I think that the writer of the Manga originally had a different design for Pein, but later decided to give him the looks he has now. You can see his hair is different to.

all the Akatsuki members can be figured out by their eyes. They all have their own kind of eye's. Kisame has his white eyes, Itachi his Sharinghan, Pein the Rinnegan, Zetsu with his odd looking eye's. And SO on.

i think another thing that makes pain so classy is that he's a surprisingly caring leader. he isn't stuck up and his techniques, though extremely complex, are not overtly over the top. i mean the part were he opts to go stop the intruders - instead of just ordering one of the other guys to do it - is a sign of what a down to earth guy he really is. off the topic though, it would be nice to see another team from a village besides konoha persuing the akatsuki. wachathink?????

wow in order to be part of this orginization you really have to know your stuff, watch the different levels of concentration between the members, those that are experienced and those that are less so, it's subtle but the way its portrayed is very classy. see how itachi has also used his eyes to level all their chakra, it's very impressive. i have to say, its the little things that make akatsuki such a classy bunch of ninjaz, welldone to the writers for thinking up such a great antagonistic group
