  • and y were the geelong players so jumpy???? hawthorn pressure the whole game watch the cats players every time they get the ball they were to worried about getting run down witch in turn made them very nervous it was hawthorns game plan going into the game pressure i cant beleave geelong supporters they are a suddo club you only hear them when there winning any othertime you wouldnt know they were there.

  • Hawks winning wasnt a 'fluke', but I dont respect their win either. This video IS significant. Most of those shots were sure fire goals, they were stupid mistakes that GEELONG made, nothing to do with how the Hawks played. And if you look at the statistics, the 2nd quarter was ALWAYS the qtr Geelong put away teams in 08. Almost all these opportunities happened in the second qtr, it cost them the game.

Yep, Hawks won. But they won because Geelong fucked up. Cats lost this GF themselves.

  • If you take out the rushed behinds they only kicked four more points than Hawthorn! What a joke, Hawks win their two lead-in finals by close to or more than 10 goals and then beat the Cats by 5 goals in a GF and some idiots thinks its a fluke? What else could they have done to be more deserving!

  • @DJSidewinder take away the rushed behinds we would of had 2 more scoring shots. =P Go Hawks 2012

  • I loath the way people say Geelong lost the game or that we fluked a premiership. That's absolute crap made up by bitter Geelong supporters. A seemingly little-known fact of the AFL is that the best team on Grand Final Day is crowned Premiers. I'd be even so rash to say that Hawthorn were not just the best team on that day, but the whole finals series. Seriously, give us the credit we deserve.

  • @GeorgeHasAProfile ill admit that we were too cocky & that we played terrible

& hawthorn were definitly better then geelong in this grand final & you had a better finals then us,

not only do you deserve credit but respect as well

    well done

  • This is a video about Geelong kicking some behinds. Hawthorn kicked some behinds in that game too. Buddy only kicked two goals and was mostly quiet on the day. Mitchell was largely quiet and we lost Young and Croad to injury. There are three phases to the AFL season; getting into the finals, getting into the grand final, winning the grand final. Hawthorn was successful in achieving all three and deserved the flag.

  • @Dilkingtonism

you are correct (it means a lot cause im a massive cats supporter)

winning a premiership is not for those who "deserve" it more,

its for those who can push through and come out the better team at the end of the day.

  • @aaai30

You're bigger than most Cats fans (or any team's fans for that matter)! No one could contest how good that Cats have been over the last few years or in 2008. Flags are what they are. It only hurts when Collingwood win them!

    ;-)

  • @Dilkingtonism excuse me? haha lol

  • Mooney = most over rated hack playing at present. oh and learn how to kick straight haha, Hawks to good, simple.

  • Shit we should of belted hawthorn with all those opportunities.

  • @mjthekingofmusic52 yeh should of but didn't :)

  • how the fuck did mooney miss 1:10?

  • @MrBen51309 cause he is a useless hack!

  • Very True. It was the Cats major errors that cost them the game, that and the 11 or 12 rushed behinds Hawthorn kept doing.

  • @MrRealityCheck88 the hawks putting the cats in 2 monds pretty much all day was what won the game for us, 11.23 is the most misleading scoreline ever, half of them we gifted to them.

  • 1:06 greatest moment of my life

  • glad hawks won a grand final (even though I'm a carlton and geelong supporter) because hawks won't be in the grand final this year. I think saints or geelong will get the flag this year.

  • I'm a Cats fan and disagree that Geelongs kicking lost us the game, yes would have been nice for half those to go in and put more pressure on Hawthorn in the second half but the fact is it was Geelong stupidity that lost it. Croad went out and Mooney stayed around the goal square and the ball was kicked long to him. Luke Hodge realised this and just sat himself perfectly and cats kept kicking it there. Therefore a deservnt win to Hawthorn and deservent Norm Smith to Luke Hodge. We were outplayed

  • Geelong certainly did kick themselves out of it, should have been at least 5 goals up at half time after dominating the first half! Nearly gave the game to Hawthorn in Round 1 with terrible kicking but were still too good

  • Haha you won by 8 points and Hawks had a third of the team out, then you only beat Richmond by 20 points at home, looks like the cats currents list has already peaked (BEFORE the 2008 GF)

  • Geelong has had just as many injuries as Hawthorn yet still haven't lost a game, because they have depth in their list. 11-0 is not a bad start to the season for a team that "peaked" before last years grand final.

