They recorded a live album at Warehouse which is my local alternative club in Preston, it's pretty much the coolest thing around me so thanks Joy Division :D
It's nice to see opinions on these albums, as much as I like being exposed to new stuff, I like what you've done with the older albums as a reflection, I see they way you describe things has become more descriptive and expressive too, which is nice. I'm from Manchester \o it's a pleasure to still see their work being appreciated.
I just discovered your videos recently and they are excellent! and Im so glad you reviewed older albums including this from one of my all time favourites from my home town. You did a great job, you should review or listen to Substance by joy division if you havnt already, released after Ian's death a superb compilation of unreleased stuff, b sides and song made as warsaw that album introduced me to joy division and is the one I turn to the most. Keep up the great work!
As a solid Joy Division fan, i would agree with you totally, that Closer had its periods where it was my favorite Joy Division release and vice-versa.
The amount of people I’ve seen wearing this t-shirt in Manchester is ridiculous. I don’t really get it tbh. Joy division’s music doesn’t move me as much as (it seems) the majority of people.
God, I love this album, and Joy Division. And I'd just like to say that singers like Ian Curtis (and Matt Berninger and Leonard Cohen) have really done a lot to solidify baritones as a legitimate and completely refreshing option in a massive fucking ocean of tenor rock singers. And I can't thank them enough. I don't think I would have gotten as hooked to Joy Division as I did if I weren't a baritone and didn't feel so outcast because nobody wants to hear a band without a tenor lead. Thank you.
great review man. i really enjoy the videos cause not only do you put out content worth watching you also interact with your viewers a lot more then others of your "kin" which is some thing i really appreciate. keep it up.
This album is so great, I didn't know who I was until I could sit down and listen to this album and take it in. One thing I have to point out is in the Joy Division documentary, one of the band members points out how they never really took notice of what Ian Curtis was saying in his lyrics, but in light of his suicide, they were "daft" for that reason.
@Threecreation yeah as much as I love their music, Ian Curtis was actually a pretty weak person. He was cheating on his wife and he was a neglectful father. From what I gather he felt pretty guilty for cheating on his wife, but he kept sleeping with that French bird anyway. I know his epilepsy was really bothering him too.
@TheSethIkrass although he was never diagnosed people close to him now say it is pretty obvious that he was bi-polar which explains a lot of his behaviour and the different sides to ian curtis. Also back then treatment of epilepsy was pretty bad, the drugs did more worse then good not that im defending him being a bad husband and father.
@aldc84 I know they think he had bipolar but that is just heresay. I have epilepsy so I can relate to the frustrations that come with it. Also, allot of people have stereotypical concepts about mental illnesses. Wild moods swings and bipola are not the same thing. My mother had bipolar (she suffered the same fate as Ian). In any rate I think I enjoy JD music more so because I relate so much to their music and the back story, it helps me find closure.
@TheSethIkrass If you read , 'touching from a distance' which was written by his wife it goes in to greater description of what he went through. I wouldn't call him a weak person but I also cant say for sure that he had bi-polar although the signs are there.
Do Blink 182's new album called Neighborhoods.
