@tzkoo nope when you disassemble your blackberry you will find under the track ball 4 leds which lights up the trackball color them with a blue marker pen or put any transparent blue paper

just get a thin piece of paper of the colour you want. i recommend tissue paper and put it under the keyboard over all white areas and just put the keyboard back on and turn it on.

step 1. take the keyboard off

step 2. find the led indicators that produce the light

step 3. get an ERASABLE marker and color over the light only

step 4. put keyboard on and TAADAAA :D !

you got yourself colored lights !

oh and you need to use an erasable marker so you can change the color later on.

basically on the motherboard there are like 6 or 7 leds you have to use a soldering iron to take it of with some solder and then place the blue leds or what ever colour you will like :)

he either a) put all new LED's in - which i doubt because its risky, and not many people would do it

or b) he bought a very thin film of blue plastic and put it between the keyboard and the LED's (which is what i did and it works fantastic)

You don't need to solder anything, This mod is Soo Easyyy,, Just take your phone apart, if you dont know how just look it up, The LEDS are tiny WHITE leds, so all you need is some type of translucent film (clear color plastic/paper) and you cut a tiny piece to fit over the LED and thats it.....Garage1217 sells TRANSLUCENT VINYL that is perfect for this upgrade, Just select a color...Thats where i ordered mine from......

okay when u take apart ur phone and its the middle part there are about 8 leds under the keyboard but they are exposed when u take off the front and back housing. all u have to do is color them whatever its badass.

You need to open up your phone and solder it yourself by changing your LED to the coloured LED you want. Because the stock LED's are just plain white LED's.

Or you can do what I did. Take the phone apart(make sure you know what you're doing) and put clear tape over the LEDs and color the tape with a sharpie. Idk how hard it is with a bold but I gave my 8800 a green keyboard and trackball a couple years ago and it worked flawlessly and looked awesome.

be careful though. if you remove them the wrong way you could break the keys or even damage the light. try to stay away from sharp knives. you could even use scissors.

To get the blue LED look:

you have to remove the track ball, keys, and anything else that lights up. You get whatever color sharpie you like and color the back of the keys/ and the whole trackball.

@ruelmeeks88 what you do is you take some clear tape and color it what ever color you want, and then cut it just enough to cover the little LED light and put the track ball back on. after all of this your ball should e whatever color you put on the tape

That's not software controlled, You can either take a blue sharpie to the LED's on the keypad membrane (under the keyboard itself in the phone.) or take something along the lines of blue cellophane wrap and put it on the membrane, which makes the light shine through in that blue colour.

im putting one together as i type this. i got my parts from ebay. the buttons are chrome and the area around the lcd is white. the blue track ball i have is from ebay and im trying for the first time to make the keyboard backlight glow blue. all i did was add colored plastic to the top of the leds. u can do that for the trackball if you dont want to buy one thats blue and just use the default one.