  • Cats looking shaky, yes i think their best was 07 and 08 (pre 08 grandfinal of course).

  • Certainly isn't as embarrassing as missing the finals the year after winning the flag.

  • Hey a flag is a flag ..... but winngin 21/22 then losing the GF isn't a flag. :-)

  • Truer words have never been spoken. However unlike Hawthorn, Geelong are settings themselves up for another shot at a flag.

  • Well lets hope they make the most of it as their list is more aged than Hawthorns and while they have some good young players, they will be retiring a few in the next couple of years too while Hawthorns current list is about the youngest in the comp, they can't have worse luck with injuries than in 2009 ...

  • @babyduck1 certainly isn't as embarrassing as losing to freo

  • @Hughesyhfc Getting belted by Collingwood ain't too flash either.

  • @babyduck1 hahahahaa OWNED.

  • voss, akermanis, black and lappin were the fab 4 judd cousins kerr fab 3 ablett bartel ling selwood corey fab 5

  • Yea what about croad hodge mithchell lewis franklin roughead how about that for a spine

  • A spine is 5 players. You named 6. What are you on?

  • Chokers!

  • i love reading this stuff, wheresgolberg i seriously hope you are no older then 10 otherwise you are one of the dumbest people going around.....

  • I'd say nine of those goals were from either tough angles, too far out, or under fierce press where they were forced to blaze away at goal and kick in hope - they could be put down to Hawks defence. Only 5 of them were unforced misses, and lets not forget Hawks kicked 7 behinds themselves. Sorry Cats, nice try.

  • Clear as day, Geelong kicked themselves out of a premiership. Hawthorn just had to be on the ground.

  • How shite must Geelong be then. Hawks kicked themselves INTO a premiership :-)

  • one premiership is NOT a dynasty.

Geelong were dominant in 2007 because the league was weak, port played in the gf shows how weak the league was, it was a transition yr from syd/wc to now which is the Hawthorn era.

  • rofl geelong redneck scrubbers

  • HAHAHA! I love the bitterness and jealousy... simple fact. Good players kick straight, Geelong wasted their chances, Hawthorn took their chances.

  • Geelong are great at coming second, almost as good as Collingwood. Yes Geelong are second best at coming second!!

  • Funny. LOL

  • whenever i watch a premiership win it always makes me so envious and depressed, i want that just ONCE!!

  • Hey wheresgolberg, what game have you been watching, football is about 4 quarters not 1 or 2, you only out played us in the second quarter, the game was evenly poised after the first quarter, you out played us in the second, the game was fairly even until the last 10 mins of the 3rd (PREMIERSHIP QUARTER) then we put you to the sword. if you actually thought that you dominated on the day and we won due to your poor kicking then you need to watch again.

  • Me thinks wheresgolberg can't read - I wasn't suggesting buddy could have had four goals - i am stating a fact that he ACTUALLY had a hand in 4 goals - two he kicked and two he helped set up - and an upset is usually the term used to describe the result when the team expected to win does not - but if hawks were shit and won then it implies gellong were even more shit on the day - just accept you lost - i guarantee you'll feel less miserable

  • cameron mooney and brad ottens suk so bad at kicking goal my grandma could do better

  • Dw boys SEN is taking all calls on why hawthorn is the GF Champions of 2008. FUCKING WANKERS!

  • at the end of the day Hawthorn 2008 AFL Premiers.. DATS ALL THE COUNTS!!!!

they were better on the day and the reason we were missing all the goals is beacause of hawthorn putting so much presure on our fowards.. we were out run all day in every part of the ground...

  • Here I was thinking bad kicking is bad football, hmmm.

  • well said

  • Yes I know hawthorn won I can expect that. I just don't like that hawks fans actually think they played better on the day. You can be shit and still win on the day, its called an upset. It makes for an interesting season next year.Oh and fishpig using your arguement against you buddy didnt kick 4 goals he only kicked 2, just like geelong could of kicked 32 goals.

