding the fish out helps when filleting. Virtually no blood to deal with and preserves the meat a little longer. To me it tastes a bit better too! Just my two cents.

  • I have to say that this guy is putting Way to much work into filleting this fish. I do this for a living at a well regarded NYC restaurant and we use the whole fillet (pin bones removed of course), skin on for pan roasting and people love it. I have no idea why someone would feel compelled to remove so much delicious meat and skin!

  • Bag boy, What ever restaurant you serve a land lake fresh water Striper at is in trouble!!! ... These fish have blood lines and mercury filled bellies brother ... we eat the safe meat!!! Don't be a You tube critic ... go fishing, catch a fish and eat the whole thing!

  • All that cutting and filleting just for a little strip of meat? I'm asian and when I catch one and eat em, nothing go to waste. I scale em completely, cut the head off and cut em into chunks and then deep fry em. Then you can garnish it with a chinese sauce or just eat em like that. Mmmm....

  • I appreciate your effort to consume or utilize the catch. I do however use the leftovers in my crab traps and make chum for cats, thanks for the recipe though.

  • You Americans and your fillets. Catch a big fish, remove a couple of tiny strips, and throw the rest away. That should be a crime. It pains me to watch this video.

  • Obviously you've never eaten a whole striper ...these fish need to be stripped from toxins and dead/red blood lines from the fight so both Americans and non-americans don't throw up when consuming it.

  • how come i never had problems eating the whole fish? American people can't cook...or know how to eat.. time to stick to mac n cheese... lol...

  • oh get over it theres billions of them, and we eat it, not just throw it all away.

  • your retarded...dont watch videos from america then idiot...the guy did a good job filleting, thats what fillets are, when you make the fish boneless.

  • That's like arguing: "the guy did a good job murdering, thats what murder is, when you make the body lifeless"

The issue I brought up was not whether he did a good job filleting, but rather that it wastes a lot of meat in the process.

  • WHAT MEAT IS WASTED? the bones? the small bit near the head? The eyeballs and gills? How do you know what he did with the rack, what if he made fish soup and ate all of that? STOP BEING A JUDGEMENTAL ASSHOLE go cut fish the way you want and keep your mouth shut

  • There is plenty of wasted meat in a filled fish.

What if he made fish soup? Haha. That's like saying what if the moon is made of cheese.

Judgmental? I'm expressing what I think of his filleting video. That's what these comment boxes are for in case you haven't figured that out yet. You are the one being judgmental coming here attacking my opinion and calling me names.

That filleting was hideous. There. I said it again.

  • Thanks Pete!

  • yea hes right your way is your way there way is there way my way is my way so there do it your way insted of leaveing stupid comments

  • does this take care of the bones as well?

  • What bones? this is a boneless bloodless piece of striper love .... watch it again... and tight lines!

    We call them stper loins

  • i thought there were worms or something in stripers? my parents always told me not to eat them because of that?

  • Interesting...I didn't know you had to strip off the bloody part of striper as well. I thought you only had to do that to bluefish or it'll taste horrible.

  • is it still alive??

  • that was pathetic

  • your a idiot ... go fish.

  • that was one of th worst hack jobs i've ever seen why would u mislead people like that

  • go fish dude.

  • hmm the background seems like a rug in the beggining then at the end it looks like it's on grass outdoors lol

  • you did it on the rug? lol

  • is he a dweeb or what that's not filleting.

  • Seems like such a waste how an 8lb fish is reduced to two fillets that weigh less than 1/3rd of that.

  • hahahahaha not 8 lb anymore lol nice job!

  • he took about half the fillet off when he removed the flappy part on the bottom

  • dude thats the smallest striper i ever seen

  • bigger stripers out of the california aqueduct.and giant nasty catfishas well

  • ahahhahaah its that fucking fisherman from I KNOW WAT U DID LASER SUMMER!

  • wow lol

  • I like the "THUD" when she throws the carcuss

  • nothing left hehehe

  • Nice! well done. Now all I gotta do is catch a striper that size ;)
