  • if you spend all your time close grip you wont widen then back its simple but overlooked, wide pulls= wide back so in essence I recommend more time wide than close but use the two forms to hit the muscle and back from all angles

  • Its better to do a lat pulldown/pullup with a wide grip instead of a narrow grip because although it is a smaller range of motion, it works and strengthens your back more, which can be a difficult area to exercise and keep fit. Also, from experience, if you train with a wide grip, you'll still be able to do narrow grips. The reverse is not true. This guy is an idiot.

  • Im a bodybuilder, what hes saying is kinda right. Close grip can be in some cases better than wide, but not in all. I like to do both for the pulldown. Put it this way, wide grip activates the lats better, but close grip stretches the lats further over the negative motion. Do wide grip and close grip.

  • Except, like bench the wider you go the more isolated your pecs or lats are, the closer the more your incorporating other muscle groups into the lift. The closer your also hitting the more inner and hitting more of another. IE closer bench inner chest and triceps. Inner lat more biceps and inner lats.

  • 1 important point many trainers neglect when talking about the ROM and lat pulldown is the plane of motion. With wide grip, I bring my upper arms down more along my sides (like a flying motion). With close grip, I bring my arms down towards my front of my body. The wide grip more effectively hits the lats. But close grip more effectively hits the overall back.
