The reasoning of the person who posted this video is faulty. He reasons that CCW holders cannot react effectively in a real situation. Both Jason and Ashley were able to stop the shooter while being shot themselves ... saving others. The fault of most CCW holders is that they do not train beyond shooting at stationary paper targets. Those of us who train for events like this will give this biased report (Diane Sawyer, ABC New ... need I say more?) a different outcome.

This test is flawed. The police officer knows going in who has the gun, so he comes in and shoots straight at the student with the gun. Try giving the gun to another student, this time don't tell the perpetrator who is carrying.

There are far to many Inconsitencies: the training of these shooters, the target expects to be shot at, each senerio was different eliminating the abbilty to accuratley compare them, and the reporting was poor to boot. But I do agree that most of the dislikes probably came from the title and not the videos content.

Shooter walks right in and goes directly for the armed student - not realistic for him to know who is armed. Now remake the video with the gunmen entering the room without knowing who is armed. Wow....Talk about BS.....I have been in a gun fight. I fired 4 rounds....2 in the chest, 1 in the head, and one in the shoulder. You have to train, train, train....you think about it, worry about it, figure out what you would do. You must shoot every week. I put 100 to 150 rounds a week with my pistol. 100 rounds with my rifle, 50 rounds with my shotgun, and 30 rounds with my long range gun.

While I understand the point that is trying to be made the field needs to be leveled for optimum results. If they're going to use a cop who has extensive training in weaponry then they should've matched him up with folks that had similar familiarity with weapons as well. The first rule when carrying a firearm is Practice, Practice, Practice. You have to be second nature with your weapon...and accurate. Know when to fire and when to let the situation play itself out peacefully.

In cases of mass Virginia Tech style killings, if you're slated to be victim 1, 2, or 3, concealed carry won't do you much good. It's if you've tried to beat a retreat and or one of the unfortunate people behind a stack of chairs slated to be victim 8 of 17. Instead of being able to do nothing, maybe you can save yourself. @toolkien I carry a gun, under permit, but was never under any illusion about the effectiveness of the weapon. For a CCW permit holder the odds are less than 50% that he or she would have the opportunity to get even one shot off in a self defense situation. Still, it is better than no odds (having no gun) at all.

I just watched the video they used as an example of a failure of CCW working, saying the clerk behind the counter just missed the babies head. Yea, he missed the baby because EVERY SHOT HE FIRED HIT HIS INTENDED TARGET.
He knew those desks won't provide adequate cover, little space to manuever, and anyone trying to stop the shooter would be sitting ducks because they will be boxed in by hostages. That alone gave the shooter the upper hand to kill many people before he could be stopped.
You have to take in a lot of information at a small amount of time. Meanwhile, the shooter already planned his attack. Even with a cop, a SWAT officer, FBI Agent, US Marshal, Secret Service Agent, a Navy Seal, and a Marine in the room, and the results couldn't be any different. The shooter had the element of surprise and was familiar with his surroundings.

Police train days, if not weeks on end how to draw, shoot, reload with 1 hand if wounded, best tactical stances, best places for cover, when to shoot, when not to shoot, how to secure rooms, rescue hostages, immobilize or neutralize suspects. An additional point to my previous post is this. If firearms hadnt been ripped away from lawabiding citizens to begin with. You would of more then likely had a room full of armed citizens. This was dumb as hell, an active shooter isn't going to automatically assume someone with a gun is going to return fire, the shooter in this scenario is EXPECTING it. If an active shooter enters a room and opens fire you don't stand up and draw your weapon and try to have a shootout with them, where's your tactics? Best thing to do is duck/cover/move if necessary then draw your weapon, eyes never leave the shooter, then take an opportunity to take them out while his focus isn't on you.

Ok. I am going to respond to this video as dispassionately as I can regardless of my personal opinion. This video was obviously made with a certain "bias" but I'll ignore that as well. What I WILL note is that in a situation where there is one armed bad guy with a desire to kill vs a room with no armed innocents, many people will die. If at least ONE armed innocent is in the room the odds for the survival of the rest in that room increase.
The didnt mention the statistics in real life situations only a couple stray incidents like the idiot who shot his wife. Hundreds of horrible situations have been averted due to ccw holders.

This experiment is incomplete. There's no control group. You must do this test again exactly the same way, except have no one carrying a weapon. Then, compare the results from both tests. This is necessary because you will be testing ONLY the variable that changed. For example, if you give a group of 500 sick people a certain pill and 300 of them die while 200 are cured, did the pill kill or cure? If you do the test again with no pill, and all die, then the pill must be a cure.

if it were real they would probably only get to shoot once before the bad guy shot at them if they were to miss, and not pulling the gun fast would give the bad guy even more time to notice them as a threat.

