Opera singers have appeared on Sesame Street and the Muppet Show for years. Beverly Sills sang for the Muppets and the video is here on Youtube. Placido Domingo was a frequent singer on Sesame Street. He even had a Muppet counterpart - Placido Flamingo the tenor flamingo. Fleming is just keeping that tradition. Very nice to see this.
he should have taught her not to fall for jerks! You can so see that they weren't Jewish. If I even thought for a second to kill myself for someone, I'd feel so guilty tward my parents!
just for your information, its the muppets not sesame street. those are two completely different shows... but yes, i agree. she does an amazing job with this one.
For the ones taking this a bit too seriously, this is for fun.
The magic of Sesame Street is that it has always been written on 2 levels so that parents can watch it with their kids and get inside jokes that kids won't. Well it does take an educated parent, but I've gotten no end of joy out of it as an adult. This is both silly and sublime and only a personable soprano could make it work.
absolutely charming and wonderful and it shows that some people who produce kids shows still want them to see something else except of babarous rock or rap, brava Renee!!
SOOOO appropriate that Fleming sing with barnyard animals, as she often sounds like one herself. The most over-rated "soprano" (I use the term loosely) of the past quarter-century. I heard somewhere that she's going to sing Norma soon- what a travesty! What a joke! She made my ears almost bleed when I sampled her Bel Canto recital disc once...
Yes, I'm a homosexual. I'm Latino. I'm left-handed. My sign is Capricorn. What the hell does me being gay have to do with the price of tea in China? I see that Fleming has her deranged, idiot fans, too!
I don't need to do extensive research to know that Fleming is heavily overhyped. If she's your cup of tea, fine, but I am entitled to disagree, and doing so does NOT make me an idiot or a sheep.
Actully it was probley from Sesame Street and not the Muppet Show. It was really cool to hear this again. I think i remember this from back in the 90s or maybe the 2000s. I really can't say but cool to see something that i remember from my teenage years (i think)
I love her!!!! and this video thank you for posting. i wish i learned stuff through opera when i was little...i know i am going to sing opera to my children.
hahaha. i love this video. you can tell that Renee Flemming has had small children. I love it that she's not a diva- she doesn't take herself so seriously that singing on a childrens program in a goofy way is problem. Please! She's an entertainer by trade. An "Artisan" yes- but its entertainment! It's the reason the Met hired her, and the reason that she's become so successful. Bravi. I enjoyed it. ;0
Isn't it a great favour to The Muppet Show to have a diva appearing to teach how children count. Ms. Fleming appear just like people appear in charity show.
She's not compromising anything. It's VITALLY important for the opera community, at least, that young children are exposed to the art form. You can put your money on it that she has inspired a few up and coming young singers by her appearance on this show. So European people can be as stuffy as they'd like, but in America we like to expose our children to culture early on.
I beg you pardon? Where comes this culture from? Maybe one day you go to Europe and learn something about it. The only problem we have is to keep our children away from all those .... that come from the US like Paris Hilton and so on and so on and so on!
I've lived in Europe for very much extended periods of time. I'm not bashing Europe, only responding to a "European" person who pitted Europe against America in the Operatic culture war. Most Americans hate Paris Hilton... only the media loves her.
Who talked about stuffy Europeans? If you begin on that intellectual level, you must be aware of response. And by the way: P. Hilton stands for Britney Spears, McDonalds, Hollywood, sitcoms, the typical rapping subculture and so forth. We already have something like a culture war over here, defending our culture, languages and since Bush our common sense.
I guess your `and so on´ means Beethoven, Bach, Brahms, Mozart, Kant, Goethe, Hegel, Wagner, Schiller, Luther, Nietzsche, Heine, Marx, Einstein and so on?! Your comment is pretty stupid - though I honestly feel ashamed about those Nazis.
I was purposely echoing the "and so on" language you invoked to infer that Paris Hilton summed up all American achievement. Clearly I respect the individual Germans you mentioned, as well as many others; it is too facile to dismiss an entire nation based on a few shameful people, be they Paris Hilton or Heinrich Himmler. So, do not be too quick in labeling others' comments as "pretty stupid."
ok, let´s put it on a different level! When you go back to my first comment you will see that I only gave a comment to someone who did just that what you were critizising about my `one fits all´ - comment. You are absolutely right - P Hilton or George W don´t stand for the US of course. But there is a `little´ difference in character, moral and meaning between Hilton and Himmler! Himmler and so on was a bit too much.
Just too stupid..... Did you ever realized in what year we live? It´s 60 years after that barbarism, what means two new generations. I´m ashamed, that´s true, but in front of myself, not of you!
I don't even know how to comment on this epic video.
