@sweetfly66? cause that's what He's been doing since the 70's!! I mean, it's George Benson, what'd you think he was gonna do? That's what he does, duh!
@Jamman1214..Freddy might not have been there, he was about 69 then, & died 6 years later, don't know if he was still playing around that time.
@654219..it was acknowledgment not an introduction. & Basie was like 75 when they did this, I'm sure he didn't mind! Less playing 4 him..this project was about George anyway!
why does he have to scat along with his guitar ... it is so annoying .... his soloing is great but the scatting is so gimmicky ... on a more positive note , the Basie band is swinging as ever . I especially like how they can play really forward feeling swing without it being overly aggressive , pretty hard to do .
@sweetfly66 George Benson is the greatest living jazz guitarist and there isn't any question about it. The technique you find 'annoying' is one of the reasons for this. It demonstrates that he plays what he hears- great guitarists never play what they don't hear. Benson's scat/playing is proof that all of those insane lines he busts out are completely intentional and not random scale manipulation. He also began as a singer, this is a great way to integrate his skill set.
Oh yes.you are 100% right..GB has been performing since the age of 4 yrs old and there's NOTHING he doesn't know about harmony, melody etc. or The Blues.
His technique is lethal ! (LOL)
Wes Montgomery passed the baton to George.
The 1st time i saw GB was in 1972 and not many knew of him ..he tore the stage down.
I like this but why did george introduce the great count basie and then did not let him play one chord or note on the piano ? What ! this was count basie !!!! there would be no george fuckin benson without the count !!!

Count Basie is like "wish I had learned to play the piano". At 0:53 he tells one of the band members "shut up.....they don't know im bluffing"
