awesome song dude I remember seeing this video a couple of years back. And that twin/strat of yours sounds amazing! Im actually going to pick a twin up in two weeks. Do you mind telling me what speakers you're using?
The best tone wise is American or Mexican, feel and build quality goes between Japanese and American and bang for your buck goes with Mexican.
I'd recommend Mexican because you get a very good tone and the price is right. Japanese are good but rare I recommend e bay. They are cheaper than Americans however.
In all fairness buy whichever one want to get. I'd get a mexican
SRV > Lenny...way cool ! I bought my original Fender Twin Amp (1972) for $125.00. I bought a 1964 (PreCBS ) princeton for $50.00. And 2 70s Champ Amps for 50 bucks apiece. this is before the markup of the 1990s....BTW...Great sound ! -thanks !!!
are the pickups on that guitar the original ones that came with it? im getting ready to go buy an american 70s reissiue.and, an 65 deluxe reverb amp hope it sounds as nice as your setup. also, i agree with you a bit on stevie ray. robin trower was another jimi inspired guitarist too i still like listening to him too.
at the time of this recording, yes they were the originals. i have put cs 69's in them since. but the pick ups it came with do sound lovley. i have put them in my 68 reissue strat. that guitar came with texas specials. they are truly horrible pick ups.
ihave no idea what you are talking about. i dont know what the radius is. and i dont know if i've ever noticed any impact a certain radius would have.
my strats all have 9.5" radius and they fret out too. I really dont see a difference between 7.25" and 9.5". i guess you can tell with the 12'' radius on a gibson but they have a smaller scale neck. i like the feel of a big fat ol' strat or tele neck in my hand over anything else.
@Alberto6143 yeah, i do have have larger hands. plus there's nothing like the neck pickup on a strat. i like strats cause not only are they incredibly versatile from the factory but you can make them even more so with mods. i've had humbuckers in the neck and bridge with a single in the middle for a while. now i have one in the bridge with 2 singles. i might go to 3 singles next time.. maybe 3 mini humbuckers. maybe a couple P90s. maybe a tele bridge pickup and a tv jones in the neck.
@Alberto6143 ya know what? i've played 7.25 radius guitars and they're just as easy to play and bend on as 9.5 fingerboards. however, i really notice a difference when i play one with a 12''+ radius.
srv wouldnt have a sound or style if it wasnt for jimi hendrix. jimi wrote the book. srv read a chapter and made a career out of it. jimi was a master at playing, song writing and guitar tones. srv was a master at imitation, an average song writer and had only one guitar tone. srv became lost and confused when ever he deviated from the 12 bar format. jimi hendrix reinvented the sound and style of electric guitar playing. srv made a living off covers and mimickry. thats my opinion.
I thought i was the only strat player that did not care for str or the legion of vaghnabes out there ,now days every time some one plays a strat they play the same generic blues.
Great :) I have the same guitar as a reissue, rosewood neck and it's great because i was set on a 60's reissue and always came back to the 70's model. Now i know that with a twin reverb it should sound quite good...
nah, the snares not on. its the sound on my digital camera distorting. i have to find a better way to record sound...i have one, but i am a very lazy man.
oh and another thing: the 70's head stock is so awsome!!! And: does a strat sound strati through a marshall too? i got a marshall and a gibson les paul and the sound is so heavy yeah!!!!but im considering buying a strat... and what do u think about a strat with a humbucker in the bridge position?
i love the big headstock stratocasters. they are my fave. i play my strats thru a marshall on stage all the time. but the do sound a lot different thru a marshal than something with humbuckers. i have agibson sg too. the strat will not be as heavy sounding as a humbucking guitar, but i find it is a lot more flexible tone when say, running a fuzz box on top of an already distorted marshall amp. with humbuckers, sometimes that can get to heavy and botom out, but a strat can handle it muckh better.
and i have another Q: in a les paul guitar u can change the strings height right? can u do this on a strat? in a les paul u got the stopbar tail pice and the tuneomatic bridge u can adjust but in a strat?
to be honest, not really. i cant handel to much stevie. i like some of his instrumentals, but when i listen to his songs i find my self fast forwarding to the solo. his voice doesnt agree with my ears. Jimi is the man.
... o o... well, jimi is really the man but i dont understand u: u like his instrumentals but u dont like his other songs? i mean y? in his non instrumentals he fills every little second with awsome notes...
i just feel that the only good thing about stevie ray v was his guitar playing. now, this is just my opinion but, i feel that anyone could have wrote a lot of stevie ray s songs. they are predominatley 12 bar blues songs and covers. his guitar playing was his only strength. and this obviously shines thru best on his instrumentals. Jimi was a masterful guitar player and song writer and open to all sorts of musical experimentation. srv is just a derivative of a very small part of jimi's technique.
yep! they sound awsome. I'd never change the pickups this baby came with. amazing natural compression. I dont know if it is the pick ups or the nitro paint that make this thing sound so good. apparantly nitropaint makes a guitars tone a lot better than the thick polywhatever they coat them in now.

