I think this shouldve been used for a few episodes in the first season before they changed it because it sounds more like a 80's Surf Rock theme and it sounds edgier and it make its sound like garey busey might pop out of anywhere and start cooking bacon naked
Those that can create, create. Those that can't, critique. I'll always love the original....as for the new version.....the casting is perfect, the writing excelent, I love how they continue a few story lines, the season ender was amazing. To those hating the new version...What shows DO you like. Probably crap, since you dissed this gem. H50 is the only network show I look forward to. I couldn't imagine not liking it. Dancing with the Stars? Glee? Now THERE'S some crap. Congrats CBS!
Whiskey. Tango. Hotel. Did they DO to the song? I'm glad that since they felt the need to reboot this, they wised up and went back to the original theme... this one SUCKS. Seriously.
The new Hawaii Five-O is an abomination, a sacrilege to the original. It's now just another CSI type "cop" show set in Hawaii. What a joke. All they have in common is the theme song, nothing else.
I did not know that it was back on the telly, but I definitely prefer the original music. I see an earlier poster confirms that the public also preferred the traditional theme.
DagmarSLNY you must have never heard the actual version and the album it was released on. I think you are the only person I've ever heard of that thought that The Ventures, "Hawaii Five-O" was a song as opposed to an instrumental and secondly found it in any way distasteful. Good luck in your pursuit of a clue.
Well, stop watching H50 videos if you dislike it so much. I've seen you post nearly the same comment on, like, two other videos. If it bothers you that much, don't watch. It's pretty simple, no?
We finally have this in the UK. Paper thin plots, zany hand acting from Mr Scott Caan, nowhere near enough mentions about Pearl Harbor. But I love it! Perfect Sunday night viewing! The ladies can have their Larkrise To Candleford, I'll stick with 5'O!
Can we have an original show for a change? "Let's make another cop show like CSI, but make it sexier and set in Hawaii, like Hawaii Five-O, but more modern and sexier. Don't forget the sex! Fuck it, let's just do a sexy remake." I'm sick of rehashes, remakes, and all the other crap that's been churning out ever since the late Nineties. This show's boring. Everything that can be done on network television has been done.
It's a good series, but it's not Hawaii Five-O.I feel CBS has burdened it with a legend it can't possibly live up to. It would have been better to call it something else.
@TroyConvers5000 I know. It's actually pretty well written but in no way compares to the original's 12 year legacy. I mean come on. If anyone tried to do a remake of Dallas, would it truly live up to its reputation?
I like this version of the theme, but i also like the one the producers eventually went with. Only question is, why'd they shorten the theme from its original length of 60 seconds down to 30 seconds?
The biggest comment this makes is the same one I hear from my nieces and their friends: there was better music and creativity back in the 60's and 70's. I mean, they are using the same music, camera shots and ideas from a show that is 40 years old? Maybe some whizzo 'hi-tech' updated effects to indicate everybody now has computers (the wire-frame stuff around the Hawaii Five-0 logo). Now: bring back 'Batman' as an intentionally goofy tv show, not the ultimately goofy 'Dark Knight' fetishist.
I am sorry but the original Hawaii 5-0 kicks the new Hawaii 5-0 to the curb. The original cast were kickass and looked like real people as opposed to the new cast which look like models that came out of an Abercrombie & Fitch catalog. Plus the acting sucks! Give me Jack Lord and Kam Fong anyday. Plus leave it to the networks to keep retooling and messing with old shows because they can no longer be original anymore.
@19630541 You really must not keep up with news at all do you? Or else you wouldn't make such an ignorant comment. The new Five-0 show is the #1 highest rated new drama of this TV year, it is most definitely coming back for a second season, it is highly successful, one of the actors already gaining a Golden Globe nomination, and it's ratings are high and strong. So not only is the show airing all the episodes of the first season, it will return for a second and even more seasons.
@Abreen11 Umm, you do realize that this isn't even the official Five-0 theme? Have you even watch the show yet or are you one of those idiots who just think they're so smart in commenting everything with their great knowledge? The theme that airs with the new show is a remix done by the original score-writers.
@BetaArtemis Did I say anything about the theme, whether it is or is not the official version?? My comment is based on watching the show new and old idiot. You are one of these people who just needs to mouth off without full knowledge of the facts so as to get an audience to make your trivial an insignificant life seem important...
@Abreen11 And you must know the all the facts right? You know for a fact that this show is so crappy right? You must be so smart. The FACTS are the new show is the highest rated new drama on TV this year, it just gained a viewing audience of over 19 million viewers and is guaranteed for new season. THESE are facts. I know them. What you have is an opinion. Calling me idiot won't change that I commented with knowledge of facts. And another fact, you spelled "and" wrong.
