My 30 gig froze too. But its running perfectly now. Can't say the same for my 120 gb iPOD though. It's dead! Time to get a Touch!

Yeah, mark me down for telling the truth. 10.000 tracks on my 160 ipod classic "and its not half full" and not ONE track is a proprietary track, not one is a DRMed track and not one is an aac. 320 VBR MP3 ONLY. If you don't wnat an ipod, don't get one, but at least KNOW your shit before posting.

well just to let you guys know...i fixed my zune...i did that hard reset thing, like disconnect the battery and when it starts to load again, right when the logo comes press, the back button, left, and the middle button. that will format your zune(take everything off) and then it should take a long time, after a while, press back and up buttons. it will reset the zune and it should say "connect to PC" connect to PC, update your zune device and it should work, it did for me.

Zune? Philips?? No ipod???!  Is this a case of someone who refuses to use the popular thing everyone else uses? Just curious. I can understand that I suppose. I don't go to starbucks for that reason. I gotta tell you though, the ipod is a great product. I've bought 5 of them so far (2 for me and 3 as gifts).

I hate apple because they overprice everything to shake you for all the money you've got. So I get anything but Apple products. My phillips was pretty snazzy for the time I got it and it lasted three years through getting dropped a couple of times before it finally gave up living. Then, it sort of contracted demons and I had to replace it, but it was cheaper than ipod and so is my zune. :3 And yeah, I tend to stay far away from what's popular.

Its an ironic you eschew ipods because they're popular. I avoided Apple products similarly, thinking they were for dorks; however, my teenaged son wanted an Ipod for his birthday, so I relented.

Since then I'm a fan. Some things are popular because they're fads, while other things are because they're a great experience. Ipod is clearly the later the herd is correct this time. There's a saying in Japan: Usually, the cheaper thing costs more. This seems to apply in your case. Good luck

Not really. I have a huge screen that I don't have to squint at to watch a video on. I've got the ability to move from computer to computer and transfer music without it being in an iTunes only format. I've got the ability to section off my podcasts and vidcasts away from my music. All of this my philips didn't do, but I'm happy with it all the same. As I said to someone else, this incident never made me worried. I knew it would come out in the end.

but when you transfer them off of the iPod they change from mp3s to something else and if you switch computers for any reason the ipod will erase your music when you plug it into it. Even better, my grandpa works with three guys who have the latest ipods and all three froze and shut down at once like my zune did, only my zune came back with my music still in it and theirs didn't.

Then they are idiots. It is called manually manage ipod. If you set your ipod to manually manage music, you can move it from machine to machine without losing anything. Read the damn instructions.

And no they don't magically stop being mp3s when you remove them from your ipod. When I use "Ipod Viewer" I get off the same MP3s I put in.

Lastly, your claim that the iPods lost their music on Dec 31st is flatly a lie. I don't know what drives you Microsoft fanbois, but this lying is just sad.

It's just a glitch in the time frame of the system clock. All you have to do is wait till 12 tomorrow and everything will be back to normal because what the problem is is that this is a leap year sort of thing and it has to establish it as a leap year on the zune. It only happens on 30 g zunes.

Okay... here's some solid information, I hope. If you are willing to open up your Zune(google to figure out how) and 'restart' it by disconnecting and reconnecting the battery, it _will_ work. However, do NOT hook it up to your computer. If you have one, use a wall or car charger to power your 30G Zune if you need to. This is currently working for me.

This is a PITA, but I like my 30G. I bought it expressly because I _hate_ Apple and don't want to use an iPod like everyone else. Thank you.

I wouldnt take an Ipod if it was FREE! even with my Zune currently locked with Z2K! The Ipuke's are too small. who the hell watches a full-length movie on that tiny POS? It's an MP3 PLAYER not a DVD PLAYER and at least with the Zune its large enough to see and not so off-the-wall expensive as the low-memory Ipuke. MS will find a cure. I SAY UNLOCK THE ZUNE!

Am gonna try to drain the battery, then erase everything(back,left,center), Delete the zune software and install the 3.0 (or earlier one), then am gonna plug the zune back to the computer to install the old software(while blocking the internet access)...i'll send an update if it works.
