I am an atheist and I find that absolutely offensive. I personally would prefer to be surrounded by people smarter than myself, which can't happen if people are openly dishonest with themselves and others.

There may or may not have been a man named Jesus who preached. Jesus is only mentioned in the bible, with no outside corroborating evidence. The bible itself is a collection of disjointed writings put together arbitrarily, with no evidence they are what they say they are (i.e. the inspired word of a god).
The rest of history has corraborating evidence, so more reliable

@calebthebaleb The word 'blindly' implies he was 'blind' to the proof or evidence of a god. There is no evidence for god to be 'blind' to, therefore it's a non-sensical statement. You can have a blind faith in a god (in the positive) in the absence of evidence (which is religion), but you can't have blind faith in a negative concept such as atheism. It's like saying I have a 'blind faith' that there is no two headed crocodile living in my attic.

Think of it like a "not guilty" verdict. Voting "not guilty" does not necessarily mean you have faith that the defendant is innocent. It means that the prosecution failed to provide sufficient evidence to support its claim that the defendant is guilty. Theists have failed to provide sufficient evidence of their claims, so they are rejected. Rejecting a claim due to insufficient evidence is not faith.

There may or may not have been a man named Jesus who preached. Jesus is only mentioned in the bible, with no outside corroborating evidence. The bible itself is a collection of disjointed writings put together arbitrarily, with no evidence they are what they say they are (i.e. the inspired word of a god).
The rest of history has corraborating evidence, so more reliable

@DngerousRadical i'm sorry but i'm fed up of that argument from atheists. atheists do indeed defend a belief. they believe that god doesn't exist, this is irrefutable. they hold as truth the not existence of god. they do not defend the doubt in it's existence, they don't defend "is possible that god doesn't exist but its also possible that god does exist". An atheist refuse god existence. If you doubt God existence you're not an Atheist my friend, you most probably an Agnostic.

@tacv You feel this way because christianity is a major religion on earth, sadly, and the FACT that an atheist doesn't think there is any proof that a christian (or any other) god exist, does not need to be backed up by proof, or defend their "belief" (poor choice of word) any more than someone who "beliefs" Thor or the tooth fairy do not exist. Get over yourself, and your religion. It is all fairy tales. No one needs to defend or proof their disbelief in fairytales. Point blank.

Listen, Kirk, if you sought atheism just because you thought it was intellectual and wanted to look smart then it already tells that you didn't have your own opinion about it, and possibly about many other things. The subconscious consequence is pretty obvious - seek group of people who will provide their opinions for you.

"atheism"- the theory or belief that God does not exist.
The statement makes perfect sense... He blindly believed that there is no God.

@calebthebaleb The word 'blindly' implies he was 'blind' to the proof or evidence of a god. There is no evidence for god to be 'blind' to, therefore it's a non-sensical statement. You can have a blind faith in a god (in the positive) in the absence of evidence (which is religion), but you can't have blind faith in a negative concept such as atheism. It's like saying I have a 'blind faith' that there is no two headed crocodile living in my attic.

Think of it like a "not guilty" verdict. Voting "not guilty" does not necessarily mean you have faith that the defendant is innocent. It means that the prosecution failed to provide sufficient evidence to support its claim that the defendant is guilty. Theists have failed to provide sufficient evidence of their claims, so they are rejected. Rejecting a claim due to insufficient evidence is not faith.
