I was on a college campus. I saw a group of students registering votes against Obamacare. They realized they will be paying taxes (in term of penalty) in the year 2012 onward. No amount of government subsidization can lower their bill since they don't 1. go to hospital 2. buy an insurance 3. pay for any health related sickness. Essentially, they were paying ZERO dollars because they are healthy. Obamacare will force them to pay a tax.

Until those costs are brought back down to what an person can really afford (i.e. sliding scale based on income), then it will continue to be a price gouging industry. There are some out there that have to live paycheck to paycheck and make their fiances last when it comes down to basic living expenses (rent, food, utilities). When the cost of healtcare starts approaching what one pays in rent, it is no longer affordable. Also there are those that go in and out of temp jobs and other jobs liek trucking where your income fluctuates. A person has the right to manage his/her expenses in order to live.
My (individually bought) Blue Cross was great....till last month. It went up 35%. AND in the last 6 mos, we have made 1/2 of what we made 2 years ago. Savings is dwindling fast.....please Lord, let this economy bounce back before we run out of savings and are forced to go on welfare and get food stamps. I wouldn't know where to start doing that.

the only thing I see is that health insurers will still continue to ration care so define affordable. Does it mean I'm covered 100% for everything or am I paying something after the fact. Is there such a thing as life saving operations being covered in full or am I still bankrupt after maintaining my premiums. I say let the overcharging hospitals and providers go broke, close down, and let a new fiscally managed structure come in that doesn't overcharge the public for living.

All he had to do was decriminalize marijuana and let hospitals sell marijuana and set their own price range, give tax cuts to hospitals that run such programs, and set up pools based on the hospital's sales of marijuana. I was on a college campus. I saw a group of students registering votes against Obamacare. They realized they will be paying taxes (in term of penalty) in the year 2012 onward. No amount of government subsidization can lower their bill since they don't 1. go to hospital 2. buy an insurance 3. pay for any health related sickness. Essentially, they were paying ZERO dollars because they are healthy. Obamacare will force them to pay a tax.

Thus far the cost of health insurance has gone up dramatically prior to the institution of certain aspects of the healthcare bill and current estimates are the bill will contine to add to costs. Its obviously paid for by the hospital since they are the ones caring for the patient. Hospitals don't just have a tree to grow money for uninsured emergency room visits. Wake up. If we make the uninsured pay for themselves, the savings will be passed on to us. And BTW HEALTH CARE IS ALREADY RATIONED. The only difference in most cases is that your employer rations what you get rather than the gov.

Until those costs are brought back down to what an person can really afford (i.e. sliding scale based on income), then it will continue to be a price gouging industry. Health insurance is just a middle man in all of this. Frankly it is a sick system.

There are some out there that have to live paycheck to paycheck and make their fiances last when it comes down to basic living expenses (rent, food, utilities). When the cost of healtcare starts approaching what one pays in rent, it is no longer affordable. Also there are those that go in and out of temp jobs and other jobs liek trucking where your income fluctuates. A person has the right to manage his/her expenses in order to live.

The enforcement will be simple. New tax forms to fill out every year. You report your insurance on these forms. If you don't have any, a percentage of your total taxable income is hit on your tax return. I don't know what you mean when you say "print money and hand it to the insurance companies." The money taken from this tax will go straight to Obama and Co. They don't have any intention of giving money to the insurance companies. Running them out is more like it.

Incredible he stands there and thinks he's not taxing by forcing others to buy something against thier will. Some premiums went up over a 100 percent cause this crap got passed. Car insurance is not something I ever needed. Obama is a fool to say we hate paying for others healthcare while he puts more people into programs that we support with taxes. Kill every single insurance and government program and healthcare will drop on it's own. It would have to in order to survive.

@wndwlkr68 the mandate is easily challenged and govt. doesn't see what the individual goes through day in and day out when it comes to getting by on temp. jobs or getting paid shit wages. Honestly over the years, govt has shot itself in the foot by letting jobs be exported/outsourced so that will strain the system. What we have had over the decades is a very short sighted govt and they haven't addressed much of anything in the real world. One just has to sit back, enjoy the ride and vote.

Premiums are going up, not down; the CBO has stated clearly that it is NOT deficit neutral; an individual mandate is a TAX. Hey Barry...next time, why don't you consult an ACTUARY!!!
