I am white, and I understand the hurt of racism. I have a degree which is related to my job. I finished my project ahead of schedule. But when promotion time came it was a black girl with only a high school education who got the job. When I questioned my boss he told me that the company is an affirmative action employer.

There were classes where I was the only one because even the teacher was Hispanic too. Many of them were nice to me though, and I didn't have to deal with gangs. The meanest ones I had to deal with just verbally cut on me and laughed at me. My best Friend, Hortencia, was more of a friend to me than my peers at CHURCH, mind you!

I see a lot of Russians here), but while I know they can be just as racist I've never caught notice of it. I've caught more heat from black people in Arkansas than I EVER caught from Hispanics. Maybe Santa Paula, CA is just a more pleasant city than others.

@chsn09 It's funny you say that. In Arkansas, I invited a black friend to help me decorate for Christmas in exchange for cooking a nice dinner along with other friends. She couldn't make it, but let her 18 y/o daughter and 16 y/o son come with me and my other friends had noticed how sooo very polite they were! And my friend Courtney is the same way. I'm 10 years older and so she calls me "Miss Barbara" and even calls my cat "Miss Precious." Lol

And it never occurs to me to ask... now that I think of it, I DO remember asking a fellow airman in the A.F. if she was Hispanic or black because I honestly couldn't tell. She said she was black but had some "Hispanic" in her as well so I guess I have. And when I was in the Air Force I saw a lot of b.s. that was to be expected, but never prejudice I think.

I think I'd picked up a bit of a prejudice attitude as a child (until my dad brought it to a screeching halt!) but with so much intermingling throughout my life I learned to be very accepting of all people and to only be concerned about their personalities. My dating preferences are a lot pickier, but friends? Don't care!

@chsn09 Well, in my Multicultural Perspectives in Theatre class I was told race isn't the same as nationality (Mexican, German, American...). I was told there that it was social position rather than color of skin or where someone was from. I guess it just depends on who you ask.

@chsn09 Oh, I was born and raised in southern California, then I joined the Air Force. Little Rock Air Force Base was my last station and when I got out I still had ties. So I lived there for 7 years as a civilian (that's where the black prejudice became a problem, never in the Air Force). Then they either got out or transfered and I got sick and tired of the climate... and the bad drivers! At least here in Sacramento the transit makes it bearable not to have a car.

I can certainly understand the need to stop ILLEGAL immigration, but people need to lay off other people just because their skin looks different. There is no place in deciding unless someone works in immigration whether someone is here legally or otherwise. I just watched the video about the boy saying how he was treated when he seems to be here LEGALLY. Let's treat people respectfully and only take action against someone's entry if there is just cause to do so!!

Homeland Security treated an Aussie gentleman who tried to come and meet some YouTube friends under the Visa Waiver Program like garbage and sent him right back to Australia, and to add insult to injury there's this fred... person who just goes to his video and rubs in how "his case is inadmissible." Whatever, he ticked me off almost as much as H.S. did for accusing Daniel of being a terrorist!

@chsn09 Everyone who speaks in the trailer is legally present. The man who says "we ain't goin' no where" is a legal resident. The man who says his son asked him, "If people don't like us why don't we just move out?" is also a citizen. In the feature film there is only one speaker who is undocumented. The film is about how citizens of all races deal with a rapid demographic shift that saw the Hispanic population grow from 5 to 19.1% in 15 years.

Great question Shanana. There were no reliable studies, and there was no research conducted. But there was certainly a perception that the number of people in the county who lacked legal status had grown during the same time the Hispanic population had grown.

It doesn't take someone born out of the country to do something that sick and twisted, just a very sick and twisted mind which could have come from any part of the world, as we all have our share from the North Pole to Antarctica. And yes, people need to be polite to others regardless. I wouldn't be asking Osama Bin Laden to tea, but I sure as heck wouldn't be hurling insults at him either! I've got better things to do with my time and energy!!

Those hijackers were here legally and in fact trained on our military bases. Its disturbing when you really think about it. What about the anthrax attacks that followed. They were carried out by military officers at Fort Dix.
I think immigrants have become the scapegoat for problems we created, redistribution of wealth. Just because something is made illegal doesn't make it just. I think we can all agree with that assessment from Bastiat.
