  • China is really good too, and Chariots of Fire.

  • Albedo 0.39 and Spiral are my Vangelis favourite albums.

  • Im just now listening to this on the TV music channels and it was so calming for some reason. I was trying to calm my sister down and this song thing came on, she went to sleep in 2 seconds xDDDD

  • Always loved this one. Have the vinyl album (yeah, I'm THAT old...!). Used to listen to it over and over as a teenager. Love Space, love the Synths... great piece to sit and listen to, close your eyes, and send your mind OUT THERE........ Thanks for posting, friend.

  • Clissic track?? I ment Classic track... Stupid keyboard!

  • DELILAH Go, the charts 09-2011, has sampled this clissic track. Just increased the BPM some-what. It is a fair song, but they should have acknowledged Vangelis and not just Chaka Khan...

  • So appropriate that I link to this seeing as how I just watched some footage of Christina Hendricks' fabulous twin astral bodies accompanied by a brief piece of Vangelis' music!

  • spunkmeierDK thank you... makes US think about what WE are on Earth...

  • listened to this way back.....never forgotten

  • 3:16 and next ... this is musiqal touch of GOD

  • i forget everything when i here this .thats the magic of vangelis ,

  • That has just taken me to a different place... And I like that place...

  • This is a good video. you should have put annotations or text-background though, some of it was hard to read. no problem though. Good work (Y)

  • That is the way the official video of this track should look like.

  • This song should be mandatory for ALL radio stations to play every 4 hours.

  • ...and you wonder why I'm an atheist...

  • Hey, he sounds like me!

  • "PER SECOND PER SECOND" - I heard you the first time!

  • @clydebear you ain't serious about that right? I mean, it's a joke no? xD

  • But actually Earth´s Albedo is 0.37, but sounds terrible....

  • ¡Big master Vangelis, he creates worlds with his music!

    ALBEDO 0.39 ---- ALBEDo 0.39 --- ALBEdo 0.39 --- ALBedo 0.39 --- Albedo 0.39 --- ...

  • its as if someone had come in from another galaxy and presented a beautiful cataloged planet well suited for sustaining life.

  • I bought this album when it first came out, (LP). I got hooked on the music of Vangelis ever since. I borrowed this track in one of my Super-8 projects about space and Apollo missions. Got an A+. This track really hits home because you know the narrator is describing our Earth. Read what "Albedo 0.39" really means. You'll be amazed. Thank you for posting this - sure brings back a lot of spacey memories.

  • This would make a perfect theme in a Blade Runner sequel!! Is there a version of this song without the speaking voice?

  • the sounds Vangelis produces are amazing.

    This track gives me shivers.

Epic, Beautiful and mesmerising at the same time

  • If Ineed to remember the basic facts, I just think of this song. Should'nt we do this to all vital facts,;a song for the table of elements, another for prime numbers?

  • @1969alias There is a song called the Element Song , on youtube...

  • and i'd rather be a geek than an ignorant pea brain!

  • the earth and universe were talking to vangelis when they made this one. bought this in the lates 70's as a teen and it still gives me shivers. an expansive revelation every time. our lives craw along on an incredibly immense and precisioned planetary system.

  • I bought this album in the 10th grade during the sci-fi planetarium craze. Needless to say it was a journey I feel lucky to have been part of & has had much influence on the rest of my life. From Tomita, Holst Planets to Tiesto of today the spirit lives on.

  • Yes indeed, Missa Luba was used in the film IF. Thanks for prodding my memory. That was the first time I heard it in fact.

  • beatiful video, mesmerizing music

  • Timeless!

  • Just simply beautiful.

  • It's an amazing track made in 1976 !!!

And the video is very good too.

    A very nice work.

    Congratulations.

    *****

  • Not sure if anyone's pointed this out yet but this space song with space facts is, in length, 4:20.

  • How long is a mile? we cannot have

    these measurements which is not

    accepted!

  • AlbedoFan

    Very well said.