  • damn right

  • why 32 goals??? cause hawthorn rushed 11 behinds are you saying that was poor kicking by geelong, dipshit then the hawks should have kicked 25 goals, and you take out the rushed then geelong 21 goals in a perfect world. last time i checked that adds up to a hawk victory ;)

  • Hawks were too good. Geelong are a good team but Hawks are better. And you are right, the hawks could have played alot better. Oh well, we will play better next year and win by more....

  • Wheresgolberg-watch one more time - hardly miracle goals-Hawks just took their chances - actually buddy kicked 2 goals and they were prob worth about 4 given the state of the game-scarlett did nothing else except trail buddy around so buddy hardly got toweled-he set up Dew's 2nd goal and would've had 4 except williams marked on the goal line-so had a hand in 4 goals-to say Geelong did nothing wrong except kick goals is just wrong - geelong executed poorly frequently all day

  • And the backline... Matty Scarlett did a good job, but where was the support?

Hawthorn managed to play their footy better on the day. That's why the Hawks won. Cry as much as you want, call the Hawks cheats/hacks or nitpit the game or the entire season. Makes no difference.

    Nothing changes the result.

    Hawks beat Geelong.

  • Wow actually watch the game again. Geelong did everything perfect except kick goals, Hawthorn had 11 rush behinds cause the fowards put to much pressue on there defence and they were kicking some miricle goals in there forward line and scarlett toweled buddy all day. Geelong lost it for themselves and will be back next year. But good on crawf for finally winning one.

  • 'Geelong did everything perfect except kick goals'.

Nice quote. Funny part there is, I thought the team that kicks the higher score wins the game?

If Geelong couldn't capitalise on their inside 50's (yes, they had a lot, hence the rushed behinds) then what kind of forward line do they have?

It was not only that part of the ground that let them down, but where was their midfield? Let's take Ablett and Bartel out of the equation... who else in their team stepped up to the plate?

  • your right xcptor

  • our forwards lost us the game! ..cant wait till round one :)

  • hawthorn won the game doesnt make them the best team you won on the day thats it congratulations yous have a great list, and will it will be a good era for the cats and the hawks for the next few years dont get to carried away about winning 2009 talk about it after the final. we will want it more then ever now :)

  • good one.....................ha..ha..ha

  • i agree except hawthorn is the best now, doesnt matter how many games you win during a season you must win the grand final to be the champs.

i'm sensing we migh tsee another hawks & bombers from 83 - 85 yhappen with hawks and cats for another 2 years, cant see any other team comming close to the hawks & cats.

  • cam mooney at halftime, you would think he did that on purpose. he aint that bad is he?

  • Someone is tasting sour grapes I think

  • Hahahah Geelong def Geelong lololololol

  • Cityoflight should realise missing sitters dirupts flow no less than nailing tough shots - Hawks won that GF and to say otherwise is bad sportmanship. Ranindaya says Geelong better on day - if you were better you would have won.Watch highlights - 1st Q goals to Bateman/brown/williams - hawks better under pressure - 2nd Q watch rioli's goal and young on the run from 55m 3rd q watch stewey dew and hodge from 50m. Hawks WON the GF by playing better & more accurate footy-awesome in defense as well

  • More like Hawthorn PWNS Geelong

  • can i just say, i am a geelong fan, and i think we were the better team on the day but, i think hawks did a good and the cats should have won if they were kicking straight. But congrats to the hawks on playing a great game, i think hawks might go back to back, but i believe that geelong will come out strong in 2009

  • geelong kicked 5 goals from free kicks. even the umpires tried to give them the final.

  • Bad kicking is bad football. Hawthorn were constantly bagged throughout the year for poor kicking and look what happens in the GF!!

Hawthorn were the better team on the day and they deserved it. Well done Hawks!!

  • geelong won 15 in row in 2007 then lost then won the finals and the first 8 rounds in 2008 which was in a row then lost then won round 10 to the prelim final which was 16 in a row and they hav never got past that so they lost that grand final haha they should of lost to saints and then had another chance so they werent up them selfs and hawks are better anyway

  • Dont you mean Hawks def Geelong

    Not geelong def geelong

    LOL LMAO

  • No, I think he actually did mean Geelong df Geelong......didnt u see the video.....it was all the footage of Geelong kicking goals but missing them badly.....Geelong had themselves to blame for losing......not hawthorn

  • Rubbish. Western bulldogs fans could say the same -if they had kicked straight in the 3rd quarter Geelong wouldn't have even made the grand final, and don't get the dogs fans started on how Brad Johnson didn't get a free at a crucial stage of the game. Geelong are a great team but were beaten on the day.

