  • She is one of the few who sound so amazing singing live! I would really love to see her perform live hopefully I get the chance <3 BFL is AMAZING :)

  • she sounds just like the album and her band is kickass with those instruments

  • Thanks for uploading this, KidEh1979, I always come back to this version. It's so much more raw than the polished album version - the snare drum, the slight messy-ness of the piano... much more superior in my mind!

  • i love that head-thing ! Awesome

  • penacho!

  • they have to come to israel

  • Bjork when to a Bat For Lashes concert. She is a fan ha-ha love them both.

  • and also that blonde girl doing the backing vocals is amazing. anyone know who that is?

  • I think i used to use a Yamaha snare like that, until my instructor bought a Pearl Philharmonic =)

  • this song reminds me of a fairytale taking place :)

  • One of the best live performers on the planet, now fuck off and leave us in peace..peace !

  • Love this! The words of this song are epic you can smell the forest....great live performance, love how everyone on stage glitters....

  • I. want. that. HAT!

  • She is not like Bjork at all, listen to more of her music first before saying ignorant things like that.

  • she is good but im sorry bjork is just on another level......

  • This is an EPIC performance!

  • Love this song soooooo much!

  • you know, you sohouldn't debate or start quarrels. you should just enjoy the music.

  • @anckr again, I'm sorry that you lack musical knowledge, I'm a BFL fan, but also a MASSIVE bjork fan, and the two sound NOTHING alike, bjork has a grain to her voice and sings full whack,,,kinda like kurt cobain did. Natasha sounds very smooth and melodic in comparison.

  • one of my favorite songs by Bat for Lashes!!! :-D

  • This song makes me think of The Legend of Zelda.

  • @tytoalba actually I think that this song would be great for a epona-link video tribute

  • Herregud och jag upptäckte precis hennes musik, hon är ju otrolig!

  • Hennes musik är magisk!

  • awesome song, I love the high pitch wale that she does :)

  • until I saw this, I could have sworn that was a theremin.

  • she looks SO young, she looks like she could be 16 or 17 !

  • yahhh.i tot so too!!!

    hahaha!

  • Bellissima!!!!!

  • yay i was there

  • OMG her voice is like butter. <3

  • They sang to me, "This is yours to wear. You're the chosen one, there's no turning back"

    (8)

  • For me, one of the best surprises of the last years. Fell in love with it the first time i listened. Hope I get the chance to see them live one of these days.

  • She's like synergy...like a concoction of Tori Amos, Bjork, and Kate Bush...but not them at all. She reminds me of all three, but then again, she's her own artist. Amazing.

  • I completely agree! I thought the same thing when I first heard her. She's amazing.

  • yup, she's so magnetic! I just saw her 2 days ago and cannot get over the show, i wanna keep watching and watching youtube videos of BFL

  • Sorry...I agree with you but with a Smattering of Old Cat Power...and sprinkling of Imogen Heap

  • She couldn't sound like Imogen Heap. She can actually sing. Imogen has to autotune

  • Imogen Heap doesn't have to autotune, she just loves the digital sound it brings to her music. If you think she can't sing, watch her sing "Blanket" with Jeff Beck.

  • Who's that sour-faced girl on the drums? Every time i see her on one of these vids she always looks like she can't be botherd to be there.

  • but she kicks fuckin ass

  • wow, I have to say, I think I like this more than the album version. And her hat is just amazing! love love love her

  • I never thought there would be anyone better than Tori A!

  • yea,h they seem really influencecd by bjork.....

    love her

  • i la la la la love her *___________*

  • she's not like kate bush at all!!!!

  • sorry to piss anyone off. but she's NOTHING like bjork. she's probably more similar to kate bush than bjork..

  • I Agree if anyone really heard Kate Bush she is more like her.

    Still good through

  • wow assholes can really make stupid comments

  • yeah she reminds me of bjork.

  • bjork for lashes.

  • Meant to be a compliment :)

  • she reminds me of one of the lost boys from Peter Pan here

  • Really sweet, sparse and lovely

  • juste magique!

  • TemaZO

  • Great performance.