I love this track, I first heard it on Radio Caroline (Showing my age) and I went out and bought the Album the next day, that was a long time ago.

  • I like this song a lot. Does a purely instrumental version of this song exist? I'd like to hear it without the vocals.

  • He is giving the stats of "SOL 3" aka Earth.

Albedo is the measerument of how much sunlight either earth recevies or reflects.

Been decades sicne I was in school. ;)

  • Reflection. The albedo at the time of this record was 39% reflection.

  • A perfect combination of science and emotions. I love this track.

  • I am really fucking crazy pseudo intellectual, I don't have a god damn idea about what measurment that guy is talking, but4 I still enjoy to listen to Vangelis, and all these geeky electronic bands.

  • There's really nothing geeky about Vangelis.

  • I was tottally hooked whenCosmos AND harts of Space -radio new agey stuff came on the air+, .pure art . Sweet..and it sciences...

  • Awesome !

    Thanks !!!

  • I just love Van-Jello-brand pudding!!!

This track was one of my all time favorites!!!

The vocal just seems to go with the music!!

Everytime I listen to this, I just space out!!!!

A very nice effort indeed!!! Nice Video!!!

I enjoyed every nano second of it!!!

  • I can't belive this is considered to be a song!! But good

  • I love Vangelis...

    & this piece.

I used "Dervish D" in one of my vids.

    I like this

Very Well Done. It's a win!

  • Igual que J M Jarre, impresionante y cosmico. La musica culta de la era informatica.

  • I'm guessing the albedo of a planet can change, since it's now 0.367. It was probably an estimate to begin with.

  • "It was probably an estimate to begin with"

Perhaps more accurate measurement today ;-)

  • This always will be amazing to me!

  • Thank you

  • Music from Vangelis and Jean-Michel Jarre always seem to take you on a voyage into deepspace!

  • Very cosmic. Thanks for posting one of the best pieces I've ever heard.

  • What I want to know is who weighed the earth in the first place. Whoever it was is one strong fucker! 6600,000,000,000,000,000,000 tonnes is a bit heavy for me.

  • Exactly my thoughts!

    Maybe it was Atlas. ^_^

  • its about the size of the US budget deficit these days!

  • Interesting! Thank you for this video!

  • Thank you M.

You were lucky to have such a cool father hehe! ;-)

  • its true or should i say the truth! our planet is another spaceship gliding thru the vast & infinite space..instead of thinking only of our small & petty selves we must try and make it a better place for our childrens, childrens children..this can happen only IF & WHEN we rise above our own self created prisons of race, creed, country, tribe, etc. etc. i am sure this track & others like it help..a great one Mr. Vangelis..keep it up & help restore the sanity of us HUMAN BECOMINGS!! DIG IT GUYS?

  • @ranjanchadha It is thinking like this that holds the human race (spaceship) back. We owe nothing to anyone except ourselves.

Future generations need to fend for themselves with what we don't use. By maximizing our use of this planet and the planets around us, we grow as fast as possible and live as well as we possibly can.

Recycling only prevents better products from becoming necessary and thus holds us back.

    Let a thousand flowers bloom!

  • @shadowpigglet Whose to say what is back or forward. Recycling is the only way, for in the end it is only round and round! Not with better products but by learning to live with nature without trying to conquer it, can thousands of flowers bloom. Saving the planet is an audacious thought & attitude. We can not add a single drop of water or air to this space ship. It is all recycled. There is no fresh air or water . Our ancestors breathed this very air & drank this very water. Have a safe journey!

  • the synthlead in the background gives me goosebumps - vast, endless, untold, unexplicable, reaching eternity at the end of time, unfolding new universe

  • @jokijarvi Vangeli is a genius of electromusic and one of biger composer since 1966.year till now from film, series, images, landscapes and cosmos......

  • @jokijarvi Somewhere the (only) instrumental version ??????

  • I appear to be narrating a 1960s progressive electronica album.

