I met them after there fking great gig. The brothers are nice, especially Gary. I followed Johnny Marr to a rooftop bar near Chinatown in Melbourne. The asshole security guard wouldn't let him in because it was late and they were closing and they didn't know who he was, so we had a big argument with the security. They let him in in the end. He signed my wallet.
@11samwalker Yeah, while that is true, i just think making a song based about hating a band (who were fans of them) is just a bit a low. So yeh...sit down.
@slash377 no its a brilliant song with a strong meaning, i think if a shit band got more famous than me from copying my songs id be pissed so you sit down you fuck.
Have the band actually confirmed this? I've heard it speculated all over the net, but never seen anywhere that the band outright said it's about the pigeon detectives.
At a few gigs, namely at Popscene in San Francisco, they've had a pop at what they would describe as generic indie bands, and namechecked The Kooks and The Fratellis.
So maybe it's not specifically about The Pigeon Detectives.
@StokedDom101 Its the hardest thing in the world to do, never mind that joe satriani stuff. If you can sing a good melody and play a melody on the guitar as well like hendrix or ryan jarman, then you've got something! You have any band videos on youtube?
I don't think Marr has had as much influence as people say. It's obvious they were turning their lyrics towards more serious topics. Marr has replaced the pop punk riffs but it just highlights the lyrics which is probably what they wanted.
@SomethingRules unfortunatley no one agrees with you, and 34 people agree with me. And with a name like 'SomethingRules' your probably a little indecisive, and a cock for thinking your funny leaving a short but sharp comment that isn't justified nor being remotely interesting.
@SomethingRules Exactly. They arent popular, which is why I feel so priveleged to know about them. But you obviously base good music on weather it features in the charts along side tinie tyncher and god knows what else.
Same. I got the New Fellas for Crimbo, loved it that much i brought, the 1st album and 4th and a DVD of them at Brundell social club, the following week.
+you also stated in another comment that they are doing othing different when acctualy johnny joining the band has made alot of change to their sound the are alot less low fi thats for sure!
They"ll go on to disappear without trace. Nothing to see or hear here we haven't seen before and better. Unless maybe you're 12, then it might seem new I suppose.
Well that reply pretty much shows the average age of the Cribs' fanbase. They know their target market, I'll give them that. Bass player still sings flat and at the limit of his feeble lungs though.
dude its not the point of the band no one gives a shit bout his voice its the charm of the band they are a diy sound sound, the first two albums were recored on a 8 track, its raw un edited music. look by all means have your own opinion even if its wrong, sorry if i sound like a clichie youtube abuser
Thought I would give them a chance on the basis that Marr was with them. I don't agree with them that their audience is bovine, more sheep-like. All facing the same way and going 'baaaah'
mate you wouldnt know good music if it nailed you round the back of the head. The cribs are epic with or without johnny so go back to your pop or start apreciating whats good fagit!
Your taste in music is as accurate as your spelling. There's nothing wrong with good pop, by the way, but it's a different genre and it's hardly relevant to this discussion is it? Some people might argue The Smiths were a pop band, they certainly had catchy tunes. The problem with your heart throbs is that they are simply doing nothing new or interesting, only pandering to your teen angst. Nice display of homophobia btw, always impressive that.
The cribs will be legendery you have no idea what good music is and stop trying to sound intelligant becuase if you had some sense you wouldnt have left such a ludacris comment in the first place!
If you had some sense you'd learn how to spell. I am not trying to sound intelligent, this is how grown -ups talk. Legendary my ass, you will have forgotten all about them in 12 months when your balls drop.
Ive read all of your previous comments, your only comeback is to say you cant spell, im an avid cribs fan i have been since they first released theyre music, so grow a dick and pipe down.
I didn't say I couldn't spell, maybe you can't read? Sam, this sort of aggressive illiterate response is not a good advert for the intelligence of the average Cribs fan is it? Think about that quietly in your room for a while, then come back downstairs.
u not my mother, a cribs fan dont always have to be inteligent im 15 im still at school so i have time to gain on you, soo how about you do what i said and pipe down if you didnt care about the cribs you wouldnt be so bothered about comenting so much on this.
But aren't you missing the point? I'd suggest that their new album is a big change in direction from their raw, infectious, secular earlier recordings - yet they still manage to keep their edge. I've grown up with them, and im now in my mid 20's and still see them at the cutting edge of the music scene. Why do they need to change when they are producing a winning formula? They may never hit superstardom - so what? they make catchy innocent pop songs, put out there for us to enjoy.
Cutting edge? Oh come on, that's one thing they are definitely not. They are very traditional, nothing wrong with that, but they aren't breaking any new ground. Perhaps they will mature into a workmanlike band in a few years time and will chug comfortably along earning enough money to pay the mortgages. Depends whether you all remain loyal, I rather feel you wont.
Sunbeam 11 - Perhaps you'd like to enlighten us as to your particular tastes in music. It's always safer to hide behind criticism rather than reveal ones own favourites isn't it?
Oh dear, why is it necessary to list the contents of my ipod or the 300+ vinyl albums under the shelf? I listen to many styles of music from rap to modern jazz and always have. My favourite track one month is not my favourite the next, which is as it should be surely?
I merely wondered what sort of thing you liked. Because you seem to spend a lot of time on Cribs Videos slating them. I'd agree with you that favourite tracks change from month to month but to constantly criticise the tastes of others whilst not putting your own tastes up for similar scrutiny seems somehow weak.
The Cribs will disappear without trace? Hardly. They started off at the bottom, built a loyal fanbase, and have succeeded in this industry for years ON THEIR OWN TERMS, and with a record label (Wichita) that supports them.
Are you someone who judges bands/artists by what they appear to be doing in the mainstream? The ones who are likely to disappear without trace are all of these reality tv wannabes who are under heavy pressure to succeed with unrealistic expectations from big record labels.
The other thing I note about your comment is that you appear to be insulting what you consider to be a typical Cribs fanbase. They attract people of all ages, there is no need for snobbery.
Very few bands today make it to their fourth album, but this is the situation we see here. Therefore, your insinuation that they will disappear in a year couldn't be further from the truth.
You've given your opinion, and I've given mine. I just thought I'd point out some facts without being insulting to the band and fans, as you have been.
Well time will prove everything, as Marr's old mate Mozzer often says. My opinion remains that this band has not got real depth or potential longevity,
Yeah,he's been touring since last year and plays on the new album "Ignore The Ignorant" which is released 7th Sept in the UK,don't know US release date.

I totally get what cryptkeeper5 is saying man, The Cribs are the only contempory band that I'm in love with.
I'm so glad that I'm able to see them live and not just have to make do with records of live gigs
The Cribs fuckin rock!!!!