@BetaArtemis Oh I spelled "and" wrong, sorry about the typo, you pedantic fool. So it's okay for you to call someone an idiot but when someone does it to you, you don't like it. I was referring to FACTS in the context that you though I hadn't watched both the new and old version, not FACTS as in the rating the new show may have. I never said my opinion on the new show was a FACT and I couldn't care less what the rating of the new show is, I don't like it when compared to the original.
@Abreen11 At least I can spell and be pedantic. And you obviously don't like people calling you idiot either, so pot calling the kettle black, get over it. And it's "thought", something else you spelled wrong. Anyways, not that your "facts" matter anyways, the new show is successful without you watching, so go hide and whine in your corner if you want, not gonna change the fact that the new show is successful like the original.
@BetaArtemis I know, my facts won't change the fact that you enjoy making derogatory responses toward others, even though you don't like it being done to you and that you also can't be bothered finding out the true context of what someone says before posting miguided responses either. I can accept that...
@Lamboman717 This is the experimental test theme they had before the show premiered, but reviews showed that fans were not receptive so they went to get the original score-writers for the original Five-0 show to do a re-recording of the theme. This is not the official theme that airs with the show. The new Five-0 show carries the theme song of the original.
@Digideus This was the experimental theme, but after bad reviews of a testing audience, they went back to the original theme and got the original score-writers to re-record it.
@Digideus Yeah, I agree, the official theme they have now is much much better, this one is horribly muted and just not right. It is good that they tested it before hand and was able to change. :)
I watched the pilot and first episode of the new 'Hawaii 5-0' last night and I was so disappointed. I am an avid fan of the original series and to me this is nowhere near as good. The actors are not credible as police officers and there is virtually no investigation. All violence and little storyline. I will not be tuning in again.
@Marakesh7 Too bad for you. I find the show brilliant, there is plenty of storylines and the actors are great at making the little moments count and their characters connect. I am a fan of the original series as well and I think the new show is every bit as good, in fact, some ways even better than the old style investigation where you barely even know the characters. The new Five-0 is as much a character show as it is procedural, and it's an update to a new style and generation.
To anyone who hasn't seen the reboot but hates this theme: The producers were originally going to use this version. But original reviewers of the pilot disliked it. So the original version is the one that the producers went with.
@MRafisahabgems This was the theme that they tested before the show aired, reviews for it were not good so they decided to have the original score-writers for the original show to remix and record the original theme. So if you watch the show, it is the original theme with a tiny bit of remix that is the official theme.
Does ANYBODY watch this show (the re-make)? I tried, but found I was too true and loyal to the original; couldn't get into the new characters or new look at all.
@StudebakerHawk57 Lots of people watch the new show, in fact, the new Five-0 is highly successful, it is the #1 highest rated new drama of this year, it is guaranteed to return for a second season, and one of its actor, Scott Caan who plays Danny Williams, has already been nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor this year for Five-0. So to answer your question, yes, people do watch.
Nice cameo of the statue, that was in the original series. They should 've shown a black Mercury Grand Marquis or Marauder drive by... like the 68 black Mercury Park Lane and Marquis Brougham in the original intro. Kinda sucky compared to the original.
Intros got way shorter now....means more time for commercials and in theory time to tell the story.... A lot of shows have almost no intro, put some credits on the screen during the show or some short credit blocks at the end so fast you can't see them.
I like the original 5-Oh opening... but this is not bad. The theme song is still one of the great all time TV themes.
-Old McGarrett sometimes smirked, but never smiled, Badasses don't smile, and he was the most badass of them all. New McGarrett smiles whenever camera pans to him.
-old Chin Ho was HUGE and no one ever fucked w/ him, period. Could not be killed even by bullets. New Chin Ho is skinny, annoying & SHOULD be shot, multiple times.
-old show won multiple Emmy awards. New show wouldn't win Best New Crime Drama award even if it's only competition was "Hanna Montana".
this show is okay, but when they gonna start making original shows and movies again and stop making spin-offs remakes and shows that copy the formula (and cinematography) of other good shows? It's like Entertainment Industry is really afraid of taking chances and excepting innovation. If they did that, they would have much higher ratings, and way better reviews from critics. And higher rating means more sponsors. And more sponsors means more commercials........