  • Rubbish?? so I suppose that goal that Brad Ottens missed was Hawthorns fault then.....it is everyone else fault but we cant criticise Geelong.....

  • Geelong missed some sitters, but a lot were shots under pressure/snaps/from the boundary/soccered. Plus, sometimes people just miss. Hard to believe, but its true. Its called pressure. Geelong knew they were in a battle and were under pressure. Game was there to be won at half time, despite the "misses" in the 2nd Qr. Watch the 3rd qr where Hawks played awesome football. When it counted the Hawks didnt miss - ala Stewey Dew. Give Geelong 24 points for the "sitters", and they still lose.

  • Hawthorn had more shots at goal than Geelong. Geelong ended up with more behinds because the Hawks rushed 11 of them. Hawthorn kicked 18 goals and 7 behinds, Geelong kicked 11 goals and 12 behinds, with 11 rushed behinds.

  • You forget the Hawks were down 2 of their best players from just after half time and stastistics prove Geelong got the better of the umpiring decisions. Geelong were inaccurate, but the real reason they lost was they faded after half time just as they had in the home and away game and had no flexibility to change their game plan when their forward line didn't function. Hawthorn were superb. Both teams are to be congratulated on their conduct post the Grand Final. The cats will bounce back.

  • Geelong had tickets on themselves and played like it - they watched Hawthorn give them a lesson in putting their body on the line!

  • ded right. harder an faster. simple

  • hawks def geelong

  • Gellong choked when it really matters...again.

Then Ablett choked on his own tears.

Then his grandfather choked on his mashed peas.

Choking is a great Geelong tradition.

  • At least we made the Grand final.

We've achieved more in the last 10 years than collingwood and StKilda, who everyone talks up year after year

  • We are Geelong the greatest team of all. Except at GRAND FINAL time.

  • You can't factor in sitters and still declare the game otherwise the same. A single missed goal can completely change the flow of the game, and to think that it otherwise would have been the same is wrong, I'm sorry.

I don't think Hawks deserved to win, tbh, but I'm happy for them and looking forward to 2009. GO CATS!

  • Sooky sooky la la Cats!! Geelong kicked points and Hawthorn kicked goals therefore Hawthorn were superior and Hawthorn won.

  • ur all stupid geelong were disgraceful and lst the game on their own hawthorn just punished them and took their chances and gazza shoulve won the norm smith not hodge cats will bounce back ad win nxt yr by alot

  • Cry, cry, cry Geelong fans. How come the Cats choked this game and not during the year? Why were they less composed this year when they had already won in 07? Geelong choked alright, but only because they couldn't handle the pressure! And Gary Ablett's midfield efforts bore few fruits in the forward line, where Hodgey cleaned up with contested marks and spoils.

Norm Smith is for players that help win the GF, and that would be Hodge.

  • geelong surely defeated geelong cameron stokes is a shit fuck

  • on the day the hawks were better..and thats all that matters

that is non bias as i cant stand the hawks

i do think geelong will win the flag next year though.

or the mighty roos..but i doubt that

  • Hodgey killed it he deserved to win the norm smith

  • Geelong only kicked 11.12 in the GF, the rest were rushed. In Geelongs last 2 games they kicked 12.11 and 17.17. Pretty much goals=behinds so the GF was consistent. Plus look how many shots on goal in that video were from the boundary. The other stat to look at is inside 50s/marks inside 50. Geelong 62/13, Hawthorn 43/11. Hawks defense was awesome and running bounces Hawks 38 Geelong 8. Hawks won due to defensive pressure, hardness at the footy and willingness to run!

  • go the hawkas!!!

  • LOL GEELONG SCRUBBER.

  • geelong kicked 5 goals from free kicks. the hawks kicked 1. umpires gave them all the chances they needed. hawthorn were faster an stronger. get over it

  • The handbags are out. I am sick of clowns like you not giving the Hawks credit. They are a tough unrelenting football team and a worthy winner. Give credit where it is due. The fact you only played us once in 44 games is testament that the boogey man was going to get you.

