I am about to place my first geocache, and I want to buy an etrek garmin HC and want to know what features should I look for?  Do any of these work with a a Mac?

@barnabyl well, the etrex has everything you need, the only downside is if you don't buy the adventure pack like i did you dont get the topo maps. I have no etrex experience with a mac but it does use standard small usb but there should be a cord in the box that converts it to large usb (if there isn't you can buy that cord at any electronics store).

@oafaloaf yeah, they sell them online for garmin etrex models, i believe amazon? I wouldn't want to risk ruining my gps so I would probably use my cheaper older lowerance

I just bought one of these on eBay new for 108.00 is that a good deal? What is the adventure pack? Does it have a compass?

@mythic89 the adventure pack comes with topo maps and a case and i got my adventure pack for $165 at dicks sporting goods and 108.00 is a good deal

@HowToWithAndrew yes it can take a splash in a puddle or a drop in a pond or something like that. I think i read somewhere that it was 30 min max that it could be in the water.

So you got the Adventure Pack - may I ask where you got it and how much? I just got the standard package - GPS, USB cable, and Mapsource Trip and Waypoint manager - $120 in Best Buy. I later got the MetroGuide road maps for it.

Good news, I have reached over 1500 miles on the odometer on mine, and it's still working perfect, with no problems whatsoever! My eTrex Legend reached only 1200 before the joystick quit working.

I know they are great! I got the adventure pack at dick's sporting goods for about $150. Yeah mine works good still. I have done over 20 caches with it so far and it takes me pretty close to the cache. And $120 is cheap compared to walmart which is $138 online and like $150 in the store.

i got mine at amazon.com for 138.00 its around 120.00 but the shipping is 11.00 for the 2 day shipping. if you get the 3 to 5 day the sipping may be cheaper yet.
