In the USSR there was free universal health care system and free education at all levels. How many countries have that now? Moreover, the idea of communism is genuinely humanistic and appealing. There were also free medical services. I could go to any part of the former SU and if something bad happened to me, I would get medical assistance immediately and pay nothing for that. Also, want to mention that quality of medical services in the Soviet Union was way much better than it is in today's America. For example: student's in the universities wanted to be a surgeon or dentist not because of possibility to earn big money (like in America), but because they truly loved their occupation.
If you think about the soviet people that way that they're stupid, or poor, or smell bad - I'm telling you that that is wrong thinking. We had the best economy in the world, the most powerful army in the world, and the best education in the world.

I find the Soviet anthem to be a very BEAUTIFUL and POWERFUL hymn to the ideal and faith of the working class. I will also add that almost all nations have or will try to re-wright something in their history.

I frequently work more than 12 hours a day and for a farmer, the normal day is a brute 16 hour day with low pay and horrid working conditions and no guarantee of a payoff (being able to eat for the winter).

Communism in theory is better than capitalism when you look at the bigger picture. However, no human race can successfully adapt the theories to action over a sustained period of time because of the traits of humans; greed, corruption, etc. That's why Communism will always fail; look at the only countries that are truly communists now like North Korea and Cuba and their shitty economies and standard of living compared to the western Capitalist societies.