  • geelong kicking for goal was like a whale trying to knit.

  • geelong def geelong because they couldn't kick a goal to save their lives... or a grand final. that said, I am sick of hearing people say geelong lost it and hawthorn didn't win it. Hawthorn won it. They were better on the day, they took the most of their chances and players like Clinton Young, Chance Bateman, Sam Mitchell, Campbell Brown and Cyril Rioli kicked brilliant goals that won the game.

And Cameron Moonee is a disgraceful excuse for a forward, weak as piss when it counts the smart ass

  • well said

  • one question

    how did Geelong defeat Geelong?

  • Hey Pangoez, bad luck about your team not being able to win the one important one of the year despite the opposition being two men down on a hot day... what a shame for you. Enjoy the off season! Let's hope the handbaggers don't make you wait another 50 years to get the next flag!

  • have a look at where most of those shots were taken. not many in the corridor, alot wide on the boundary, and that was due to hawthorns defence and midfield.

  • That was an incredible game neither side was better then the other, both sides were as good as each other and it was just a matter of who could get on top when it mattered most. That is not the end of Geelong that is for sure they will bounce back in 2009. I am an Essendon supporter I was going for hawthorn on the day Twas awesome.

  • There is a reason why we've won 10 flags in 50 years and your mob have won 2. No heart no glory.

    GO HAWKS!

  • go hawks

  • Dear mooney... yip yip yip away! Sucked in! Thankyou Hawthorn!

  • Whether is by ur own error or not, facts are you lost...hawthorn beat you. be a man and accept you were beaten by a better side...typical of geelong fans. wont pay credit when credits due!

  • Im a Geelong fan but congratulations to Hawthorn you fully deserve the premiership. If we had to get beaten im glad it was by them.

Shane Crawford is a star and i hope he plays on next year

  • some how i think hawthorn were just the better team they played better they had 2 players that couldnt come back on if your gona win a game youv gota make the most of your oppertunities they didnt. n hawks did so SHIR YEAHHH GO THE HAWKERSSSSSS

  • The Hawks did put on pressure but I am referring to behinds like Cameron Mooney's set shots as well as Ottens' behind. In all three of these behinds, there was absolutely NO pressure, so don't give me the lame and tired old "Geelong missed because of Hawthorn's pressure". Enjoy it anyway, luck only comes once.

  • OK, 3 missed goals. Off the top of my head I know Browny missed a sitter from 5m out after the cats 19th player (in white) disallowed the first one he kicked through the big sticks. 3 or 4 shots on goal were missed by the cats that they should have kicked......but that didnt cost them the game. How about the defensive pressure of the norm smith medalist having some influence or the hawks run off half back? Oh....how do those grapes taste? Pretty sour by the sound of it! GO THE HAWKAS!!

  • the umps wore red just to clarify

  • congrats to the hawks, very well played.. a few people in the media said geelong played well and the hawks were lucky...bullshite, hawks played brilliantly and deserve the cup.

  • pangoez bad kicking=bad footy mate! the hawks won coz the cats were not used to being under pressure from a quality side as well as down for most of the game. Yous kept on jabbin and jabbin but we ended up delivering the knock out punch!!! BOOM!!! good luck next year pal but 4 now we are the champions HAWTHORN HAWKS FOOTBALL CLUB 2008

  • norm smith should have been scot mclaren.

plenty of clearances for geelong, plenty of goal assists, 5 goals, a few rebound from 50's and a shut down job on franklin.

what about that penis geelong supporter who got premiers 08 tattooed on his arm on the news. hahaha

hawks were deseverd winners. most other years a 17-5 record would have had them on top

  • your joking right hodge played with sore ribs keeped the back line together when it was down and out numbered, and it wasn't even his statics it was his on ball effort stopping geelong when ever he was close

  • mate it was a joke because of all the bad free kicks he paid to Geelong.

    "Thats What I'm Talking About!!!!"

  • 2 stats that hodge led for the game were contested possessions (11) and 1%s(8). He was also 2nd in contested marks with 3. Cameron Mooney, who cats fans will have you believe was terrible, had the most contested marks to go with his miraculous goal from the boundary early in the match.

