Mary is not off Key. She's singing under and around the basic melody (the melody that we expect to hear). I don't know the musical term, but its something like the "Fugue" in Classical Music, except she's creating the counter-melodies and singing one of them rather than the basic melody. That is her signature. That's why people like her so much..cause she's not just singing simple notes. Every note and run of notes is deliberate not a mistake or an accident