  • she is at the pinnacle of music tomorrow.

  • So talented, all of them

  • Hello if any of you have the time could you listen to Nicotine Toothpaste on my page and give me you opinion as it's still not finished thanks.

  • Her hat's awesome! Haha I want it! The song is awesome too! ^-^

  • she's incredible, gifted, and full of power

  • just once I'd like to have a horse give me a headdress!

  • She's a little pitchy live... but I love this song!!!!

  • shes adorable ! [:

  • Verry cute, good dinger too.

  • i too appreciate her dinging

  • Not only is she a good dinger, she is also a good singer.

It is a very nice ding though....

  • ^.^

  • leapoffaith20 - Don't you mean it is a very nice dong?

  • excellent

  • They seemed influenced in my opinion by Bjork, Cat power, and Radiohead. I might be wrong, lol but that's how it sounds to me.

  • and a little bit of PJ Harvey!

  • @ernestotorres1977 Hmm, interesting. To me they sound heavily influenced by 'The Cure' and 'Siouxsie & The Banshees'

  • @ernestotorres1977 i highly disagree

  • @ernestotorres1977 I actually see more Dead can Dance, Depeche Mode and nursery lullabies gone mystic.

  • Well just seen BRL backing Radiohead last night in Manchester and they were brilliant.

Such a beautifull sexy airy voice she has live, fantastic night.

  • yes, Quality songs she has,

RadioHead and BFL at Manchester, ,

    CANT WAIT!!! :) :) :)

  • Bat for Lashes is one person.

  • awesome. video needs to be deinterlaced tho

feel bad for the audience as well, the acoustics seem off on some high notes

  • They're supporting Radiohead next month and i'm going to see them. So people whos said they sound like female version, yeah!

  • the best music around today so good

  • This video/performance is so excellent. Looking forward immensely to seeing her open for Radiohead in Amsterdam.

  • Love Bat for Lashes! They were amazing at the Mercury Awards too!!

  • I am so increibly jealous of anyone who gets to see BFL open for Radiohead!

  • i really love this band

i need to get back into them

  • I'm seeing them in malahide, dublin,When i discovered they were supporting radiohead and looked 'em up here,i was a bit apprehensive at first, but they're growing on me the whole time,i think they'll do fine. Yes i can definately see bjork here, but bjork is great so it's all good!

  • this band is supporting radiohead this summer.

not sure if i'm looking forward to seeing them or not. it's interesting.

i can see what people mean about the Bjork influence. Is anyone else seeing Radiohead this summer? Do you think they Bat For Lashes will satisfy a crowd at a Radiohead show?

  • i have no idea, i doubt it to be honest, you sure its JUST them supporting?

  • they're the only ones that have been announced yet, but band often announce on then other a few weeks later. the Berlin show is being supported by Modeselektor. I'd kill to see Modeselektor & Radiohead in one day. if you don't know modeselektor, search them on here or myspace.

  • Well, I think bat for lashes are an incredible support. I'd be happy to see them perform as a headline act.

  • oh yeah, don't get me wrong, i'm completely happy that they're supporting Radiohead, i just don't know if they will appeal to a crowd at a RH gig

  • Hm.

Their style is different, but I think that's a good thing.

If I was a HUGE RH fan, I would rather see a band that is not a genre I would normally listen to than a band that is similar to RH, but worse, because I'd just moan 'Radiohead are better' all the time.

    Do you get me?

  • yeah, great point. that's how i'm looking at it. in a support band i'd rather hear something new and make my mind up about it, rather than listen to another band try to be radiohead.

  • that's what i was trying to say, haha.

    It'll be a great concert.

    :)

  • I don't think so, but eh.

    Each to their own.

  • They sound absolutely nothing like Radiohead...in anyway, theyre alright though alright opening band. Certainly not like Beck back in 2006! Sorry folks, but that was damn good

  • There's some bad grammar going on in these comments i tell you!

  • She blatently smokes a fat skunkweed

  • I love their song and their stage presence.

  • This is such a soulful and uplifting song to me... and they play great even if she does make a couple of mistakes. It's not easy to play repeatedly like that and sing so fantastically anyhow!

