@arcticmonkeysseven That is a synthesized bagpipe. Later, it uses a synthesized accordian (or a harmonichord). Pretty cool sounding, isn't it?

See, the bagpipe in the backgroudn is only playing 1 note. All bagpipes play a low D note, no matter what other notes are playing. They just pushed it up to an E for the sake of the song. This causes bagpipes to be an unworthy instrument: it will always play an out of key note. However Oasis synthesised the perfect note for this song.

Easily my favourite Oasis recording. Just something about it eschews that perfect melancholy of Oasis that burrows deep into me. Something sad but still... uplifting about Noel's music and its never more true than when he's singing with an acoustic guitar in his hand.

For me the guitar in this is miles ahead of the studio version. So much more dark and melancholy and plodding. It just captures me. Wish I could figure it out, but I think its actually 2 guitars in some parts. To get the same effect I have to contort my hands into some strange mutant chords.