  • 42 out of 44, but 1 win and 1 loss against the Hawks over the last two years. I believe this gives the Hawks the edge at the moment.

Anyone that didn't give the Hawks a chance is pretty stupid and listens to too much hype. Go Hawks, you were awesome.....best day in 20 years! bad luck Geelong, I'm sure there will be some good battles over the next year or two.

  • Spot on. I had as as underdogs going into the GF but $3.30 underdogs?!?! No way!! We only lost by 11 points earlier in the year when things went the cats way in the final term. Vic footy is looking good over the next few years with the blues and tigers undoubtedly on the improve!

  • Isn't it funny that the guys that made the difference for the hawks was Dew, Young in the first half and Crawford. Know one gave them the repect as being big outs in round 17. The Geelong boys didn't give them any respect either and got slammed for it. The Hawks have beaten Geelong 3 out of the last four meetings. They practically ended their season in 06. Thrashed them twice in 05 and beat them last year. We match up on them really well.

  • Youngy is a champ. When he was out during the year and I said it was big hit for us, people almost laughed at me. He had 8 running bounces in the first half alone.......that is the same as the entire cats team had for the whole match!! "We are a happy team at Hawthorn!!"

  • These misses were counteracted by AT LEAST four goals scored by the Cats as direct result from contentious umpiring decisions. And the Hawks pressure was forced the usually clinical Cats to make mistakes.

To Geelong supporters; you can say what you want to, but you were clearly beaten by a better team that was hungrier for the ball - and for the win - on the day

  • just face it all you geelong supporters .. You were beaten by a better team on the day... Stop sooking over it haha

  • u geelong had 10 rushed behinds so use really kicked 13 behinds and had 24 scoring shots to hawthorns 25 so shut the fuk up use lost the game coz hawthorns a beter than geelong.

  • i couldnt agree more with the headline for the videeo.

poor poor performance by the forward line.

ohh well hopefully that hasnt beeting us for the worst and we continue to go good next year.

  • The umpiring was farcical wasnt it!! There were some calls I disagreed with but accepted, however others were just plain ridiculous and so costly. That free to Ablett in the middle of the ground that they paid downfield for no apparent reason is an example. Either way, HAWKS PREMIERS 2008!! GO THE MIGHTY HAWKS!!

  • The only reason the match wasn't over by halftime was because the umpires kept the cats in the game. It had nothing to do with poor finishing. I have never witnessed such blatant bias by officialdom in the game ever. IT was farcical.

The Hawks were awesome. What a pathetic attempt to de-value their achievement by saying they only won cause Geelong couldn't kick straight.

Tell me? How are those grapes, are they particularly sour?

  • I totally agree, good call mate, go hawks

  • Also take into account the disgraceful pro Geelong umpireing in the 1st half as per usual. It was a joke. ;)

  • What Pangoez fails to acknowledge was Hawthorn's pressure, which was far more intense then Geelong's. He also fails to take into account Hawthorn rushed 11 of those behinds, so the shots at goal were quite even. Hawthorn forced Geelong wide and applied the heat to the Geelong forward line. Speaking of MASSIVE, what a MASSIVE CHOKE!

    GO HAWKS!

  • your a joke mate

  • Mooneys effort was the best one...Karma you arrogant idiots

  • Many of the shots taken we from severe angles or from a fair distance from the goal, which shows that hawthorns defensive structure gave geelong nearly unkickable shots that any team would have struggled to have kicked, not to mention all the rushed behinds, so overall hawthorn played the smarter footy and deservedly won the match.

  • 1 star nice keep up the work

  • I think he means how Geelong can't kick straight. Seeing as 11 points were rushed it's not all that bad. Yes they should have got some but there are points scored every game. Geelong were beaten by a team who was more composed, used the ball effectively in front of goal and wanted it more.

  • couldn't agree more mate...Hawthorn were clearly the better team, esp. in the second half, and clearly a deserved winner...GO HAWKS !

  • little insight?

They were beaten by a far superior, tougher outfit that play TEAM football (like Franklin did), unlike Geelong (Hello Mr Ablett).
