wrong, the bombing of london initially was a mistake. hitler had forbidden the bombing of residential areas, due to his desire for an alliance with great britain. and that initial bombing (1 single bomb) was on the outskirts of london but was used as a pretense for air marshall harris to take out his sadistic fantasies on the german people. hitler did refrain from retaliatory bombing for some time after the allies started bombing civilians in germany.

September 1939, Germany bombs 2 cities in Poland in a terror bombing campaign

May 1940, Rotterdam Netherlands bombed

May 1940, Dunkirk bombed

When the planes came for London, there was no doubt left that Germany had in mind for it, nothing less then it had in mind for Poland or the Netherlands.

War, is a mess.. but to deny it in it's entirety is to paint an inaccurate picture.

Again,if your not willing to look at the war as a whole then there is no further dialog. Germany started "terror bombing" with Poland. You can't remove that from the equation. Fog of war dictates that if the Germans had already done that,and they are now sending their planes to England,that they can expect the same. Just because "a single bomb" as you put it (hardly the case by the way) made it to London, doesn't alter in the least what the perceived intent was,and thus, the response.
