A lot of people buy Corvettes for the heritage, so GM has an advantage there, haha. There just really isn't any competition anymore for the Corvettes on an American level. The base model Vette is faster than the Shelby GT500 I think, and its because the GT500 weighs 2 tons, so hp to lbs ratio=not enough haha.

If a base Corvette can be bought for around $45,000 at a Chevy dealer, I can't see how or why they would have to ask over $110,000 for this model. The Z06 is way overpriced over the base car, so this one plain nuts...

@a6km The zr1 engine is the only super car that can hit 100k miles with nomajopr engine work. It can handle huge amount sof horsepower and Geiger has already announced they think it can handle 1000hp with no major drivetrain mods. This engine is bullet proof there is nothing poorly built about this car.

@chaldochamp3 because GM is 20 years behind the rest of the world in technology, carbon fibre or aluminium these days mean nothing, it might sound exotic but it isn't any more. Audi is using aluminium technology since 1994 for example .... its not about going fast in a straight line it takes a hell of a lot more these days.

@chaldochamp3 for a professional driver yes but for you or me not really. Don't forget that they use professionals to do the fun stuff like power slides etc when they testing them. Average driver will struggle with the vette big time. A 600cc motorcycle with no mods and street tyres is about 10 to 15 seconds faster a lap around the Eastern Creek then the vette which says a lot.
@a6km GM is far from 20 years behind. I have followed GM products for over 27 yrs and probably worked on many more cars than yourself. After working for Mercedes for several years, tech is not always a good thing. in 1987, the Grand National ran 0-60 in 4.9 seconds, weighed 3500 lbs, automatic, single turbo V6, SFI for 25 mpg hwy @ 17K. Where was everyone else? far behind. When Callaway drove 254 mph in a factory chassis C4 in 88 with A/C, sterero and less than 1,000 hp, where was everyone else?
@a6km Audi has nothing for the ZR1 in any performance category so they are a non-factor. Ferrari uses the latest technology and makes 495 hp out of the 4.3L V8. The only problem is, it gets about 1/2 of the mpg as the LS7 in the ZO6 and is a major polluter. Just because I can make an engine use multiple cams, advance timing on intake/exhaust cams using solenoids, doesn't make it the best setup, just heavier and more complicated. GM with the OHV design wins in mpg,torque, engine size and weight.
if you listen closely to when you shift gears in a vette is sounds like......"aaaaaa-meeeerrr-riiiiiiiii-caaaaaaa" lol NOTHING beats american muscle....except the bugati (totally over-rated)

and the zr1 has better numbers not just in lap-times in every test

That's out of my space of understanding as ZR1 or Corvettes even generally has had the best bang for the buck for a LOOOOONG time. ZR1 has a price tag fraction of the Lambo Gallardo's price (for example) and still it gives Gallardo a spanking if needed. And MANY other European "sports car" along...

If a base Corvette can be bought for around $45,000 at a Chevy dealer, I can't see how or why they would have to ask over $110,000 for this model. The Z06 is way overpriced over the base car, so this one plain nuts...

@a6km The zr1 engine is the only super car that can hit 100k miles with nomajopr engine work. It can handle huge amount sof horsepower and Geiger has already announced they think it can handle 1000hp with no major drivetrain mods. This engine is bullet proof there is nothing poorly built about this car.

@chaldochamp3 because GM is 20 years behind the rest of the world in technology, carbon fibre or aluminium these days mean nothing, it might sound exotic but it isn't any more. Audi is using aluminium technology since 1994 for example .... its not about going fast in a straight line it takes a hell of a lot more these days.

@chaldochamp3 for a professional driver yes but for you or me not really. Don't forget that they use professionals to do the fun stuff like power slides etc when they testing them. Average driver will struggle with the vette big time. A 600cc motorcycle with no mods and street tyres is about 10 to 15 seconds faster a lap around the Eastern Creek then the vette which says a lot.

@a6km GM is far from 20 years behind. I have followed GM products for over 27 yrs and probably worked on many more cars than yourself. After working for Mercedes for several years, tech is not always a good thing. in 1987, the Grand National ran 0-60 in 4.9 seconds, weighed 3500 lbs, automatic, single turbo V6, SFI for 25 mpg hwy @ 17K. Where was everyone else? far behind. When Callaway drove 254 mph in a factory chassis C4 in 88 with A/C, sterero and less than 1,000 hp, where was everyone else?

@a6km Audi has nothing for the ZR1 in any performance category so they are a non-factor. Ferrari uses the latest technology and makes 495 hp out of the 4.3L V8. The only problem is, it gets about 1/2 of the mpg as the LS7 in the ZO6 and is a major polluter. Just because I can make an engine use multiple cams, advance timing on intake/exhaust cams using solenoids, doesn't make it the best setup, just heavier and more complicated. GM with the OHV design wins in mpg,torque, engine size and weight.