@b1acksa1nt If you watch the original series from the 70s, then the shit pilot Gary Busey tried in 97 with CBS and then this 2010 series. You'll notice differences.
Hawaii Five-0 2010- though draws inspirations from the original it's also a show that stand's on it's own. The actors make the characters there own. Jack Lord's Steve McGarrett is differen't to Alex O'loughlins gotta aprecciate the shows for what they are
this theme is nice but too short, where is the bridge i love the bridge of the classic them. and alil too guitary, also after the intial drum beat there shouldnt be that small pause, it should have that boom them smooth out, still the visual are nice but overall it was way too short 30 more seconds
The only thing I don't like about the new show is that they don't play the theme song long enough. They can play it for at least a minute to a minute and a half.
"lets make another cop/crime show!" - "lets shoot it in Hawaii" - "..lets call it...errr.... CSI Hawaii???" "No, I got it. So people will ACTUALLY remember what they are watching lets steal an old great series name and great recognisable theme tune and totally F**k it up."..... I wont be watching. It will only last a season after the expensive location budget runs out. If you want to make a NEW show, give it a NEW name!
I HATE what they did to the theme. It lacks the feeling and depth of the original. NEVER tech a powerful classic. They're completely stripped it of it's powerful yet nuanced original sound. Yuck!
I think it is nice nod to elements in the original intro while making its own. I can already tell the series doesn't have the quality material to work from like the original series. I wish them luck all the same.
Not a patch on the old show and never will be. Tv back in the 70's and 80's was hard hitting and in your face. Not all watered down political correct rubbish with every police man or woman actor trying to be a pin up model. It never works so why mess with that which was the best the original. I am surprised
"Dog The Bounty Hunter " has not popped up in this modern day remake.
Why don't they use their imaginations and create new shows rather than bastardize the old classics with "gritty" reboots? Everything from Karate Kid to Hawaii 5.0 gets a reboot with modern technology yet minus all of the charisma of the original...
Hi, Does any one know if in the opening shot of Steve McGarrett of the new show is standing on the same builting as the old JACK LORD Steve McGarrett it looks pretty close.Loved the old show, watching the new one its ok.
@BigBearSteve1 yes, steve mcgarrett is in the same building in his opening show as in the original "hawaii five-O" opening: the ilikai hotel in waikiki.
Does any one if it is the same builting in both new and old shots of Steve McGarrett? The 2010 shot of the builting with the new Steve is pretty close. Thank You, Lynn
- Pretty good rendition of the original. I like both versions.
- But I have to say this... Alex O'Loughlin is a sexy beast!!!!
- And when the creators of the H5.0 realized a bunch of people liked the original more, they brought an orchestra in to re-record the theme song and a few of the people in the orchestra had recorded the original theme song as well!! Cool, huh?
The new version of the opening credits does not kick ass, nor does it send the adrenalin pumping. And what's with the copycat of the lead actor on the top of the building? NOoo, he sadly lacks the charisma of Jack Lord and it's all too obvious even from just this 1 or 2 secs. Jack Lord IS Steve McGarrett, no one else comes close.
@lesliefan79 excellently put. I've used those same same words myself. Jack Lord wasn't an actor playing a role. He was A COP. Charisma like that was more common then. Fewer gimmicks and more presence dominated the screen. These kids don't know what they're missing.
@galesayers Friend, i totally agree with you. Everything is so packaged and gimmicky these days. Jack Lord had so much charisma he practically burned up the screen with his presence, what a man!
Why oh WHY is it so damn hard for producers to give re-made shows a decient tribute to the origional. This shitty 30 sec. opener may allow CBS to squeeze in another commercial, but man it is really missing something. And also, am I the only one that is sick of that computer/digital graphics shit used all over the place?
im addicted to this show, esp the fact is that i live on oahu so dont talk shit. lol we have to edure traffic jams and other things just to film this show but for the record its nice to see my home being broad casted to u guys so enjoy it while u guys are stuck in the snow
What's the point of the satellite imagery and the bizarre graphics? They literally look like something you would expect to see on a star trek show, not a cop show set in modern day Hawaii. What, it's 2010 not 1970 so we need all those stupid graphics? Why not throw in some hover cars and jet packs.
@chaser8509 Have you actually seen any episodes of the show? McGarrett is recruited out of a Naval intelligence anti terrorist task force and uses his connections to access military resources like satellite tracking and imagery in several episodes.
Willy.