Could they have done any more to garantee failure? The cop knew where the armed student was in the room, they set up a second gunner who knew where the armed student was. The cop was told to shoot the student and then the armed student. The armed student was given the worst of cover garments and forced to wear gloves.

The reasoning of the person who posted this video is faulty. He reasons that CCW holders cannot react effectively in a real situation. Both Jason and Ashley were able to stop the shooter while being shot themselves ... saving others. The fault of most CCW holders is that they do not train beyond shooting at stationary paper targets. Those of us who train for events like this will give this biased report (Diane Sawyer, ABC New ... need I say more?) a different outcome.

@tenj00 While I agree that people should watch the entire video before they pass judgment, that dosent save the video from being biassed and completely un-scientific. There are far to many Inconsitencies: the training of these shooters, the target expects to be shot at, each senerio was different eliminating the abbilty to accuratley compare them, and the reporting was poor to boot. But I do agree that most of the dislikes probably came from the title and not the videos content.

Shooter walks right in and goes directly for the armed student - not realistic for him to know who is armed. Now remake the video with the gunmen entering the room without knowing who is armed. And take the gloves off. A couple look like they're wearing gloves that don't even fit. Wow....Talk about BS.....I have been in a gun fight. I fired 4 rounds....2 in the chest, 1 in the head, and one in the shoulder. You have to train, train, train....you think about it, worry about it, figure out what you would do. You must shoot every week. I put 100 to 150 rounds a week with my pistol. 100 rounds with my rifle, 50 rounds with my shotgun, and 30 rounds with my long range gun.

While I understand the point that is trying to be made the field needs to be leveled for optimum results. If they're going to use a cop who has extensive training in weaponry then they should've matched him up with folks that had similar familiarity with weapons as well. The first rule when carrying a firearm is Practice, Practice, Practice. You have to be second nature with your weapon...and accurate. Know when to fire and when to let the situation play itself out peacefully.

In cases of mass Virginia Tech style killings, if you're slated to be victim 1, 2, or 3, concealed carry won't do you much good. It's if you've tried to beat a retreat and or one of the unfortunate people behind a stack of chairs slated to be victim 8 of 17. Instead of being able to do nothing, maybe you can save yourself. I don't plan on being in the center of a the room, far from exits, and pulling out my gun to save the day for everyone. Just myself. If 9-17 are saved too, groovy.

For a CCW permit holder the odds are less than 50% that he or she would have the opportunity to get even one shot off in a self defense situation. Even with a cop, a SWAT officer, FBI Agent, US Marshal, Secret Service Agent, a Navy Seal, and a Marine in the room, and the results couldn't be any different. Either take all the concealable guns away or make it mandatory that everyone 18 and over carries. Include mandatory training and education, and if you're caught without it, you get fined. It'll be a bloody first 6 months, but criminals would think twice about using theirs... I just don't see all of our concealable guns ever going away... as useless as they are. This was dumb as hell, an active shooter isn't going to automatically assume someone with a gun is going to return fire, the shooter in this scenario is EXPECTING it. If an active shooter enters a room and opens fire you don't stand up and draw your weapon and try to have a shootout with them, where's your tactics? Best thing to do is duck/cover/move if necessary then draw your weapon, eyes never leave the shooter, then take an opportunity to take them out while his focus isn't on you.

Ok. I am going to respond to this video as dispassionately as I can regardless of my personal opinion. This video was obviously made with a certain "bias" but I'll ignore that as well. What I WILL note is that in a situation where there is one armed bad guy with a desire to kill vs a room with no armed innocents, many people will die. If at least ONE armed innocent is in the room the odds for the survival of the rest in that room increase.

This experiment is incomplete. There's no control group. You must do this test again exactly the same way, except have no one carrying a weapon. Then, compare the results from both tests. This is necessary because you will be testing ONLY the variable that changed. For example, if you give a group of 500 sick people a certain pill and 300 of them die while 200 are cured, did the pill kill or cure? If you do the test again with no pill, and all die, then the pill must be a cure.

@bladesaint21 true but the accuracy of the students was not good, and they got to shoot first at the "bad guy" they even had trouble taking the gun out of the holster.
if it were real they would probably only get to shoot once before the bad guy shot at them if they were to miss, and not pulling the gun fast would give the bad guy even more time to notice them as a threat.

Noone really knows how they will respond,How accurate they will shoot when this kind of incident happens but I know the outcome if noone has a weapon except the badguy.Typical police response is 12 mins unless coincidently there already. The cop was told to shoot the student and then the armed student. The armed student was given the worst of cover garments and forced to wear gloves.