I'm about to get a Fender 1971 Twin! This only makes me want one more! Right now I play through a HotRod Deville, but I'm looking for a richer more vintage sound, and this sounds great!
Amazing tone and amazing playing! Those 'shark finn' neck heads are my alltime favourite... I think I'll get some of those 70's reissues sometime soon!
Congratulations for your amp, your guitar and your playing!
I'm pretty sure i will buy this one. I'm just hesitating between olympic white (just like Jimi :) ) and sunburst (yours is really nice, with the black pickguard this is better). Thanks for this little demo, great sound ! And great pictures too !
and, for shout3000, it costs 1299 $ US (i'm french but i'm gonna buy it in the US 'cos in France that costs twice the price, don't know why)
i honestly love this guitar. i had originally orderd a black one (just like jimi's Band of Gypsys strat coz i already got a white 68 reissue) but at the last moment i had the thought of sunburst with the black plastic ware. its a rare combo in the maple necks, but i think the pictures tell the story.
it's swamp ash actually. it's a little heavier than normal ash. i like a guitar with a bit of weight in it. it feels like a weapon. glad you like it mate.

Don't you think the new fingerboard's radius (9.5, instead of the old 7.25) is better for string benddings, and overall easier playing?
Alberto6143 2 years ago
ihave no idea what you are talking about. i dont know what the radius is. and i dont know if i've ever noticed any impact a certain radius would have.
weavzy 2 years ago
Fingerboard radius is the fingerboard curve. Higher radius number, the flatter fingerboard is. For instance:
vintage strat ---- 7.25''
modern strat --- 9.50
gibson sg ------- 12''
Alberto6143 2 years ago
my strats all have 9.5" radius and they fret out too. I really dont see a difference between 7.25" and 9.5". i guess you can tell with the 12'' radius on a gibson but they have a smaller scale neck. i like the feel of a big fat ol' strat or tele neck in my hand over anything else.
TMMSfanCLUB 2 years ago
You like the old fat strat neck probably because you have big hands, don't you?
Maybe I'm wrong, but think gibson guitars are easier to play than fender's. But the strat body is lighter, and much more confortable to hold on.
Alberto6143 2 years ago
@Alberto6143 yeah, i do have have larger hands. plus there's nothing like the neck pickup on a strat. i like strats cause not only are they incredibly versatile from the factory but you can make them even more so with mods. i've had humbuckers in the neck and bridge with a single in the middle for a while. now i have one in the bridge with 2 singles. i might go to 3 singles next time.. maybe 3 mini humbuckers. maybe a couple P90s. maybe a tele bridge pickup and a tv jones in the neck.

Craig122593 2 years ago
i dont really like srv. i think he is over rated. i much prefer maple necks. more brighter sound and as they age, they look much nicer.
weavzy 2 years ago
how is he overrated? personally i think he is the best guitar player to ever walk on this earth and jimi hendrix is the most overrated ever
Craig122593 2 years ago