havent seen the actual episode but hate the new theme!
original was awesome!
MRafisahabgems 1 year ago
To anyone who hasn't seen the reboot but hates this theme: The producers were originally going to use this version. But original reviewers of the pilot disliked it. So the original version is the one that the producers went with.
astrosdude91 1 year ago
@MRafisahabgems This isn't even the official theme that airs with the new show.
BetaArtemis 1 year ago
@BetaArtemis
oh thts good then, thnks!!
MRafisahabgems 1 year ago
@MRafisahabgems This was the theme that they tested before the show aired, reviews for it were not good so they decided to have the original score-writers for the original show to remix and record the original theme. So if you watch the show, it is the original theme with a tiny bit of remix that is the official theme.

Does ANYBODY watch this show (the re-make)? I tried, but found I was too true and loyal to the original; couldn't get into the new characters or new look at all.
"Book 'em, Dano."
StudebakerHawk57 1 year ago

Too short; too compromised. Why redo perfection?

what happened to the great trumpets? why they replace it with electric guitars that sounds horrible
sgtdanny69148 1 year ago
Haha. This intro works a lot better without the music (sorry any Hawaii fans). Needs James Marsters in the credits too.
mrpointy20 1 year ago
first watch the old one, then watch this one n u'll see that some parts r rlly similar :D
Pranckall 1 year ago
Why did they not use this theme?
daamits 1 year ago
Intros got way shorter now....means more time for commercials and in theory time to tell the story.... A lot of shows have almost no intro, put some credits on the screen during the show or some short credit blocks at the end so fast you can't see them.
I like the original 5-Oh opening... but this is not bad. The theme song is still one of the great all time TV themes.
gmcjetpilot 1 year ago
good intro. i can see why it was cut: fans like the original intro better. but this one also rocks.

This themesong really sucks, the original is so much better
geert96 1 year ago
Why this show sucks:
-Old McGarrett sometimes smirked, but never smiled, Badasses don't smile, and he was the most badass of them all. New McGarrett smiles whenever camera pans to him.
-old Chin Ho was HUGE and no one ever fucked w/ him, period. Could not be killed even by bullets. New Chin Ho is skinny, annoying & SHOULD be shot, multiple times.
-old show won multiple Emmy awards. New show wouldn't win Best New Crime Drama award even if it's only competition was "Hanna Montana".

b1acksa1nt 1 year ago
this show is okay, but when they gonna start making original shows and movies again and stop making spin-offs remakes and shows that copy the formula (and cinematography) of other good shows? It's like Entertainment Industry is really afraid of taking chances and excepting innovation. If they did that, they would have much higher ratings, and way better reviews from critics. And higher rating means more sponsors. And more sponsors means more commercials........
b1acksa1nt 1 year ago
@b1acksa1nt If you watch the original series from the 70s, then the shit pilot Gary Busey tried in 97 with CBS and then this 2010 series. You'll notice differences.
Hawaii Five-0 2010- though draws inspirations from the original it's also a show that stand's on it's own. The actors make the characters there own. Jack Lord's Steve McGarrett is differen't to Alex O'loughlins gotta aprecciate the shows for what they are
Brickers 1 year ago
this theme is nice but too short, where is the bridge i love the bridge of the classic them. and alil too guitary, also after the intial drum beat there shouldnt be that small pause, it should have that boom them smooth out, still the visual are nice but overall it was way too short 30 more seconds
riccorich 1 year ago
The only thing I don't like about the new show is that they don't play the theme song long enough. They can play it for at least a minute to a minute and a half.
StephenB58 1 year ago
i think the "old" (original) soundtrack is much better than this!!!

