Happiness today was my ex boyfriend throwing leaves into the sky above my head and singing, "It's summer! It's SUMMER!".

It was also him helping me pick the bits of leaf out of my hair afterward. =]

Happiness was playing footy with my brother.

It was doing well on my QCAT exams and it was also knowing that I can sleep in tomorrow.

Happiness was seeing your jumper as you talked about being happy.

And I didn't realise all these things until you brought them to my attention

It's not about being happy when sad things happen. It's good to feel a range of emotions. But I don't find any reason to dwell on sadness. I like to recognise it then move on. =]

It's more a question of clarity than volume. And production values. To the extent that your face isn't seen at all it would've been the perfect opportunity to overdub something close miked (and not need to sync it very carefully).
