She was considering Norma and was told by Marilyn Horne, in no uncertain terms, NOT to do it. She sings the dramatic soprano aria, Casta Diva. beautifully but is unlikely to struggle with the physical stress of a whole onstage Norma as her voice is not suited to it. You don't have to sing Norma to be a "great" soprano. You have to be a great "dramatic soprano" to sing Norma. Renee is a "lyric soprano" similar in vocal qualities and repertoire preferences to Elisabeth Schwartzkopf.