  • yeah your gonna loose uyour breath&stuff-but,listen 2 the lyrics AND BJORK KICKS ASS!!

  • There are no only influences from Bjork but also the Portishead, Stereolab, The Coctyeau Twins...

    Nice sound, greetings from Peru

  • the camera shuda caught the moment she does that hi note...

  • since she was born, in fact Natasha is soooo much pretty.

    SOOOO MUCH.

  • Truly a haunting performance.

  • yeah MICHALUS i saw bjork in Atlanta Oct.07 for the first time ,and i didnt just want to go there to be entertained you know?..i wanted to support Bjork..(ever since this Bob Dylan interview i saw -it was when he was young and always turned the interview around on the journalist) so i just kept screaming THANK YOU, BJORK! maybe you mean like Women of the Saggas(very strong women)

  • amazing live performance actualy

  • hän on söpö :)

  • woman's music is so soft

  • uummmmm. Huh?? what do you mean 'soft'?

  • woman is so diferent then a man and her music then his..soft wasn't the best word for that couse there is no word for that space between them...U feel it or not.

  • The music somebody who happens to be female makes is not inherently different to that someone who happens to be male would make. I think what you mean is that Bat for Lashes make moving, ethereal, sparse music. That's no reflection on the music that every other female musician makes

  • ..bjork as well and many others who really make a art not music for radio...anyway i fell that female see word in way we don't see and do things in her own way,it's not about wrong/right it's what i feel and U not.

  • go listen to "pluto" by bjork

  • (that was a reply to michalus)

    i don't like "pluto" much

but i don't think you'll be able to call bjork's music "soft" again :p

  • ones again ''soft'' was wrong word for me to say.

  • oh sorry, i must have missed that

i still disagree, but i guess it's just a matter of opinion

    peace

  • no problem

  • Try listening to Arch Enemy, My Ruin or Kittie for examples of females being nothing remotely resembing "soft". While I think I see what you're trying to say, at the same time I have to disagree and say it's not an issue of gender, just the individual, who just so happens to be female.

Well, I'm going to wrap this up since sleep deprivation is impacting my ability to comunicate coherantly, so just going to end by saying this song was haunting and beautiful.

  • that hat is rad

  • Getting a big Bjork vibe from her music... nice stuff

  • beautiful♥

  • cool head dress

  • totally INSPIRING my songwriter crazy artist in me... xxoo

  • i cant this out of my head.i think thats a good thing

  • same here. and its definitely a good thing:)

  • love ittt!!

  • does anybody know what is the meaning for bat for lashes, is it an expression or what? im from mexico and translated in to spanish doesn`t make any sense, it would be "bat para pestañas" or "bat para látigos".

  • i believe it's a poetic name therefore the meaning is intentionally ambiguous.

  • It is a poetic name that really doesn't mean anything clear in English and can not be translated to Spanish. Except, I personally think of the expression "bat your eyes", kind like an attactive seductress blinking her eyes with long lashes very fast like in the old cartoons.

  • Its just bat 'your' lashes but bat 'for' lashes, not that difficult

  • Apart from being a play on words of 'bat your eyelashes' there's nothing to it other than it's cool to be honest

  • Como abra y cerra los ojos.

  • 1:35 gives me chills.

  • I know, her voice is beautifully disturbing at that point.

  • this is awesome.

  • Love this song!! Beautiful voice, originality what more can you ask for.

  • i'm the same as nds87, i love metal and rock and all that kind of music, but i think this is amazing, GO BAT FOR LASHES!!!!

  • her voice is amazing live!!

  • bjork for lashes.

  • You're beyond absurd.

  • not only did you manage to make a comment completely unrelevant to this video, you also made it racist...

but then again i guess if your only seven years old u dont really care/know

  • i heard the single whats a girl to do and was hooked. Its funny because i dont listen to this type of music i like Tool and Metallica and NIN, but i think their artist integrity is similar, natasha seems to hold herself as an artist instead of a cookie cutter(like anything thats big on MTV today) i think thats what i like most and if she records in forests thats cool too.

