  • I have this song on a K-Tel album.

  • What a fantastic song, just gets better and better sounding!

  • MAN this song gets soo much better with age... ILOVEIT

  • Fantastic song, timeless gem.

    Thank-you for posting :)

  • Great song. To bad Steel River didn't get the recognition they deserved south of the border.

  • another great song,johnny

  • Great song, thanks for posting!

  • was this released in quad as well?

  • @coldplays179

This song was recorded the year that quad was unveiled to the US market, so it's safe to say that the technology to record and issue records in quad had not been exported to Canada yet.

  • Thanx for posting. Saw them at Stephen Leacock C.I. Did a version ot Living in the USA that was awesome. Too bad bands like this don't play the high schools anymore. Great memories.

  • this song is great. I hear it all the time on Q107, but it's impossible to find their music. Man I wish I was alive to hang out in Yorkville in the late 60s, early 70s.

  • I did we bought our elephant bells and Leon Russell T-shirts in those brightly coloured stores in Yorkville then went over to Sams on Young to buy some records before taking the bus back home!

  • too bad huh I had all these records from 1969 on but sold it all in 1977 dam it..I am still tryin to find a couple hundred rare tunes

  • I always hear it on Psychedelic Psunday on Q107. I agree, it's really hard to find their music.

I wish I alive then too!

  • @RedSiberianBluesman you should have been there Red,they were great times, when john was 14 before he was in the band he used to sing out loud on his way to the store,me and our friends ducted taped him to a pole in my parernts basement when we were around 16.

  • A mono version is on the BMG "Made In Canada" CD box.

  • No, it's stereo. That's where I got this one.

  • I saw Steel River with James Gang on June 19,1971, was on the 9th row here in Okla. City and I have love them ever since. Would like to know where I could get a Cd of there 70's albums.

  • Cool! I saw them when I was in high school in Southern Ontario around the same time. I just looked, and there are Russian pirate CDs of two of their albums for sale. These would just be vinyl transfers, probably not declicked or denoised. The label they recorded for has not, to my knowledge, released an official CD of Steel River's music. They have only licensed a few tracks to compilation CDs. So, unfortunately, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for one to appear any time soon.

  • well if you work the newsgroups for mp3 areas, you can grab up all kinds of collections that we have in there ok!!??

  • As a big supporter of Canadian music I am disappointed that Steel River / 10 lb note is not recognized by the publishers of the "OH WHAT A FEELING" collection. What an oversight!

  • Yet again this defines the Canadian rock scene in the 70s! Fludd, Lighthouse, Copper Penny, Crowbar they all sounded great!

  • I used to mistake these guys for The Animals whenever I heard this tune on 1050 CHUM.

  • For the record I love this song and agree its one of the best of its time. Glad to see others agree.

  • What a song. I don't know how it only has 237 views.

  • Two other guys have it up, and after six months one only has 1718 views, and after four months the other has 432. The quality of mine is better than either, but random strangers passing by here probably have never heard of Steel River, or this great song. Which is a shame, really. But if anyone searches for it, it's here. You found it, and thanks for that.

  • @mojofilter02 Thanks so much for posting this absolute gem.The search for the perfect two and a half minute song will never end,but it definitely stopped for a bit when this came out.

  • Americans never knew what they were missing...still don't as the Tragically Hip escaped their radar, with the exceptions of maybe Detroit and Buffalo.

  • One enduring song. I've never seen that label before.

  • There were apparently a LOT of records on this label. All the records by Lighthouse were issued on Evolution in the States, licensed from GRT. That's odd, since GRT also had a licensing deal with Janus Records, who released James Leroy and others south of the border.

  • Me neither but the fact of the matter is that there were 1,000s of record labels in the 60s and 70s!!!!!