((( @jokijarvi INexplicable. :p Otherwise entirely agreed. Gave me goosebumps about 23 years ago when I first heard it. Rest of the album is also good! Even when it breaks into jazz (not so much)! )))

Shit, the voice really does sound like me!

Length of the mean solar day: 24 hours, 3 minutes, 56.555 seconds, mean solar time.

Albedo 0.39.... Possibly a bit down these days with the initial melting of the polar icecaps...

  • The music certainly feels like you could interact with the infinite, but then again, isn't that what space is?

  • @compxci they say Space ends somewhere.

  • @compxci Yes, well, when they prove that it is finite, then I will recast my vote

  • I first heard this Vangelis album in Denver years ago, absorbed the song thoroughly; The other day I watched a shadow slide on my desk as earth circled the sun and this song came to mind and, of course, I found it on YouTube! I agree with ospTube, kids should learn this it gives such a perspective. Thanks for posting

  • Great tune..Nice vid +++

  • the video really enhances this beautiful masterpiece by vangelis

  • You made a *perfect* video for this music. There's no albedo for it - it gleams for itself.

  • I remember buying this album a few years back and the cold synth's just are simply amazing.

  • Very educational and informative song, masterpiece!

  • Very well done! Brings back memories of better days with my older brother. He bought that album for me back in the 80's and I wore it out! Nice editing. Thanks for the memories!

  • To: 'default1976'

Try it again, but this time at night, alone in the dark, with quality headphones, turn up the volume a bit to really hear all the details, and close your eyes. Come on you cannot like the album and not like this song ;)

  • beautiful done!

  • Hello? Oh right!... I am on earth. I think kids should learn this before they walk. Puts things in perspective.

  • i have this album and enjoy it greatly, especially this song. So soothing and informative!

  • i used to not like this song, but one time i buckled down and listened to it and now its one of my favorite songs

  • Yeah, excellent clip for one of the greatest Vangelis tracks. Very good edited. Congratulations!!

  • What is that?

  • A very good Experimental, Ambient song. And educational.

  • i love the background sound of those snthetizers, that sound today doesn't exist, simply marvelous!

  • This, of course, appeared verbatim in "COSMOS". But my question is, was it recorded with the voices as sample material for Vangelis, or was COSMOS written *after* this was written by Vangelis?

  • cosmos is from 1980, and this song aws recorded in 1976, with the narration of keith spencer allen, the sound engeneer of vangelis in that time.....

  • Thanks for the info!

  • i turned my 9yo on to this and was surprised to find a new vangelis fan! in the 80's we'd take a brake from studies and go for a drive, "fire one up", park in a star lit field, crank on 0.39 and gaze out at the sky. blissss! 0.39 - a signature of earths uniqness.

  • newton--the smartest human ever--figured out all these details at the 17th century...much respect!!

  • Thank you.

  • loony.

  • Great song.

It's Techno Ambiant before techno Ambiant !

  • Vangelis : the best musician EVER !!!

  • The term albedo (derived from albus, a Latin word for "white) is commonly used to applied to the overall average reflection coefficient of an object. For example, the albedo of the Earth is 0.39 Well that is what it was in 1976 when The great Vangelis recorded this what it is now with the advent of global warming. Ice caps melting I don't know? ALBEDO O.30 Maybe? like your pics ****

  • I used to go out on my balcony (23rd floor) around 3am in the summer and have the album "Soil Festivities" playing in the background. That album is the first time I heard this tune and it gave me shivers! Looking at the stars and the city (Toronto) late at night; the quiet streets. (And some, ahem, mood enhancing beverages and others...

    :D

    Thanks for sharing!

  • when i was a teenager i used to love coming home after a night on the 'herb' and put on my vangelis albums.. ah, happy days.

  • This reminds me of my pet duck "Larry" - God i miss him :(

  • I listen to this album and especially this track everynight before I go to bed.

  • 6600 m m m tons ... :)