  • Im the same, listen to heavier rock really but music like this is beginning to inspire me. I like Bjorks stuff alot and Bat for Lashes reminds me alot of that kind of genre of stuff. I see this band going far :D

  • I love the fact that she makes her music in very different ways than the regular ones, ones that you'd call "proper" I find it aweosme that she records songs in forests, that its not oevr rpoduced and that she sues all sorts of instruments. I think she has something very very unique and I relaly hope no producers or ppl who think they know better than the artists themselves what they should be about change her.

  • She's playing with her index fingers, not exactly proper piano technique.

  • I'm sorry, but your comment is completely unnecessary. Would it sound different if it was with any other fingers? Or with the toes? Yeah, I didn't think so.

  • yes, she is.

  • yeah sounds v reasonable that, if artist makes a couple errors live, just stick to cd... the same version over and over...

  • Yeah well you'd think you could play a simple tune like faultlessly every time, it doesn't take Rachmaninoff to play 2 or 3 notes in a row. I'm just saying that... she's rubbish live.

  • I'd like to see you play 2 or 3 notes in a row faultlessly at glastonbury. She's probably nervous as hell and the more you repeat something like that the more your odds of messing up increase. Try it.

  • Some people are just dumb.

  • I was there and so drunk I didn't care. In fact it wasn't until you lot were talking about it that I noticed at all.

  • Wow. Tres beau.

  • I did hear the similarity to Bjork. not in her tone or pronumciation, but in the melody lines. Natasha uses really creative intervals in her vocal lines, which Bjork does. That's the only similarity.

As for production, I thought Fur and Gold had a wonderful sound. It wasn't polished and that's the problem with too many bands today- a brilliant and unique sound is blanded down with pro-tools.

BFL is a national treasure. Unique, eclectic, beautiful and for once not trying to copy America. <3

  • I love bjork and your completely right

  • "Unique, eclectic, beautiful and for once not trying to copy America. <3"

very unique indeed---though that might be a native american headdress she has on ;) (jk)

    This song is beautiful--

I think her voice is incredible and as her song-writing gets better, she's going to come up with some really amazing stuff.

  • thats an amazingly beautiful song...

  • Hmmm i didnt know her but i liked it. However i think she has to get some piano lessons...

  • I'm a HUGE Bjork fan and I did not think bjork when I heard her singing. Maybe it is because I can tell the difference, it is not the same. Could she be influenced/inspired in style by Bjork? sure, why not! no problem! This is weird and dumb to me that there are comparisons being made between them. She will never have Bjork's odd accent and pronounciation that is so pronounced (hehe no pun intended).

  • BTW: read the liner notes--Bjork writes all her own music. Yes--she has good producers to help her with some of the music. Something Bat for Lashes is in desperate need of. They have beautiful music with NO POLISH. A good producer would warn them of their jeuvanile compositions like a casio harpsicord playing pedal point or repetitive and over dramatic sub-bass piano...

  • yes, the truth you do speak.. yet the (current) lack of production helps to make their sound that much more unique...hopefully some stellar production will happen on the next album ; )

  • I think Bat for Lashes is just doing exactly what they want with their music, creative expression without allowing criticism to affect what they do. music doesnt' need polish, it needs emotion. p.s. maybe if you weren't a dumbass you could spell "juvenile" right.

  • Don't be ignorant. You can dislike Bjork's style, but she helped invent the whole electronica genre. Without here, portishead, tricky, massive attack, etc. this band wouldn't exist. I love them to, but it's like saying you love Nirvana and Pearl Jam and Elvis and the Beatles blow. Even if you don't like the style of those bands, you have to acknowledge that they paved the way.

  • beautiful music right there.

  • the differance between bat fl and bjork? BJORK SUCKS.

  • i agree but not so bluntly lol. i just dont like bjork, bfl just has something she doesnt

  • her voice is amazing. She is so beutiful

  • I like bjork, but i LOVE bat for lashes...the emotion and ethereal qualities inherent within each song affects me much more than the majority of musik curently being produced by almost anyone else out there