Sorry but the role of Kono should be played by a big man. Frail Grace Park probably weighs around 90 lbs or less.

fixinman 1 year ago
Jemjean, they redid this version and its much better. I agree with you about this version.
karaoke888 1 year ago
I HATE what they did to the theme. It lacks the feeling and depth of the original. NEVER tech a powerful classic. They're completely stripped it of it's powerful yet nuanced original sound. Yuck!
jemjean 1 year ago
I think it is nice nod to elements in the original intro while making its own. I can already tell the series doesn't have the quality material to work from like the original series. I wish them luck all the same.
syouyun 1 year ago
@syouyun luck ain't enough. you've gotta reach for the quality to get the result. they didn't do it.
galesayers 1 year ago
@galesayers I think that is what I said, I don't see the quality.
syouyun 1 year ago
Not a patch on the old show and never will be. Tv back in the 70's and 80's was hard hitting and in your face. Not all watered down political correct rubbish with every police man or woman actor trying to be a pin up model. It never works so why mess with that which was the best the original. I am surprised
"Dog The Bounty Hunter " has not popped up in this modern day remake.

never was a big 5.0 fan, but i always liked the intro. new intro would be better if it was longer with just as much scenery as the older version.
bross001Angus 1 year ago
Why don't they use their imaginations and create new shows rather than bastardize the old classics with "gritty" reboots? Everything from Karate Kid to Hawaii 5.0 gets a reboot with modern technology yet minus all of the charisma of the original...

Hi, Does any one know if in the opening shot of Steve McGarrett of the new show is standing on the same builting as the old JACK LORD Steve McGarrett it looks pretty close.Loved the old show, watching the new one its ok.

@BigBearSteve1 - I was wondering the same thing - it certainly looks identical to me.
OasisShmoasis 1 year ago
@BigBearSteve1 yes, steve mcgarrett is in the same building in his opening show as in the original "hawaii five-O" opening: the ilikai hotel in waikiki.
ozthewerewol4 1 year ago
Does any one if it is the same builting in both new and old shots of Steve McGarrett? The 2010 shot of the builting with the new Steve is pretty close. Thank You, Lynn
BigBearSteve1 1 year ago
- Pretty good rendition of the original. I like both versions.
- But I have to say this... Alex O'Loughlin is a sexy beast!!!!
- And when the creators of the H5.0 realized a bunch of people liked the original more, they brought an orchestra in to re-record the theme song and a few of the people in the orchestra had recorded the original theme song as well!! Cool, huh?
TheRandomShowHQ 1 year ago
they ruined the theme song ;(
Spongink 1 year ago
The new version of the opening credits does not kick ass, nor does it send the adrenalin pumping. And what's with the copycat of the lead actor on the top of the building? NOoo, he sadly lacks the charisma of Jack Lord and it's all too obvious even from just this 1 or 2 secs. Jack Lord IS Steve McGarrett, no one else comes close.
lesliefan79 1 year ago
@lesliefan79 You said it. When I saw Mr. Lord do the full front pivot, I know he meant business. This modern version just pales, and I mean, pales.
In spite of that, Aloha, and Merry Christmas.
Juliaflo 1 year ago
@Juliaflo Hi friend, thanks and same to you:) I have a sudden urge to visit Hawaii again, it's been many years since i was there.
lesliefan79 1 year ago
@lesliefan79 excellently put. I've used those same same words myself. Jack Lord wasn't an actor playing a role. He was A COP. Charisma like that was more common then. Fewer gimmicks and more presence dominated the screen. These kids don't know what they're missing.
galesayers 1 year ago
@galesayers Friend, i totally agree with you. Everything is so packaged and gimmicky these days. Jack Lord had so much charisma he practically burned up the screen with his presence, what a man!

Why oh WHY is it so damn hard for producers to give re-made shows a decient tribute to the origional. This shitty 30 sec. opener may allow CBS to squeeze in another commercial, but man it is really missing something. And also, am I the only one that is sick of that computer/digital graphics shit used all over the place?

What's the point of the satellite imagery and the bizarre graphics? They literally look like something you would expect to see on a star trek show, not a cop show set in modern day Hawaii. What, it's 2010 not 1970 so we need all those stupid graphics? Why not throw in some hover cars and jet packs.
chaser8509 1 year ago
@chaser8509 Have you actually seen any episodes of the show? McGarrett is recruited out of a Naval intelligence anti terrorist task force and uses his connections to access military resources like satellite tracking and imagery in several episodes.
